WINTER COLOR GUARD @ NESBA WINTER COLOR GUARD CHAMPIONSHIPS 3/31/18: A huge congratulation to our Winter Color Guard for an outstanding conclusion to their competition season on Saturday at Salem High

School! In the Scholastic Regional “A” Division, the guard received a score of 92.73 for their performance of their show “Writer’s Block”

earning them the silver medal and a second place finish just .2 of a point out of first place. The members of the guard include Sorelle

Alzaibak, Emily Belisle, Abigail Botelho, Autumn DeSa, Tiago Silva, Sydney Wood and Captain Jillian Cabral. Again, congratulations to

the Color Guard for a fabulous season! #WritersBlock

SATV ON MONDAY MORNING DURING S-BLOCK: All music students should check their email before Monday Morning. Those students that do not have a signed Photograph-Video-Media Consent Forms have an email requesting that you bring those in on Monday as SATV will be here on Monday during S-Block to shoot footage for a segment on public access about the music department's trip to Disney. Without that form you will not be able to participate and will be given a separate assignment while the footage is shot. The form is included in this announcement.

SPRING POPS NIGHT – 7:00 PM ON 4/4/18 STARTING IN THE GYM & MOVING TO THE PAC: The music department will be holding their Annual Spring Pops Night on Wednesday, April 4 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The concert will start in the gym featuring the Winter Hornline, Winter Color Guard, and Winter Percussion Ensemble. Then the concert will move to the Performing Arts Center starting with the Jazz Band, followed by performances by the "Amplified" and "Electrify" Show Choirs. Please come and support the music department by attending this amazing night of music! We hope you enjoy this full performance experience! See you on April 4th!

MISS SAIGON TECH CREW SIGN-UPS THIS WEEK: There are several available tech positions that are still needed for the drama department’s production of “Miss Saigon”. Descriptions of those positions are listed in the band room. If you are interested in being assigned one of those tech positions, please sign-up in the band room and show up for the 10-minute informational meeting that will be held in the band room on Friday, April 6, 2018 immediately afterschool. The meeting will not be very long and positions will be assigned at that time by Mr. Marshall and Mr. Bianco. You must be at that meeting to receive a tech position assignment. DISNEY TRIP UPDATES: 1. MANDATORY FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS AND PARENTS

Pre-Trip Meeting Date – Final Meeting with World Class Vacations will take place on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 @ 7:00 p.m. in the SBRHS Performing Arts Center. All participants and parents should plan to be there to receive all of the last minute, important details for the trip.

2. DISNEY ENSEMBLES REHEARSAL SCHEDULE AND LUGGAGE / MEDICATION DROP-OFF FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS – APRIL 19, 2018 All students should arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled rehearsals for luggage drop-off and rehearsal preparations. Adults

and Family members going on the trip can drop-off their luggage anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. or send it in with their

student musician. Additionally, all students should be prepared to stay 30 minutes after conclusion of their scheduled rehearsal to

help pack equipment for the ensemble.

CONTRACT

Please print and return to the Music Department as soon as possible or by October 13th, 2017 with your first payment. Student Name ............................................................ Instrument/Guard ............................................... I hereby acknowledge and accept the following rules regarding the 2018 Disney Trip. I agree to abide by these rules and all other policies which have been adopted or may be adopted in the future by the Music department regarding this event. I understand that the policies of the Somerset Berkley Music Department presented earlier in the year (and approved by the Somerset Berkley School Committee) will be adhered to. I also promise that I will: 1. Learn all music/drill/routines to the best of my ability. 2. Attend all rehearsals and performances on time. An Excused Absence Form must accompany all absences and be

presented to your director 2 weeks ahead of time. Any failure to attend a rehearsal or continued absences without good reason may constitute grounds for exclusion.

3. Cooperate fully with chaperones and all other administrative officials. 4. Neither use nor have in my possession at any time alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, illegal drugs or any substances

forbidden per the SBRHS Student Handbook. 5. Stay in designated housing facility throughout the duration of the Trip. 6. Not request a room change. 7. Not be in an unassigned room without the permission of a chaperone. 8. Not use the Hotel Room telephones except in case of an emergency. 9. Not participate in pranks or vandalism of any kind. If I damage any property, my parents and/or I will assume full financial

responsibility. (Damage to any Hotel Room may be assessed equally among those students assigned to the room). 10. Be in my assigned room at curfew time and remain in my assigned room until wake-up time (unless I am otherwise

granted permission by an assigned chaperon). 11. Conduct myself courteously and appropriately at all times. 12. It is understood that I signed this contract that I plan to be part of this Trip. The cost of the trip is based on 200

participants. Therefore, any change in this number will increase the price of the trip divided among the remaining students.

13. Abide by all decisions made by appropriate Music Instructors / Officials and obey all regulations listed above as well as any other regulations which may be implemented in the future by the group leaders.

14. Dress in an appropriate manner. No questionable attire will be allowed. I understand that membership in the Somerset Berkley Regional High School music department is a privilege and that membership will be forfeited if I fail to comply with any of the above rules. If it is necessary that I be sent home from Disney, my parents and school officials will be notified, and my parents will be asked to provide immediate transportation home. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

1. All instrumentalists will be asked to perform a prepared solo, 1 – 2 minutes in length, which best exhibits

your prowess and talent on your instrument. This solo can be of any style but should be a challenging solo

equal in difficulty to a district level piece.

2. All instrumentalists will be required to sight-read a short selection from either the musical or a passage similar

in style to the show’s score.

3. THIS IS THE ONLY DATE FOR AUDITIONS!!! MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE IF YOU ARE NOT!!!

We need to know what instruments we will not have for the show in order to start to hire professional sit-ins.

Therefore we need to know immediately what our student instrumentation is! For students with scheduling

difficulties, I will try to help by allowing you to audition either earlier or later, depending upon your schedule.

However, you must audition after school on Monday January 26, 2018!

ALL ACCEPTED STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO MAKE ALL REHEARSALS WITH THE

EXCEPTION OF LEGITIMATE 2 WEEK OR EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION.

rehearsals.

In charge of the prop crew and makes sure that all props are in their proper location and ready for each scene.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

1. NESBA Badges are not valid at this event. All non-participants must have a ticket or pay at the gate. Parent Helpers will be provided with the extra wristbands and tickets that we have. WE MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH WRISTBANDS OR TICKETS FOR ALL HELPERS! PLEASE BE PREPARED TO PAY ADMISSION IF NECESSARY!!! Admission to the event is $15.

2. Please make arrangements to bring food/snack (healthy food, i.e. fruits, sandwiches and water) and bring money for concession (LUNCH and DINNER) at the Show Choir and/or NESBA show! Some members may only have time to eat during transit. Please check the schedule to plan for yourself. Percussion / Guard students that are not in Show Choir Pit Band will need money to eat at a restaurant in the Waltham area before returning to SBRHS.

3. There will be NO VIDEOTAPING allowed at this event.

4. There will be NO GROUP PHOTOS taken by a professional photographer at this event. I will however, provide multiple opportunities to take pictures of each group to commemorate the event!
