Paint fingernails/play cards or board games at a retirement home Buy a large box of cupcakes and deliver them one at a time to people who serve us: (a policeman, barista, grocery clerk, garbage man, crossing guard, bus driver, etc. Clean up trash along the roadway, beach, park, highway (please wear orange vests) Buy a bunch of $1 umbrellas at the dollar store then take them to bus stops with fun notes that say something like “Finders Keepers – God Bless You!” Collect a bunch of blankets then distribute them to the homeless Make PB & J sandwiches as a group then distribute them to the homeless Put together birthday goodie bags to distribute to women’s shelters (women leave domestic violence situations with their kids and the clothes on their backs – birthdays get forgotten) Spend a day writing thank you letters to members of the military thanking them for their service Fort Lewis can mail them. Do yardwork on houses in Prairie Ridge (Bonney Lake area) There are a lot of very low income seniors living there who need help with their yards. (Kathy Saunders can make the arrangements) Go with your life group to give blood Feed homeless people at the Tacoma Rescue Mission Volunteer for a day at your local food bank Collect new or gently used board games and deliver to the Dolphin After School program for low income – struggling kids (at Daffodil Elementary) Call Pierce County Habitat for Humanity and schedule a day to serve as a group (you will need to take their 1 hr orientation a week or two beforehand) Spend a day collecting books from your friends and neighbors then donate them to your local library (many families have turned off their cable / internet and the library’s free rental of books and movies are their source of entertainment. Plus the library’s budget has been cut.) Find a non-profit and ask if they need any projects done / maybe collect money to purchase paint and paint for them! Collect toiletry items and put “kits” together and deliver to homeless shelters Do a neighborhood food drive and deliver to the local food bank. Create snack/activity packs for families at the “Tree House” at Mary Bridge in Tacoma. One gallon food storage bags with items like fruit cups, granola bars, trail mix, chewing gum – maybe add a book or puzzle and pen. Parents and children spend a lot of time at the hospital and this gives them a snack and something to do without having to spend money at the cafeteria.
