SCHOOL MISSON
1. School Vision, Mission and Motto 1.1. School Vision
We believe every child in our school can achieve excellent academic results, they can explore their potential and they understand life principles and cultivate virtue.
1.2. School Mission The School is managed under Po Leung Kuk’s school system. Owing to the uniqueness of our teaching and learning environment, the school reserves its right to its own curriculum and teaching methodology. The mission of the school is to provide quality education that develops confident children. We are working under the Direct Subsidy Scheme. With better resources, we aim to offer an excellent learning environment and ideal facilities to enhance effective and enjoyable learning. New initiatives will be adopted to enhance learning and teaching. We provide various learning experiences and opportunities to encourage our children to develop their potential.
1.3. School Motto Love, Respect, Diligence, Integrity, Understanding Tao, Establishing Virtue.
2. SWOT Analysis
2.1. Our Strengths • Principal has a good reputation
• A popular school in Tuen Mun with a good reputation
• Cheap school fees
• Co-teaching; teachers collaborate and co-plan lessons and activities
• Comparatively high number of NETs---there are nine in total this year • EMI school: High standard of language ability. • Chinese is taught in Putonghua
• The swimming pool complex has facilities for team practices
PLK HKTA YUENYUEN PRIMARY SCHOOL
1718 school Development Plan 4
• More than adequate manpower of 67 teaching staff • Each year, we improve our selection of students admitted • We have well-established school teams and they have consistently achieved outstanding results every year • Students can be exposed to various extra-curricular activities
• We have good SSPA results
• Abundant financial support and resources • iPads are available for a whole grade of students. Teachers can use them to better their teaching and the
students’ learning.
2.2. Our Weaknesses • Small and old campus
• Lack of classrooms and function rooms
• Our school is physically small for students to move around and do activities
• Class sizes are big
• Turnover of teaching staff • Location is not highly accessible. Will not be able to attract parents which are not in the New Territories
• Without a through-train secondary school after P.6. Parents need to worry about secondary school allocation
• Students spend most of the time speaking in English. Mandarin (Chinese) skills might not be as good as their English skills
• Many teachers in our school do not spend enough time on training (150 hours every 3 years) • Much of the equipment (e.g. sound system, IT equipment) is old and lacks maintenance
• No concrete method to evaluate teaching effectiveness • Lacking welfare for teachers
2.3. Our Opportunities
• Each year, there is an increasing number of student applicants
• Potentially higher intake rate of students with the establishment of the new swimming pool complex
• More Chinese and English teachers than other local schools
• We provide lots of overseas learning experiences. • Students are able to perform in various shows throughout the year. • School teams have a reputations of good teams and consistently do well in competitions. • With the completion of the swimming pool, we will be able to hold an even larger variety of events and
competitions. • Lots of good, young and energetic teachers are willing and dedicated to work
PLK HKTA YUENYUEN PRIMARY SCHOOL
1718 school Development Plan 5
• A strong PTA team and lots of supportive parents
• The swimming pool will save time travelling to the public swimming pool • Our school has held ‘Super Speakers’ competition so more kindergartens are getting to know our school better • Get attention from the public because of the new swimming pool complex
• New STEM curriculum
• More new teachers, more new and innovative ideas
• The school and principal are supportive of new ideas
• Good academic result
2.4. Our Threats • Principal’s retirement • The retirement of senior management • Teacher retention may be low because contracts need to be renewed every year • Keen competition among new DSS schools and international schools nearby • Some students prefer studying in well-known schools in Kowloon so they quit • New swimming pool complex: increase the risk of accidents. There is a potential for students to get infectious
diseases from the swimming pool and we need to make sure it is cleaned properly and regularly to avoid that happening
• Extra manpower and maintenance fee is needed for the swimming pool • Teachers may choose to leave the DSS school because there is no permanent post • Shortage and high turnover rate of professional IT technicians
• A lack of and high turnover rate of supporting staff or clerical staff to support teachers’ administration work • Decreasing number of school age children in 2019-2020
• No security guard means a high accident risk
• Not enough SEN training for teachers
3. Major Concerns for 2017/2018
