From the Superintendent Page 2

From the Superintendent: May has finally arrived! After this winter, it never

felt like we would see green grass and experience

the warmer weather that spring brings! This news-

letter is our final one for the 2018-2019 school year.

We all seem to say it quite frequently, “Where does

the time go?” I would first like to congratulate the

class of 2019. We wish you nothing but the best on

your future endeavors. We hope everyone will

come out and recognize our graduating seniors on

Friday, May 24, 2019 starting at 7:00 p.m.

With the end of the school year come changes

in our district staffing. I would to thank Mrs. Allison

Donaldson for her two years of service in our ele-

mentary and junior/senior high school instrumental

music program. We would also like to thank Ms.

Meghan Nortman for her time in the district as a

3rd grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary. She

served in that role for 3 years. We would like to

thank Allison and Meghan and wish them nothing

but the best on their next endeavor!

We are happy to report that as of this time we

have filled both of these vacancies for the 2019-

2020 school year. At this time we have filled the

3rd Grade teaching position at Lincoln Elementary

as well as the District Instrumental Music Teacher.

We are excited to welcome Ms. Melissa Manikow-

ski to the 3rd grade position and Ms. Brenna

Ohrmundt to the Instrumental Music position. Bren-

na is a December graduate of UW-Stevens Point.

Melissa is relocating back to Wisconsin from Califor-

nia where she taught 3rd grade for 3 years. Wel-

come to Lincoln!!

As we move into the 2019-2020 school year,

there is still a strong need for substitute teachers

throughout the district. If you or someone you

know would be in interested in being a substitute

teacher, we would love to have you! I would wel-

come the opportunity to sit down with anyone in-

terested in subbing in our district. Please have

them contact me in the District Office by calling

715-964-8271 to set up an appointment.

If you have not seen the newly released video

highlighting our great district, please visit

www.lincolnhornets.org. The link can be found un-

der the “Parents” tab where you select “District

Video.”

Have a safe and enjoyable summer!

FBLA Attends State Leadership

Conference, Qualifies for Nationals FBLA members recently attended the State

Leadership Conference in Green Bay where they

listened to keynote speakers, attended workshops,

went on tours, and networked with other students

from all over the state. Jordan Parker and Paige

Sheffer competed in American Enterprise Project,

and they have qualified to compete at the Nation-

al Leadership Conference this summer in San Anto-

nio, TX.

lia Rogers - 12th gr.

Lincoln FCCLA attends State Leadership

Conference

Wow! What a crazy, busy, snowy spring it has

been. Lincoln FCCLA managed to squeeze a trip to WI

Dells on April 8-10 to attend the WI FCCLA State Leader-

ship Conference and STAR Event Competi-

tion. Members were busy voting for next years’ state

officers, attending training workshops, and competing

against FCCLA members from across the state for the

opportunity to represent their school and WI FCCLA at

the National FCCLA Conference in Anaheim, CA in

June.

Once again, Lincoln FCCLA members worked hard

despite so many ice and snow day cancellations, to

earn Gold and Silvers at the state level in their respec-

tive events. Senior FCCLA members Ian Hoge, Recycle

and Redesign, SR, lead the way with a top gold; while

Faith Pozega, Teach & Train, Occupational earned top

scores as well. Earning Silvers were: the team of Miah

Breheim, Emily Frey, and Liza Cummings, Chapter Ser-

vice Project and Display, JR. Ian Hoge, the team of

Trystyn Hoffman, Calysta Hawkins-Luken, and Lacey

Labar, Chapter Service Display, JR,; Lily Nichols, Illustra-

tive Talk, JR;. Hannah Lamp, Basic Kitchen Math and

Terminology. Also representing Lincoln FCCLA this year

was Faith Pozega and Hannah Lamp, Regional Reps,

and Lily Nichols and Abby Heath, Voting Delegates.

The top two scores in each event (state-wide) are

invited to attend the National FCCLA Leadership Con-

ference. We are happy to announce that Faith Poze-

ga, Kloee Stazik, Emily Otto and Ian Hoge had the top

scores in their respective events. Nationals will be in An-

aheim, CA this summer, June 29-July 4.

A big thank you goes out to Tina Hoge who judged

STAR Events, drove vehicles, and assisted with anything

else that was needed. Lincoln’s FCCLA adviser is Kara

Wensel.

Post-Secondary Planning

Timeline for Juniors 1. Research your options and make sure the

schools in which you are interested have your

program/major.

