Therefore, the identity, maintenance and inspection status of equipment, is critically important. Brady Scafftag ® Visual Tagging System 1 Gin wheels: To be secured on load bearing couplers with Safe Working Load clearly marked: LOAD NOT TO EXCEED 50kg 2 Guard Rails: Double (upper and lower) guardrails are required on all working lifts to prevent falls. The upper guardrail should be fixed at a minimum height of 950mm. The lower guardrail should also be fixed with the gap between the guardrails and the toe board not exceeding 470mm. 3 Toe boards: Should be fixed to all boarded platforms where there is a risk of material or a person falling. Toe boards should have a minimum height of 150mm, the gap between the top of the toe board and the lower guard rail should not exceed 470mm. 4 Boarding: The board-end transoms should be placed so that the board overhang is at least 50mm (approximately one board diameter) and does not exceed four times the thickness of the board. 5 Transoms: Are required at intermediate positions to support the boards. The maximum spacing of these intermediate transoms depends on the working load of the scaffold and the 'target span' quoted by the supplier or manufacturer. 6 Sheeting: Of any kind e.g. plastic sheets, tarpaulin, debris netting and brick guards that are subject to wind loading should NOT be installed unless they are cited in the relevant TG20 compliance sheet or approved scaffold design. 7 Standards: Centres dependent upon duty use specified in TG20. 8 Lift heights: TG20 compliance sheets in the Operational Guide are suitable for scaffolding with lift heights up to 2.0m and for base lift up to 2.7m maximum for safe pedestrian passage. The TG20 eGuide offers designs for lift heights up to 3.0m but scaffolds with features falling outside industry standards may require a specific scaffold design. 9 Suitable types of ties: Should be selected and installed as per a TG20 compliance sheet or approved scaffold design, with a minimum of 5% tested, to ensure the scaffold remains structurally stable. 10 Ledger joints: Not more than one third into a bay and be staggered throughout i.e. not in adjacent bays or lifts. Standard joints: Joints in standards should be staggered, so that adjacent standards are not joined within the same lift level. Standard/ledgers/guardrails: Fixed with right angle couplers. Base plates: Scaffold standards should be founded on a base plate 150mm x 150mm on plan. Sole boards: TG20 specifies these should be at least 0.1m 2 , with no dimension less than 220mm, and a thickness of at least 36mm (typically this will be achieved with a 450mm x 225mm x 38mm thick scaffold board). Scaffold Inspection GuideWithout the latest information, people are prone to make assumptions. Assumptions can lead to potentially damaging decisions made, both for your employees and your business. Therefore, the identity, maintenance and inspection status of equipment, is critically important.

All scaffolding, working platforms and edge protection should be inspected: Before being used for the fi rst time;

Following signifi cant alteration;

Within seven days of the previous inspection;

Following adverse weather or any event likely to have affected its strength or stability such as overloading.
