Ardevan Bakhtari received his Ph.D. in instrumentation and robotics from the University of Toronto in 2006. He has been involved in development of specialized instruments for many �rms including the Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) and Health Canada.

Dr. Bakhtari founded IDES Canada Inc., a high-tech engineering company specialized in thedesign and production of tools for the environmental industry, in 2008. Since its foundation, IDES has grown to the premier supplier of odour sampling and measurement equipment servicing government agencies, laboratories, consultants, and industrial plants in more than 20 countriesSpread over 6 continents.

Scentroid SS600 is industry’s �rst olfactometer that uses high-accuracy Mass Flow Controllers to monitor and adjust both the sample air and the clean diluting air, ensuring accurate dilution ratio regardlessof variations in ambient pressure or temperature.

All equipment used on the Scentroid SS600 are certi�ed for industrial-use. Siemens control hardwareand machine interface coupled with specialized stainless steel valves, mass �ow controllers, and regulators ensures unprecedented reliability. No consumer goods, no PCs, and no tablets.

Sample pressurization causes condensation and odour losses. With the SS600 you simply plug your sample to the intake port. Quick, simple, and most of all no odour losses.

In addition to shorter sample analysis time the SS600 also has the smallest sample consumption of any olfactometer on the market. Typical 3 round analysis requires only 10 L sample!You will save on sampling, shipping, cleaning, purging, and etc.. This will guaranteee the shortest return on investment.

COPLANAR VALVES The mass �ow controllers used to control the dilution of the SS600 utilize the newest advancements in valve technology called Coplanar. Coupled with Scentroid’s advance control algorithm running on Siemens newest industrial controllers allows you to complete your analysis in shorter time. Saving you time and money!

CONTAMINATION CONTROLThe SS600 bene�ts from our decades of experience designing instruments for nuclear and medical industry. Contamination control is a key feature built into the design of the SS600.

1. ONLY STAINLESS STEEL:All wetted surfaces are made of electro-polished stainless steel. No PTFE! PTFE absorbs VOCs and can be di�cult to clean.

2. PULSE JET PURGINGScentroid SS600 utilizes IDES unique pulse jet-purging. This technology, originally developed by IDES for nuclear industry, is the most e�ective way of cleaning contaminates from inside a stainless steel tube. During purging, air is pushed in reverse direction at high pressure and high frequency at near ultrasonic speeds. The pulsing air creates high frequency vibrations in the stainless tubing shaking the contaminates loose and carrying them away.

3. BUILT-IN HEATERSThe SS600 can activate its built-in line heaters in the rare and unlikely event that contaminate is present after pulse jet purging.

NO SAMPLE PRESSURIZATIONThe SS600 can achieve its unprecedented dilution range without any sample pressurization. Simply plug the sample into the intake port and start the experiment. This not only saves considerable time but also avoids the risk of condensation and sample degradation caused by sample pressurization.

« We have been using the Scentroid SS600 on regular basis for the last eight months and we have found it to be extremely easy to use and versatile. The unit can easily switch between the EN13725 mode and the Chinese standard (GB/T14675-93).

We have had experience with other olfactometers and we always had an issue with contamination due to the decreasing concentration needed in the Chinese standard (as oppose to the increasing concentration used in European standard), but with the SS600 we never had an issue with contamination. The reverse pulsating purge comes on only for a few seconds and you feel a small vibration of the table but then the odours are all completely gone. It’s amazing. The longest purge we have even needed has been 10 seconds and that was from a musky perfume type sample ...»

« As panel leader of Osmotech olfactometric laboratory at Pavia Science Park, I was able to use the olfactometer Scentroid SS600 from July 2012: from that date I have performed more than 750 analysis.

The instrument has replaced the ECOMA T07 in our possession, proving its extreme reliability. Among its main features it includes the presence of a highly sophisticated hardware, able to arrange six panelists at the same time and this allows the exclusion till to two panelists without compromising the test result, according to the norm. Each station is connected to a touch screen that allows the panel members to provide information about their evaluation. Also the location of the panel leader is equipped with a touch screen that allows real-time view of data. In addition each station is provided with three sni ng ports. Thanks to them the analysis can be performed not only in the yes / no mode, but also in the forced choice, both in binary choice (using 2 ports) and in triangular choice (using 3 ports).

The software allows an extremely customizable analysis, It’s possible to set a lot of parameters, in particular you can choose the starting dilution (not xed at powers of two) and the dilution step at which you want to perform a given analysis; this allows an important reduction of measurement uncertainty compared to other instruments .

Furthermore the cleaning system is extremely rapid and e ective and this allows a signi cant time saving during the analysis. »

The software included with the olfactometer allows SS600 the test administrator to monitor in real time all system parameter and analysis results.Everything happens on a Siemens industrial touch screen placed in the dedicated administrator station. The fully automated software is extremely user-friendly and is a good transitional tool that as you gain con�dence in the software you are able to use it to fully control every aspect of your analysis. Scentroid’s �exibility allows you to change dilutions steps after one round, activate hedonic tone, teach panelist, conduct N-butanol screening, and much more.

Similarly, panelists also have dedicated an industrial touch screen, that instructs them what to do and records their responses. Once testing is complete the SS600 provides you with instantaneous data analysis. All results can be exported to CSV �le on a USB stick that can be evaluated by the data processing software of your choice!
