5. Overloading of Courses

1. Type of Students

a) General Students:

All students (except First Year Common Engineering (ENG 1) and Art, Design and Media (ADM 1) students) register for your courses before the Semester 1 examination results are released. You are to register for your courses on the assumption that you will pass all your courses taken in Semester 1.

b) First Year Common Engineering (ENG 1) and Art, Design and Media (ADM 1) Students:

ENG 1 and ADM 1 students will register your courses after the S1 examination results have been released and after you have been streamed.

c) Students on Outgoing Exchange Programme (in Semester 1 AY2013-14):

For students who are on outgoing exchange in Semester 1, it will be based on the assumption that you will earn the normal load specified for your programme for Semester 1 (for normal load of your programme, you may refer to your School’s registration instructions or check with your School’s Registration Advisors).

d) Students on Incoming Exchange:

Incoming Exchange students will be allocated their approved courses and do not have to register for courses. For courses that have clashes in class or examination timetable, only one course will be allocated, subject to vacancy. Any necessary course adjustment has to be done during the Add/Drop period.

e) Students approved for Overseas Exchange Programme (in Semester 2, AY2013-14):

Students who have been approved to go on overseas exchange programme (i.e. OGEM Explorer and Discoverer) in Semester 2, AY2013-14 would not be able to register courses, since they would be overseas during the semester

f) ‘Failed’ Students:

‘Failed’ students refer to students who have not cleared all their Core courses/GER Core courses/Major Prescribed Electives. GERPE/UE courses are excluded. Students who missed their examinations including those on MC or approved leave will also register with the ‘Failed’ group of students. This is only applicable for programmes with separate schedule for ‘Failed’ group of students.

g) Students on Academic Standing (i.e. Academic Probation or Academic Warning):

Students who are currently on Academic Standing will not have their registration study year reclassified to the next year of study for the purpose of course registration, even if they meet the minimum AUs to be promoted to the next study year in Semester 2 (with the assumption that they pass all the courses registered in Semester 1).

h) Students approved to Change Programme:

For students who have been approved to change their programme, an advisory note on course registration will be stated in their approval letter.

2. Registration Study Year

You will be scheduled to access the registration system and register for your courses based on your Registration Study Year. The Registration Study Year is your study year in S2 AY 2013-14 and which is determined by the following: AUs earned to date + AUs registered in S1 AY 2013-14 ≥ minimum AUs required to be promoted to the next study year For students who are on outgoing exchange in S1 AY 2013-14:

Page 3: ScheduleforCourseRegistration

Page 3 of 9 (by alpha)

AUs earned to date + normal load (AU) for S1 AY 2013-14 specified by the School ≥ minimum AUs required to be promoted to the next study year Please note that students who are currently on Academic Standing will not have their registration study year reclassified to the next year of study, even if they meet the minimum AUs to be promoted. For details on the classification of students by study year, please refer to: http://www.ntu.edu.sg/Students/Undergraduate/AcademicServices/Pages/AcademicUnitSystem(AUS).aspx

3. After Release of Examination Results After the Semester 1 examination results have been released, students who fail to meet the prerequisite (i.e. fail a course that is a pre-requisite to a registered course) or are on Academic Standing (and cannot exceed normal semester load) will be advised by their Schools on de-registration of the relevant courses.

4. Course Registration – What to do

Students are to register their core courses and major prescribed electives; and place GERPE/UE on waitlist during the timeslots indicated, unless otherwise stated. For GERPE/UE, students may place 5 choices each for GERPE and UE on waitlist. They may access STARS from 5.00 p.m. – 10.00 p.m. daily from the day of their registration till Fri, 20 Dec 2013*, if they wish to add or drop their choices of GERPE/UE that they have placed on waitlist. * Note: ENG 1 and ADM 1 students who are not streamed in S1 AY2013-14 will place their choices for GERPE and UE on Tue, 7 Jan 2014. In order to increase your success rate in the allocation of GERPE/UE, you are advised to:

Consider GERPE/UE with few students on waitlist

Place at least 3 choices on waitlist for each category (STARS will prompt you if you have placed less than 3 choices.)

5. Overloading of Courses

All students (except for ADM 1, ACC, BUS and ACBS students) can overload for courses on their scheduled day of registration between 5.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m..

Page 4: ScheduleforCourseRegistration
