Principal’s Report Welcome back to Term 4! It is hard to believe we are near the end of the year already.

LMBR Update

LMBR stands for Learning Management and Business Reform. The implementation of LMBR is State wide. Our office staff, in particular Mrs Sly and Mrs Hanman, have been extremely busy undertaking training in the implementation of this complex change in our financial management.

The new system requires all events to have a strict cut-off payment date. To avoid disappointment, it is crucial that correct payment is made on time. Late payments can no longer be accepted. Payments need to be placed in a special envelope and ‘posted’ into our frog deposit box. Parents and caregivers are urged to use the Parent Online Payment system (POP) to pay money to the school. If you have any doubt at all please speak to someone in the office. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we enter this new world of finance.

Kindergarten 2017 Building Blocks Program

Thank you to Miss Niblett for organising our Kindergarten transition to school pro-gram. So far, the children have visited classrooms, completed craft activities and toured the school. Our next two play sessions will provide a great opportunity for the children to meet new friends and become familiar with our school environment. Parent and carers will have the opportunity to learn about Literacy and Numeracy in Kindergarten. If you have a child turning 5 before 31 July 2017 and haven’t already enrolled, please come to the office for an enrolment form.

Grandparents Day

Thank you to Mrs Zammit and her committee for a fantastic Grandparents Day. It was wonderful to see so many proud grandparents and the special bonds that they have with their grandchildren!

P&C Working Bee

The gardens look so spick and span after the working bee last weekend. I would like to thank Mr & Mrs Fitzjohn, Poppi and Charlie, Mrs Norman and her partner Kel, Mrs Nobilo and Mrs Hammou for giving up their time to improve the school environment. We greatly appreciate your support. We intend to lay more tiles over the coming weeks. Hopefully, next time, more parents will be able to spare an hour to assist.

Bingo Family Night

Congratulations to our P&C for organising a fun family night out. This was an extremely successful community event with many families leaving with winning smiles. Mrs Romeiro was amazing , calling numbers and teaching us all how to play bingo. A huge thank you to Mrs Kerbage, Ms Hzaife, Mrs Devi, Mr Ramamoorthy, Mrs Stierli and Mrs Nolan for all your hard work and efforts.

Gymnastics and Social Skills Program

By Sophie and Kayla

Students from K-6 have been attending a gymnastics and social skills program which occurs every Thursday for 10 weeks. We wanted to find out the importance of this program for students at our school. We have interviewed Mrs Nobilo to give us information about the program.

1.What is the point of the gymnastics and social skills program?

The point is to improve the fitness levels of students and to develop their self-confidence and social skills.

2.What are some of the activities the students are doing?

In K-2, they have played Connect 4 and worked together to complete other tasks for social skills and 3-6 students have been jumping off a trampoline and learning how to fall safely. Every activity is fun as well as useful!

3.How does it help the students improve their fitness skills? It helps them improve their skills because they are shown the correct way to do it and it is for 10 weeks. That way students have opportunities to practise the skill without injuring themselves.

4.Who are the visitors who teach the students?

Sport in Schools Australia (SISA) are the people who run this fantastic program.

The students enjoy participating and interacting with the leaders that facilitate this

program.

Yr 6 Teacher Interviews By Luke B.

The teachers in Year 6 are working hard getting their classes ready for high school. We asked the teachers a couple of questions. Here are their responses:

Q1. What is your favourite part about teaching?

Miss Birkett – Seeing the growth of students throughout the year. I love seeing when students get a concept they have struggled with.

Mr Callipari – Expanding students’ knowledge and understanding.

Miss Meggitt – Seeing the kids ‘get it’. I love it when students finally understand a new concept. It’s so exciting for me! ;)

Q2. What is a trick you use to get the students attention?

Miss Birkett – I say ‘Hocus Pocus’ then they say ‘time to focus’.

Mr Callipari – Tricks? I don’t need no tricks! LOL

Miss Meggitt - Lots of different things. But I like to be quiet, or I often whisper or just

give them a ‘look!’ LL

Q3. What is the most interesting topic you have taught in Year 6?

