Samuel Marsh received a certificate of appreciation for his outstanding service with the Men’s Retreat.

******************************************************************** FOURTH DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION

The 4th Degree Exemplification is scheduled for registration at St. Pius X Catholic Church starting at 11:30 AM. Following is the “Schedule of Events”:

11:30AM – Candidants to Register and be moved to the Assembly Anti-Chamber. Ladies and guests will be escorted to an alternate program area withinthe parish.

12:45PM – Candidants line up for class picture.

1:00PM – Exemplification begins, ladies & guests progrm begins.

4:00PM – Exemplification ends – Social begins with picture taking.

4:30PM – Knights & their Ladies assemble for Mass

5:00PM – Mass

6:00PM – Social continues with picture taking

7:00PM – Banquet begins

Candidates must first approach the Council Financial Secretary Art Ramirez to officially become a “candidate”. The Financial Secretary is to complete and sign Section 7 of the Form 4 to verify that the candidate is a Third Degree member is in good standing and that his First Degree date and Membership Number are correct.

******************************************************************* WHEELCHAIR DONATION & DELIVERY

On Mar 20, Sam Szalwinski organized a delivery of approximately 40 wheelchairs donated by the parishioners of St. Mark the Evangelist. As part of the American Wheelchair Mission these wheelchairs were delivered to 3 locations in San Antonio: Audie Murphy VA Hospital, Padua Place and St. Francis Assisted Living Home. Volunteers that helped load and deliver the wheelchairs with Sam Szalwinski were Arnold Sanchez, Sal Scalia, Dan Alderete, Ramiro Ramos and Ruben Ayala.

The Knights Family Communion at the 10 o’clock Mass on Sunday, March 31, was well attended. Thanks to Brother SK Pete Peterson for his effort in obtaining such a successful attendance. District Deputy Will Torres presented the Council an award for recruiting new members. The recipients that are included on the award shown below are GK Andy Totah, Stuart Beaulleau, John Rich, Pete Blozis, SK Richard Lee, and SK Pedro Weber.

During the April Council 7613 meeting, $1,000 scholarships were awarded to the following awaedees:

For one to be eligible for the scholarships granted, the awardees listed had to be a high school senior, be registered at a Catholic Church, plan to attend a certified college (or vocational school) in year 2019, and are involved in church activities.

Eleven of our Brother Knights seemed to be hard at it to get the jobs done, all seriously looking with no smiles. More than 300 chairs plus many tables were reviewed cleaned and as necessary, repaired. Not shown below working is the picture taker (and also worker) SK Gerardo Zapata.

Shown immediately below was some “outside work” involving the repair of sprinklers and gardening in our Hall Garden. The gardening work included replanting and mulching.

The CHOC team wasted few words in getting the work done quickly and efficiently – well, there

is one in the 2nd picture below smiling and just holding onto the gardening tools.

********************************************************************* ST MARK’S ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT

Children 8 years and older participated in the egg hunt and enjoyed the fun of finding their treats. Pictured below is Deacon Steve and Chris Huggins. Deacon Steve started the event with a blessing and Chris followed by making the announcements regarding what was to follow.

The two grand children of PGK/SK Ysau Flores pictured below (left) show that they really are enjoying the event, especially by their welcoming by the Easter Bunny. Pictured at right shows more fun of others.

As shown in the following four pictures, this year’s Easter Egg Hunt was well attended.

Then, as shown below, the action of children doing what they came to do – to have fun finding eggs.

********************************************************************* SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Our guys, shown below, cooked 270 hamburgers, bagged them with chips and delivered them to Rutledge Stadium where the Special Olympics field games were held on April 13. The sides of the tent had to be lowered because of the storm. Not shown below is the photographer and cook GK Andy Totah.

********************************************************************* GET TO KNOW YOUR BROTHER KNIGHTS BETTER

SK Blake Tamez

At the March 7 Council meeting we welcomed SK Blake Tamez as a new member of our Council. Following is a short history of his accomplishments and current position at St. Mark’s.

SK Blake’s hometown is San Antonio, and he was raised as a parishioner at St. Mark. He graduated from Antonian High School in 2013. He then moved to Nashville, TN and studied cognitive studies at Vanderbilt University. After graduating in 2017, He spent a year discerning the religious life with the Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Joseph in Cincinnati. He is now in a catechetics graduate program through the University of Dallas and serves as a youth minister at St. Mark.
