Scanner JULY 2019 Vol. 33/No. 3 SALEM REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER NEW BOARD MEMBERS SRMC’s Board of Directors welcomed two new members as of July 1, 2019: William Young, Ed.D. and Michael Sevilla, M.D. Dr. William Young has been a part of the United Local Schools’ community and administrative team since 1998, and currently serves as the district’s High School Principal. He brings strong leadership expertise to SRMC’s Board and has been a member of the SRMC Foundation’s Community Advisory Panel since 2018. A graduate of Youngstown State University, Dr. Young holds a Bachelor of Music Education, Master’s in Educational Administration and Doctorate of Educational Leadership. Beyond his role as a Principal, Bill has taught for the University of Mount Union’s Educational Leadership program and has been actively involved in our local communities through the Salem Boy Scouts, Salem and Kent State Community Bands, New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, United Community Scholarship Foundation, United Wall of Fame Committee and United Athletic Booster Club. Dr. Young is also a past member of the Lisbon Lepper Library Board and the Beaver Creek Presbyterian Church Camp Board. He and his wife Molly have two children and reside in Hanoverton. He previously served on the Board, including as the Chief of Medical Staff from 2008-2010. Since 2001, Dr. Sevilla has been a member of the Family Practice Center of Salem, Inc. and SRMC’s Medical Staff. He received his Medical Degree from the Northeast Ohio Medical University, and completed his Family Medicine residency at Summa Barberton Hospital. Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Sevilla also currently serves as Vice President of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Sevilla is interviewed frequently by Youngstown television stations about health topics, and he is also a popular national speaker on the topics of medicine and social media. Dr. Sevilla lives in Salem with his wife Christine. Michael Sevilla, M.D. Online Bill Pay Moves to Patient Portal Effective August 1, SRMC is making a change to how our patients will access the secure online bill pay service when making a payment by credit card. Patients will need to provide an email address to staff and enroll in the Patient Portal in order to access their account online. The Patient Portal is available on the SRMC web site at www.salemregional.com, and currently allows patients to view portions of their medical records online. As of August 1, patients will also be able to pay their bill online through the Portal. A similar change is planned for the SCH Professional Corporation’s online bill pay service, for patients treated at the outreach medical offices and provider services managed by this Corporation. Go to www.salemregional.com to learn more about these new online bill pay features and how to enroll in the Patient Portals for SRMC and/or the SCH Professional Corporation. As of August 1, Outpatient Procedures will move from its current location in the Bone and Joint Center to a renovated section of the former OB unit. The new Outpatient Procedures area will be open Mondays and Fridays from 7 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. This service is being relocated as we plan for the arrival of new orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Jason Boyd, who will join Dr. Dominic Peters, Dr. Lee Simon and the staff of Salem Orthopaedic Surgery in September. NEW BOARD MEMBERS SRMC’s Board of Directors welcomed two new members as of July 1, 2019: William Young, Ed.D. and Michael Sevilla, M.D.

Online Bill PayMoves to

Patient Portal Effective August 1, SRMC is making a change to how our patients will access the secure online bill pay service when making a payment by credit card. Patients will need to provide an email address to staff and enroll in the Patient Portal in order to access their account online.

AUXILIARY ACCOMPLISHMENTS

SRMC Auxiliary members celebrated another successful year of fundraising and installed 2019-2020 officers during their annual May Luncheon. Thanks to their dedication and hard work, the Auxiliary presented a gift of $9,700 to the hospital.

The donation reflects this year’s Auxiliary fundraising efforts and monies generated by SRMC’s Look Nook Gift Shop, and will be used to purchase equipment to enhance patient care and comfort at SRMC.

Wound Healing Center Earns National Award SRMC’s Wound Healing Center (WHC) has earned the prestigious Healogics 2018 “Center of Distinction” award for demonstrating continued clinical excellence in wound healing and superior patient satisfaction rates. Cassandra Hoopes, BSN, RN-BC- Was a staff nurse at Akron City Hospital for the past five years, which included positions on the trauma-surgical and respiratory medical-surgical units and a role as Nurse Practice Council Chair for 2 ½ years. Has also served as a clinical instructor for the University of Akron and home care nurse.

- Holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kent State University and Board Certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Swing Bed CoordinatorMelissa Dwyer, BSN, RN - Assists with special projects related to the hospital’s risk management, continuous quality improvement and transitional care services. Will aid SRMC departments with The Joint Commission accreditation process.

- For 13 years, served in a variety of nursing leadership roles at SRMC, including five years as Clinical Director/Program Manager of SRMC’s Behavioral Medicine & Wellness Center. Melissa returns to SRMC after serving as the Director of Quality and Risk Management for Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley.

- Received Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kent State University.
