ONCE UPON A TIME-

• There were families

Page 3: SCHOOL CONCURRENCY TRACKING June 2008 Annual Summit

And they wanted their children to get an education

Page 4: SCHOOL CONCURRENCY TRACKING June 2008 Annual Summit

And a school was built

Page 5: SCHOOL CONCURRENCY TRACKING June 2008 Annual Summit

REWIND TO JUST A FEW YEARS AGO

It was decided that schools should be built at the same time housing was being built

Page 6: SCHOOL CONCURRENCY TRACKING June 2008 Annual Summit

Just like the roads to get to the homes

Page 7: SCHOOL CONCURRENCY TRACKING June 2008 Annual Summit

Just like the lines to bring drinking water

Page 8: SCHOOL CONCURRENCY TRACKING June 2008 Annual Summit

Just like the power to light the lamps

Page 9: SCHOOL CONCURRENCY TRACKING June 2008 Annual Summit

And school concurrency was born

Page 10: SCHOOL CONCURRENCY TRACKING June 2008 Annual Summit

We started with a simple table to show what school a new development would be assigned to.

ZONED SCHOOL CURRENT ENROLLMENT

CURRENT DOE CAPACITY

X Elementary 400 450

Y Middle 800 850

Z Senior 1500 1550

However, Concurrency required looking at more than just current data so the table was expanded.

School Concurrency also allows for reserving student stations based on upcoming housing developments

• A simple excel file was created to track the many items involved in a review of a proposed housing development, including the data from the previous table • Type of housing• Number of students generated• Number of seats calculated to be available• Adjacent school zones

Page 13: SCHOOL CONCURRENCY TRACKING June 2008 Annual Summit

• Other forms and processes are still in the development stage, including transitioning away from the excel file to a more accessible database.

CONCLUSION- CHANGE WILL OCCUR

Certain tables in the system will be updated periodically

• Enrollment file -twice per year • 1) 60th day for current enrollment,• 2) April for next year ‘s projections

• Reserved seats removed- once per year• New schools and enhancements – once per year in

October as the 5 year plan is updated and adopted

Our web site and the interaction with the web site will also be changing as our technology moves forward
