Linda Zins-Adams teaches German and serves as the AP Curriculum

Director at Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, OH. She is a

certified and trained AP consultant, reader/table leader, and reviewer

for College Board, and has conducted numerous state, regional, and

national workshops and webinars independently for school district throughout the nation. She

is also a Secondary Freelancer for Vista Higher Learning and has conducted keynotes for

Louisiana (LFLTA), Montana (MALT), and Wisconsin (WAFLT). She has received the Distinguished

Alumna from the University of Cincinnati, the Federal Republic of Germany Friendship Award,

and the AATG/Goethe-Institut Certificate of Merit, and recently the Award for Excellence in

Foreign Language Instruction Using Technology with IALLT (K-12), and is the recipient of the

2014 Outstanding German Educator Award. She was the SCOLT Teacher of the Year in 2009 and

served as president for SCOLT. During her term on the SCOLT board she served as the SCOLTalk

editor and Awards Chair.

01 Planning and Teaching Innovative Latin Courses Using the New SC Standard for World Language Proficiency (Room A-204) Latin teachers might be a little discombobulated by the new SC Standard for World Language Proficiency and how it applies to Classical languages. This session is designed to allay any fears people might have and to give them as many tools as possible to implement the standard in their own classrooms. In this session we will discuss how to design Latin courses using the new standard. Participants will receive sample unit and lesson plans for novice and intermediate levels, hands-on help in designing their own plans centered on their own interests, and ideas for assessments in all competency areas, including interpersonal communication and presentational writing and speaking. 02 Technology Lessons that Don’t Take All Day (Room A-206) Technology. Love it or hate it, we must incorporate it as much as possible these days. Major projects can take days to complete and present. But sometimes, we need something short to incorporate into a 90 minute block. This presentation will show you a variety of activities that can be completed, start to finish, in 30 minutes or less. This will be especially helpful for schools going 1-to-1. 05 Proficiency and the IPA in Spanish I (Room A-204) The main concern will be the implementation of the IPA in a manner that actually promotes proficiency rather than paperwork. Direct instruction in the target language should be more a Buberian "I and thou" rather than "drill and kill." The role of grammar in the modern-language classroom will also be addressed. 08 Teaching Like a Pirate (Room A-210)

This session will teach you how to teach like a pirate. In other words, how to legally steal ideas until you have a treasure trove of resources. You will learn the art of easily and effectively finding authentic resources and cutting edge lesson plans for free. You will learn how to curate those resources so that you can use them effectively in your teaching. You will also be introduced to the concept of a virtual Professional Learning Network and learn about the best professional development in the world. 09 Digital Media and Early Language Learners (Room A-204) This session examines how authentic digital media (songs, e-books, videos, etc.) benefits world language students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. We will discuss which free Spanish and Latin American resources are available online and how to search for and access them. We will look at the best ways to engage students with digital media, including effective teaching strategies and pre- and post-activities. Lastly, we will discuss how using digital media can increase proficiency. 10 Techniques in Translating Spanish Novels (Room A-206) Luz Argentina Chiriboga of Ecuador has written a novel La nariz del diablo and its tells the true story of Jamaicans building railroad stations across Ecuador. They face many obstacles as they build the stations. This session will give the audience tools they can use in Literature classes to help students translate long passages and novels. 12 Latine Loquamur: Designing and Implementing Interpersonal Communication in the Latin Classroom (Room A-210)

Attendees will learn how to integrate the interpersonal mode of the Latin language in their own lessons by participating in Latin conversations themselves. The main purpose of this session is to provide participants with tools and vocabulary, which will allow them to implement the Interpersonal Communication of the new SC Standard for WL Proficiency. Additionally, it is hoped that this session will serve as the stepping-stone for the continuous improvement of the participants’ fluency in speaking in Latin.