Miss Birkett – I really like teaching topics that I can get my teeth into and that students will like. This year it was China.

Mr Callipari – Binomial Theorem (Yr. 6 Extension Maths)

Miss Meggitt – I have loved teaching Year 6. We had some fascinating discussions about Refugees but everything about mathematics is the best.

Q4. If you were stuck on an island, what 3 objects and 1 celebrity would you bring with you and why?

Miss Birkett – Sunscreen – because I burn easily, water – because you need fresh water, Swiss pocket knife – because it has lots of tools inside and my celebrity – Alex O’loughlin as Steve McGarrett because he knows how to survive and protect us.

Mr Callipari – iPhone, MacBook with Wi-Fi and rechargeable batteries to communi-cate with the world. A Genie in a bottle for all problems solved. No Celebrities needed.

Miss Meggitt – Torch – I hate the dark, Kindle - I love to read, mum – she is

awesome and my celebrity, Pink – she is the best singer ever!

Debating Competition

To debate, means to argue an opinion of a topic with two sides – negative and

affirmative. We decided to interview the debating team to find out more about de-

bating. We interviewed Marina, Hailey, Riyanka, Charlie, Nahvroy, Natasha and

Phoenix.

Q1. Has debating improved your speaking and skills?

Riyanka: Yes, because I have been speaking in front of a crowd for the past couple of years.

Phoenix: Yes it does because I receive feedback to help me get better.

Zara: Yes, because you get to feel more comfortable with a bigger audience.

Natasha: Yes, I can speak more confidently in front of large groups. I enjoy debating points and learning how to be persuasive.

Q2. Do you enjoy debating and competing with other schools?

Charlie: Of course I do! Because it is fun and it gives you nerves.

Hailey: Yes because you get to interact with other students and because I also like speeches.

Luke: Yes, because while you write your speeches you learn things.

Q3. Do you like debating? Why?

Marina: I like debating because I can express myself and it gives me confidence.

Nahvroy: I think debating is fun because I get to cooperate with other members in

my team.

Grandparents Day

Bossley Park Public School participated in Grandparents day on Monday 31st

October 2016. Grandparents of students were welcomed to our school to participate in fun activities.

In the morning, the performing arts children wowed the Grandparents with their amazing performances which included the 3-6 Skippervators, choir, Stomp Group, K-2 Dance Group, Year 5 dance and the Assyrian Dance Group.

After, all the classrooms were open for the grandparents to participate in class activities. Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students were creating craft artwork, Stage 2 students were reading with their grandparents and Stage 3 students were interviewing grandparents about their life experiences.

Afterwards, the grandparents replanted the garden wall outside the canteen with their grandchildren, creating a beautiful new flower wall. During recess, the grandparents had morning tea with teachers, students and the SRC representatives.

It was a day full of great performances, laughs and special bonds. The students and grandparents had a great day and enjoyed every moment.

Ms Byrne - I help, assist and deliver. In class I support students as well as teach

classes while other teachers work around the school.

Mrs Norman - I love helping students and teachers in the classroom because I know

they appreciate it and they know it.

Ms Moro - I like helping students in the classroom because I get to see what’s

Mrs Zammit - I especially enjoy working with students who need extra support. I find

my work challenging and wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.

Support teacher interviews

Q3 If you had one million dollars, how would you use it?

Mrs Norman - If I had a million dollars, I would get scholarships for students to

learn art and travel around so they can look at museums and art galleries.

Ms Moro - I would rent a house in Italy until the money ran out. I would also buy a

gelato stall.

Mrs Zammit - Give it to my children so that they can purchase a house in 10 years

time. I’m pretty sure most houses will cost a million dollars by then!

Mrs Al Taie - I would buy an Ice Cream shop because I love ice cream. Then I

would buy a house near the ice cream shop so that I have a place to rest after I

have eaten a lot of ice cream.

Mrs Asencio - I would use it to make people around me happy, and that includes

my wonderful students. Gracias!

Ms Byrne - Pay off my mortgage, travel with my beautiful children to Disneyland

and have a party for all my special friends.
