Each scholarship has its own deadline, so students need to consistently check year-round. Deadlines listed below change from year to year, so they are purposely not specific

Questbridge National College MatchOutstanding high-achieving, low-income juniors can earn scholarships to summer programs, and full four-year college scholarships. Go to www.questbridge.org to see if you qualify. Deadline: September

Distinguished Young Women of Hawaii ScholarshipSeniors can earn cash scholarships to the college of their choice or a $40,000 HPU scholarship. Gromet FoundationSeniors who excel academically, and meet financial disability criteria of roughly 150% or less of the poverty guideline for Hawaii. Horatio Alger Scholarship$5000 to $20,000 scholarships for seniors who plan to earn a bachelor’s degree, and demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income),

NSA Stokes Educational ScholarshipSeniors interested in majoring in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical Engineering can apply for this program in which you can attend the college of your choice (paid tuition and fees), get reimbursed for books up to $1,500 per year, have a paid job related to your major every summer, and a guaranteed job after graduating from college. AXA Achievement ScholarshipsOne senior from each State will get $10,000. National winners get $15,000 more. Ambition, self-drive through outstanding academics, community, or work experience. Honolulu Filipino Junior Chamber of Commerce ScholarshipSeniors with a minimum 3.0 gpa must write an essay on one of the following topics:

1. Why is it important to perpetuate the Filipino culture in Hawaii?2. What are the values or ideals that you feel are most important?3. How would you bridge the generations in the Filipino community?

Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF)Seniors who are Asian and/or Pacific Islander as defined by the US Census, US Citizen/national/legal permanent resident of the US. FIRE ScholarshipFoundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) “Freedom in Academia” essay contest for seniors. Go to Thefire.org/contests. Deadline: January 1

Gates Millennium ScholarsCriteria: Seniors who meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility (significant financial need), 3.3 minimum gpa, either African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American (includes Hawaiian), or Hispanic American. U.S. Citizen or permanent resident. Demonstrated leadership abilities through school or community activities. Application: www.gmsp.org Deadline: January

Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation ScholarshipsSeniors who are U.S. Citizens and applying to 4-year colleges. $5,000 to $10,000 awards. Criteria: Academic achievement, scholarship and merit, financial need, involvement in school and community activities. Must file FAFSA.www.hryf-d5000.org . Must receive one sponsoring Rotary club by January

JFK Profile in Courage High School Essay ContestGrades 9-12 may enter. Describe and act of courage by a U.S. elected official that occurred during or after 1956, citing a minimum of 5 sources. 1st Place $10,000 and family trip to receive the award; 2nd Place $1,000; 5 Finalists $500.Go to www.jfklibrary.org. Charles R. Kendall Scholarships$1,500 to $1,500 scholarships for seniors who are dependents of HGEA members. GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship ProgramSeniors who emody the characteristics of President Ronald Reagan can receive $40,000. Apply at www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships. Deadline: January

University of Hawaii at Manoa “New Warrior Scholarships”Seniors who apply to UH Manoa and have a 3.5 gpa, and specific SAT or ACT may qualify for the Regent’s, Chancellor’s, or Merit scholarships. Details at www.hawaii.edu/fas/info/scholarships.php. Deadline: January

PCHS PTSA ScholarshipsSeniors who are members of the PCHS PTSA may apply for one of four scholarships. Personal statement, personal data sheet, and two letters of recommendation required. Application in C103. Deadline: January 31

American Legion Oratorical ContestGrades 9-12 can earn awards from $14,000 to $18,000. Develop a deep knowledge of the Constitution of the United States and develop a speech.Go to http://americanlegionhawaii.org. State contest is February.

