Thought for the Week: “Along with success comes a reputation for
wisdom.” Euripides
Dear Parents, Families and Community Members,
Our NAPLAN testing is well underway with our year 3 and 5 students
working hard to do their best. Well done, boys and girls.
Fun events
• This Friday the Student Forum has asked if we can have a
dress in your “ Pyjamas Day” to celebrate the end of NAPLAN. There will be a parade and a prize will be given to one junior and one senior student. Have fun and keep warm!
• Next week sees our first Assembly for this term taking place with the seniors presenting an item. We hope all families and
friends can attend. The Assembly will be followed by open classrooms and a shared morning tea.
Buses
• Please ensure you notify the bus drivers if your child will not be on the bus.
• Please take care when picking up children and do not cut in front of buses. We would appreciate you walking around, over the lawn near the admin block and to the after-school
seating area.
Parent Roster
At the P&C meeting held on Monday, it was mentioned that some parents would like to assist in the school but were not included in
the roster and some parents made mention they were required a little too many times which didn’t fit into their busy lives. Apologies for this.

Students will be given a certificate and a small reward when they reach each target.
Any enquires please see Miss Monty or Mrs. Frewen
I have included a sheet with this newsletter which shows available
sessions and would ask that you fill in times which suit you for the rest of the term. If we get too many people on one day and not
enough on another I will phone parents individually to discuss times.
Please return this sheet to me by Friday.
Camp
A BIG thank you to the P&C for subsidizing the year 4-6 camp. Due to this, the cost has been cut by almost half.
Attendance
Please spend some time reading the section below regarding
attendance which was sent via our Regional Office.
Have a lovely week and I hope to see everyone at the assembly next Tuesday.
Kind Regards
Diana Frewen

ATTENDANCE- The impact of persistent absences
Regular attendance is a learned behaviour. Children learn from an early age that punctuality and ‘showing
up’ are expectations that people have of us in various social circumstances. When children engage in
activities outside of school - such as sport, employment or even going to the movies - arriving on time is
regarded as essential.
Attendance patterns are established in the early years of school. Disparities in attendance rates are carried
into and become wider in secondary school. These patterns are evident in the early years of schooling and
are established or set by Year 3.
Many parents hold the belief that children will not be adversely affected by missing school. Parents would
benefit from understanding what normal attendance looks like, and to hear the consistent message that
every day that their child misses school will have consequences for their learning and achievement.
Being half an hour late to school each day from Year 1 to Year 10 is
approximately equivalent to missing one year of schooling.
The following highlights non-attendance over time. The cumulative effect of persistent non-
attendance over the period of compulsory schooling.

NAPLAN
NAPLAN has commenced this week for
year 3’sand 5’s. Mrs Frewen and Miss
Jackson have been working on NAPLAN
testing practice with students to help
them prepare for the Numeracy and
Literacy tests. We know and trust that
the students will try their Personal Best
in all areas and all testing will continue
up until Thursday.
Senior Room Assembly
The senior room Assembly will be happening on
the 19th of May and we are all excited about our
item. We have been practising and look forward
to seeing parents and other family members on
the day.
Hockey Clinic
On Friday the 8th of May, Salmon
Gums and Grass Patch Schools
participated in our school Hockey
Clinic. It was run by Neesha (who
is an ex hockey player and comes
from Britain) and Amanda (a local
hockey umpire). The ladies taught
the students many skills for sport
and hockey such as balance,
catching, throwing, running,
dribbling, passing and many more
skills. It was great to see all of the
kids getting involved and showing
off their super hockey skills.
CONGRATULATIONS
Toby and Bevan on
becoming last fortnights
DOJO Winners. These
boys have consistently
shown exceptional Mutual
Respect and Attentive
Listening. Keep it up boys.
Pen Licences
We have been working towards earning pen
licences this term and the first student to
receive their pen licence is Riley.

need to consistently demonstrate a high
standard of neatly presented work.
