MISSIONSTATEMENT Scarborough Centrefor Alternative Studies(SCAS) providesopportunities in aquadmestered systemfor adult learners 18 andover from diversebackgrounds to enteruniversity, college, jointhe workplace, orundertakeapprenticeships. Ourstaff commits to usingstrategies andinterventions to supportstudents inaccumulating creditsand skills leading to ahigh school diploma andpersonal growth.
Scarborough Centre for Alternative Studies (SCAS) is a dualtrack school that offers educational opportunities to learners (21and over) in our Adult Program and to young adults (18 -20) inour EdVance Program. Our school provides opportunities for ourlearners to achieve their future career goals in different ways: * prepare for further post-secondary education or training * improve skills for employment * earn a high school diplomaWe offer a variety of courses at all levels for students to obtaintheir high school diploma without the burden of tuition. We are located at 720 Midland Ave, south of Eglinton, closeto Kennedy Subway Station.
PROGRAMSAll courses are credit granting andmay be applied towards thecompletion of an Ontario SecondarySchool diploma (OSSD). Eachcourse is taken for 2 hours per dayfor 45 days. A student can take up to3 courses per day. Along with hairstyling and carpentry there are also packaged programs in ESL,Medical Office Administration and Canadian Job ExperienceCo-operative Education.

HAIRSTYLING For Adult students (21 and over) we also have pre-apprenticeshipprograms. In the Hair Styling Program students can qualify tobecome hair stylist apprentices while earning high school credits.This program is a full year program running from September to June
CARPENTRYThe Fix-It Shop is an 18 week pre-apprenticeship Carpentryprogram. Students achieving 70% are accepted into the carpenters'union. Carpentry students earn high school credits. It has limitedenrolment. The Fix-it Shop is located off-site at 2470 Lawrence Ave.East (in David and Mary Thompson C.I.) Phone: 396-6992 for moreinformation.
CO-OP (Adults and EdVance)Our co-op programs are vibrant and offer rich working experiencesto students transitioning to the workplace. We have establishedrelationships with a number of employers who take on our studentsto mentor and train them. Our students leave the co-op placementwith a new confidence about their marketability and readiness forthe workplace.
EDVANCE HAIRSTYLINGStudents under 21 may take grades 11 and 12 courses in Hairstyling in the EdVance program andjoin the adult program when they reach 21.

Student Life - Where You Belong
Our staff is committed to providing students withco-curricular and social activities that they need to enhancetheir experience at SCAS. We take much of our directionform student input arising from regular student forums andfrom our student council.
What Sets Us Apart
We are a Quadmestered re-entry program with 4 entrypoints. Students are able to earn up to 12 credits per yearto accelerate credit accumulation and to move towardsgraduation.
Parent and Community Engagement
Our students are adults and are therefore responsible forrepresenting themselves; however, we recognize that a supportivefamily is important to success. parents should speak to theirchildren about providing the school with written permission tocommunicate.
Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice,access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
