ScholarshipforMastersproject:GISdatabaseofWaihekeenvironmentandimpacts
ProjectForeverWaiheke(PFW)isofferinga$5,000scholarshiptosupportaMastersprojectin2019withtheaimofcreatingaGISstructuretocontaindataconcerningtheusesandhabitatsofWaihekeIsland'sterrestrialandmarineenvironments.Itisintendedthatthedatabasewillserveasthestartingpointforongoingmonitoring.PFWhasclosecontactwiththeWaihekeLocalBoardandaimstodevelopsustainablecommunityandtourismstrategyandmonitortourismimpactsontheisland,undertheumbrellaofUnitedNationsWorldTourismOrganisation’sInternationalNetworkofSustainableTourismObservatoriesprogramme,“INSTO”.Applicantswillhavetodemonstratethattheyhaveaprojectproposal,acceptedbyasupervisor,thatfallswithinthebroaddomainofPFW’sinterests[seehttps://www.foreverwaiheke.com/].Inadditiontothemonetaryaward,PFWwillarrangefreeferrytraveltoandfromAuckland,accommodationandtransportonWaiheke,aswellassupportwithaccessingrelevantorganisationsandindividualswhocansupporttheproject.AUniversityofAucklandstudentundertakingtheenvisagedresearchmayalsoapplytotheFacultyofScienceSustainabilityNetworkforanadditionalawardofupto$2,000forlivingcosts.[TheclosingdateforcurrentroundofSustainabilityNetworkawardsis5November2018:seehttp://www.science.auckland.ac.nz/en/about/our-faculty-3/sustainability-network/research-awards-for-current-students.html]ThereisnoclosingdateforapplicationsforthisscholarshipandPFWreservestherighttoawardthescholarshipforanyspecificprojectthatsatisfiesitscriteria.Enquiriesto: PeterWills,DepartmentofPhysics,UniversityofAuckland [email protected] tel:099238889
