Student testimonies:
For me, receiving a scholarship has been a very humbling and fortunate experience. I'm happy
I have been able to help my parents with whatever amount in order to help pay for my
education. I was also able to prove to myself that I do have the confidence to set myself apart
as a worthy student. Ultimately, it has shown me that hard work and perseverance are all
worth it in the end. I am grateful for this scholarship, because it has reinforced my drive and
motivation to just keep working harder to achieve my bigger plans in life.
Ingrid de Oca | Freshman Foods & Nutrition major
This year was the first year of my college career. I had to worry about moving over 2,000
miles away from home, the new and rigorous collegiate curriculum, and being an
independent student living on my own. The one thing I did not want to have to worry about
was financing my college education and the College of Ag scholarships helped take this
burden off my shoulders.
I received the Allen C. Christensen Scholarship. When I discovered that I had been
awarded this scholarship I was overjoyed. It was a major relief to know that some of the
burden of paying for college was taken off my hands. Since receiving this scholarship I have
been way more appreciative of the opportunity I have of going to this amazing institution. I
know that someone out there believes in me enough to succeed that they’re actually paying
for me to go out and get my degree. While seemingly a lot of pressure to be under, it is
actually very encouraging and pushes me to work hard in everything I do.
Being an animal science major here at Cal Poly Pomona, I get to work hands on with
real live animals and not be stuck in a classroom reading from a textbook. I get to witness a
foal being born, diagnose sick animals, and take care of a wide range of creatures including
sheep, cows, pigs, and horses. All these opportunities are available because of the help of the
Allen C. Christensen Scholarship. I definitely would not be here without the help of the College
of Ag scholarships.
These scholarships are an incredible blessing to all who receive them. They allow all students
the opportunity to achieve their dreams and follow their passions in order to make a
difference in the world. I know without these scholarships, I would not be where I am today.
Dylan Matsuda | Freshman animal science major
