‘Scarborough Fair’ Arranged by Stuart RyanAlthough made famous by Simon and Garfunkel, ‘Scarborough Fair’ is actually an old traditional English ballad. Inthis arrangement the sparse melody is filled out with arpeggiated chords and occasionally harmonized to give a fullersound - you’ll find this in bar eleven for example. A standard ‘pima’ picking hand approach will work well - the thumbplucks strings 6, 5 and 4 whilst the i, m and a fingers strike strings 3, 2 and 1 respectively. You can try alternatingpicking hand fingers for melody notes on the same string, e.g. in bar eleven, and don’t forget the 3/4 time signaturewhich indicates a slow waltz - for this one count ‘1, 2, 3’ or ‘1 & 2 & 3 &’ throughout.