2. Teacher recommendations: Consider whom

you will ask to write your recommenda-

tions. Think about asking teachers who know

you well and who will write positive academic

recommendations about you. Letters from

coaches, club advisors, church members and

other adults who know you well outside of

school are also valuable. Make sure to ask for

your recommendations well in advance.

3. Apply for a summer job or internship. College

applications and testing fees can be very cost-

ly. Summer is a great time to gain valuable

work experience and responsibility.

4. Visit the campuses of your top three college

choices. It is important to visit both two and

four year college campuses. Often times we

overlook the schools right in our backyard,

make the most of what local campuses have

to offer.

5. Talk to current students who are attending the

colleges in which you are interested.

6. Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer! You can nev-

er have enough community service hours to

include in your applications and resumes. You

will also benefit personally from helping others.

7. Compose rough drafts of your college es-

says. This will make things simpler at the start of

school when asking for help proofreading from

your English teacher or other adult.

8. Start thinking about how you will afford col-

lege. This is where that part-time job might

come in handy.

9. Take senior year seriously. Colleges will look at

your grades and course rigor. Make sure that

you have a challenging and enjoyable sched-

ule.

Yearbook Senior Portrait Deadline:

October 1, 2019 The yearbook staff is beginning to plan the 2020

yearbook. In order to help students and parents

make plans for senior portrait sessions and keep

hassles to a minimum, we would like to share the

senior portrait policy.

All photos submitted must meet the following

requirements:

· head and shoulder, VERTICAL photo

· color, not black and white

· no name stamps, borders. etc.

· no props

· all student attire must be tasteful and conform to

the school dress code

Students are NOT required to use a professional

photographer; however, if they do choose to have

a friend or relative take their photos, they should

keep the above rules in mind. Also, photos taken

outdoors on cloudy days are often best, as the

lighting isn’t too harsh. Please be sure the resolution

is at least 300 dpi so the photo is not blurry when

printed.

To ensure the highest quality printing, please ask

your photographer to submit your photo digitally, if

possible. If submitting a photo via print or CD,

please write the student’s full name clearly on the

CD or back of the print. All photos should be sent

to the attention of Neil Fitzmaurice at Lincoln High

School, 124 S. School Street, Alma Center, WI 54611.

You should plan to have your photos taken

BEFORE you arrive back at school in September, as it

takes photographers time to get your prints back to

you. Please check with your photographer a few

weeks before the deadline to make sure the photo

was sent to the high school. Photos need to be sub-

mitted on time! If we do not have your senior photo

by the deadline, your picture will not be included in

the yearbook! If you have any questions, please

feel free to contact the yearbook advisor at:

[email protected]

The Faith Community Invites You to a

Graduate Affirmation Celebration

Juniors: College Campus Visits 101 Summer is the perfect time to experience college

life and schedule your campus visits.

While you are on campus you will want to sched-

ule an official tour by contacting the office of admis-

sions. Try to meet with current students taking sum-

mer classes. If possible, schedule a meeting with a

counselor or financial aid advisor.

Take advantage of the great weather and see

Wisconsin campuses in their summer glory. No high

school classes will be missed and you can have mul-

tiple mini-vacations.

Make the most of your time on campus! You will

be spending years of your life and thousands of dol-

lars there...make the visit count and ask lots of ques-

tions.

Have fun and enjoy the visit. This is a great oppor-

tunity to spend some quality time with mom and dad

before you take that next step.

Athletic Physicals for 2019-20 Sports

Grades 6-11

Students need physicals every other year to

participate in athletics, so most students currently

in grades 6, 8, and 10 will need physicals for ath-

letic participation next school year. Students that

participated in track or cross country in 6th

grade, and got their physical prior to those sea-

sons will be on a different schedule. Those stu-

dents will get their physicals prior to grades 8, 10,

and 12. If you are not sure if you need one,

check with Mr. Hanson or the high school office.

You may pick up the WIAA form in the high

school office before you go for your physical or it

can be found on the WIAA website under the

Health tab.

The cost of the athletic physical is the responsi-

bility of the student and their parent. Physical

forms need to be on file before a student may

participate in practice or games.

The date for high school football equipment

handout is Monday, August 5 with practice start-

ing on Tuesday, August 6. The start date for high

school volleyball and cross-country practice is

Monday, August 19.

2019-20 School Calendar and Supply List The 2019-20 School Calendar and School Supply List is

available on the school website. Copies are also availa-

ble at both the Lincoln High School office and Lincoln

Elementary office.
