SBTDC Overview
The Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) is North Carolina’s leading resource for growing and developing businesses.
Since 1984, the SBTDC has helped over 100,000 North Carolina business owners and prospective entrepreneurs make better decisions—often leading to increased revenue and employment.
IBD Overview
The SBTDC’s International Business Development (IBD) team assists small and mid-sized businesses with export planning and exporting.
Our goal is to increase the number of mid-sized businesses that are exporting and to assist existing small business exporters in expanding their foreign markets.
IBD Counseling
IBD counselors are highly experienced; Certified Global Business Professionals.
We strive to become “trusted advisors” to companies that have requested counseling services from the SBTDC in order to improve and grow their businesses.

SKEMA’s foreign campuses all have the same objective: combining academic and professional experience at an international level. At SKEMA, the international, real-world experience of students involves more than just spending time abroad. These future leaders must also come into direct contact with another culture and participate in internships with local businesses.
SBTDC – SKEMA Relationship – Overview
Started in 2016 when former Dean of SKEMA USA invited Alex Viva to lunch to discuss curriculum of IB Courses in the BBA and MSc Programs
Focus was to enhance overall international business and global entrepreneurship competency required of students working in the profession or studying for a career related to global commerce.
Having completed this curriculum, students should be prepared to sit for, and pass the CGBP exam.
NASBITE CGBP
The NASBITE CGBP designation demonstrates an individual’s ability to conduct global business at the professional level required in today’s competitive environment.

IBD Summer Internship – OverviewThe IBD summer internship is designed to enhance overall international business and global entrepreneurship competency required of individuals working in the profession or studying for a career related to global commerce.
Costs $7,500 (2 interns x $10/hour for 320 hours plus travel funds) and meets all Student Visa Requirements
Having completed this internship, the student should be prepared to sit for, and pass the CGBP exam.
IBD Summer Internship – Learning Objectives
This internship facilitates “learning transfer” by:
1. Expanding the student’s counseling competency including knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to become a “trusted advisor” to client-companies.
2. Clarifying the student’s understanding and increasing their mastery of international business and global entrepreneurship concepts in settings outside the physical classroom.
IBD Summer Internship – Client Assignments
Interns are given seven client-companies for the summer:
• Two cases each with individual responsibility
• Three cases jointly with shared responsibility
Pre-engagement, the interns reviewed the case files with the lead IBD counselor (CGBP) to gain a thorough understanding of the business model, critical issues, recommendations, and next steps.
