A public hearing wi ll be con- ducted during the Nov. 12 meeting. The boundaries will be defined. The public will be able to ask questidnB about the zones and their ramtfications. Property owners in enter- prise zones can ask for tax abatements. Tax abatements would not reduce tax on exist- ing values. Abatements can only be given for propertyvalut! increases above the · existing values. Tfie council adopted the resolution with a 4-0-1 vote. Councilman Lynn Goble ab- stained. , Councilman Chris Lopez abstained on one of the next two votes that affected the medical clinic. The council voted unani- mo usly to appoint Ben Linton as the city's representat ive in attempting to acquire the Ab- ernathy Medical Clinic build- ing from Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. Lopez abstained when a vote was offered to have t.he city pay bu i lding maintenance, ut il ities, janitorial expenses, etc., on a year-to-year basis if the building was donated to Abernathy EMS. The other four councilmen voted for the motion. In other business, the coun- ci l was in total agreement to adopt a resoiution that states Grant Works, Inc., wi ll be used to acquire grants for the city. Va.riance requests by Clyde Vandygriff and Mike Grims- ley for carports were unani- mously granted. The city re- ceived no responses from nearby property owners that objected to the carports. An $8,727 check from Uni- versity Medical Center will be divided as bonuses among Ab- ernathy EMS vo lunteers that were active members of the service as of Jan. 1, 200 1. Rosie. Council votes to create enterprise zones, accept medical clinic building

cil passed a resolution Monday night that could cr.eate enter­prise zones in Abernathy.

A public hearing wi ll be con­ducted during the Nov. 12 meeting. The boundaries will be defined. The public will be able to ask questidnB about the zones and their ramtfications.

Property owners in enter­prise zones can ask for tax abatements. Tax abatements would not reduce tax on exist­ing values. Abatements can only be given for propertyvalut! increases above the · existing values.

Tfie council adopted the resolution with a 4-0-1 vote. Councilman Lynn Goble ab-stained. ,

Councilman Chris Lopez abstained on one of the next two votes that affected the medical clinic.

The council voted unani­mously to appoint Ben Linton as the city's representative in attempting to acquire the Ab­ernathy Medical Clinic build­ing from Covenant Hospital in

K McKinnon picked up a big chunk of hi s 175-yard 30-carry night on the next play. H e scampered 64 yards before Fu lle r's long strides chased him down a t the FHS 6 . He had 97 yards on 7 carries in the third period alone.

Abe rnathy called time-out at 2:35 on third and goal a t the 9. Pierce ca me out with a 9-ya rd TO pass to Trey Paden . Pierce's PAT pass to Padcn.wa s knocked down, leaving th e Lopes ahead, 20-16.

Arturo Trevino's fumble re­covery on Floydada's second play of the Winds ' next dri ve gave the Lopes possess ion at the FHS 40. Time expired with AHS on the Winds ' 29.

The Lopes totaled 101 yards on 12 third quarter carries while Pierce passed [or another 47. Helms got away once for a 40-yHrd~·un , helping the Winds t o 63 ya rd s on 7 carries , Floydada 's bes t quarter rush­ing.