Phi Delta Kappa Hawaii Prospective Educator ScholarshipSeniors who plan to major in education may apply if they meet one of these criteria: 1) are a member of the Future Educators Association; or 2) are a child or grandchild of a Phi Delta Kappa member; or 3) get a letter of recommendation from a Phi Delta Kappa member. $75 award State award, then compete for the $1,000 national award. KFC Colonel’s ScholarshipSeniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit can qualify for awards of up to $20,000. Minimum 2.75 gpa, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, attend a college within your state of legal residence, U.S. citizen or permanent resident, financial need. Buick Achievers Scholarship ProgramSeniors who major in S.T.E.M. related areas, with an interest in working in the automotive or related industries. STEM majors include Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Executive Women International ScholarshipSenior males and females who plan to earn at least a bachelor’s degre in Business or professional field of study. Awards from $1,000 to $5,000. Extra $500 award to most creative notebook.Deadline: February

Citizenship Award Scholarship $1,000Criteria: One senior selected to represent PCHS, who best exemplifies the DOE’s vision of a public school graduate. Two letters of recommendation. Application in C103. Deadine: February

HMSA Kaimana Scholarships$5,000 for seniors with a minimum 2.75 gpa, participate in a high school league-sanctioned sport. Community involvement, sportsmanship.Application: HMSA.com/Kaimana. Deadline: February

Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Ambassador of Aloha ScholarshipCriteria: Senior who exemplifies the character and personality traits that made Duke a well respected athlete and individual – embody the “Spirit of Aloha.”Must have competed in swimming, surfing, paddling, kayaking, or water polo and intend to continue the sport in college. $10,000 awardApplication: www.dukefoundation.org or C103. Foodland Shop for Higher Education Scholarships$2,000 scholarships for seniors who plan to enroll in a 4-year college. Must rank in the top 20% of your class academically, have participated in a club or program that served the community, display leadership skills, be a role model, team player, caring, and compassionate. UNCF STEM Scholarships$25,000 scholarships for African American/Black seniors with a minimum 3.0 gpa and will major in a STEM area - math, science, computer, or engineering, etc.Go to UNCF.org/STEMSCHOLARS. Deadline: February

Women’s League of Central Union Church Scholarships

$1,000 to $5,000 scholarships for seniors based on demonstrated financial need, academics, community service, character and evidence of partial financial self-support. Look for the Ruth Scudder Scholarship and Kenneth and Doris Rewick Educational Aid Fund at www.centralunionchurch.org/womens-league/scholarships. Only the first 50 applications received will be considered.Deadline: February

Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation ScholarshipsSeniors who major in a Business-related area at a 4-year college. Hawaii State AFL-CIO ScholarshipsOpen to any senior. Essay -1000 words on the importance of labor unions in Hawaii from a personal point of view or historical perspective. American Society of Military Comptrollers Aloha Chapter ScholarshipsSeniors who plan to major in a field of study directly related to financial/resource management such as business administration, economics, public administration, accounting, or finance may apply. Mufi Hanneman Scholar-Athlete AwardsOne senior male and one senior female at PCHS will each earn a $500 scholarship based on: Excelling in one sport during the school year; passing all core courses and minimum cumulative gpa of 3.0; leadership qualities and character in extracurricular activities. Longs Senior ScholarshipCriteria: Senior interested in a business-related major. Letter of recommendation, transcript, 300-word personal statement. $1,000. Application in C103. Deadline: April

Oahu Federal Credit Union Monetary AwardsTwo $1,000 scholarships for seniors. You do not have to be a member of the OFCU. Criteria: academic achievement, citizenship, leadership, character, essay. Application in C103 or www.oahufcu.org Postmark deadline: April

Rotary Club of Pearlridge Service Above Self Scholarship$2,000 for up to 4 years for a senior from Aiea or Pearl City High School. U.S. Citizen or legal Hawaii resident, 3.0 gpa, academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular activities. Application in C103. Deadline: April 1.

Save-A-Life-Enhance-A-Life Foundation ScholarshipMust be a senior in the AVID program, demonstrate financial need, overcome barriers to achieve goals. $500 to $2,000 awards. Application in C103. Deadline: April

Trinity United Methodist Church Good Samaritan AwardOne Senior who graduates from PCHS will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Emphasis is on community and school service (50%), essay (25%), financial need (25%). Must have at least a 2.0 cumulative gpa, and plan to attend an accredited two or four-year college in Fall 2011.
