‘Scarborough Fair’ Arranged by Stuart Ryan Although made famous by Simon and Garfunkel, ‘Scarborough Fair’ is actually an old traditional English ballad. In this arrangement the sparse melody is filled out with arpeggiated chords and occasionally harmonized to give a fuller sound - you’ll find this in bar eleven for example. A standard ‘pima’ picking hand approach will work well - the thumb plucks strings 6, 5 and 4 whilst the i, m and a fingers strike strings 3, 2 and 1 respectively. You can try alternating picking hand fingers for melody notes on the same string, e.g. in bar eleven, and don’t forget the 3/4 time signature which indicates a slow waltz - for this one count ‘1, 2, 3’ or ‘1 & 2 & 3 &’ throughout.
