NEW President’s Message
I’m pleased to report that the PPA has experienced some significant growth over the past year! First, I would like to congratulate Tom
Matthews of the Lancaster Parking Authority on his well deserved retirement at the end of 2010. With his recent departure from PPA, I was elected as the new President at the conference this past fall. I’m looking forward to serving the organization and contributing to new areas of growth we have planned for this year.
We have some exciting new things in place for the year, including great educational topics for the Spring Training and Fall Conference. Thank you for this opportunity to serve the association as President and please feel free to reach out with any new ideas. We’re always looking for more people to get involved.

SAVE THE DATE!
Conference Wrap-Up – The Pennsylvania Parking Association hosted our annual conference in State College, PA from September 29th through October 1st. The conference was well attended by exhibitors and members, faithful friends and new faces.
The conference kicked off Wednesday morning with the annual Fender Bender Open golf tournament at the Elks Country Club. It was a chilly start, but eventually the sun came through, and the golfers were in fierce competition for the coveted hubcap trophies. That evening, a reception of exhibits, cocktails and networking officially kicked off the conference. The networking hour offered plenty of opportunities to be introduced to new contacts and catch up with old colleagues.
The conference covered educational presentations such as land development related to parking, taxes as a risk to the parking industry, merchant processing, and capital project financing options.
The 10th Annual Awards Banquet featured an elegant dinner and awards program to recognize the latest industry innovations and designs. The program featured numerous projects throughout the country by firms located in Pennsylvania (see pages 3-4).
The conference wrapped up Friday morning with a session on First Observer Training by the Department of Homeland Security.
A special thanks to all the members, sponsors, and exhibitors who continue to make the PPA a vibrant organization with a successful conference. We look forward to seeing you all again this fall in Bethlehem.

PPA hosted our 10th Annual Parking Innovation Awards Banquet, a highlight of the conference each year. Traditionally on Thursday night, we gather for cocktails, dinner, and the presentation of award winners! The program recognizes leaders in the parking industry for their creativity in design and innovation. The competition draws a good turn-out of submissions from around the country, completed by firms in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Award of Excellence Winners are highlighted to the left, along with the entries for each category.
Parking Innovation Awards Banquet Fender Bender Open
The annual Fender Bender Open brought golfers together on Wednesday morning at the Elks Country Club just outside of State College. After this year’s friendly competition, we will begin an investigation into the High Concrete team, which has won consecutively for years. If anyone has information on this investigation, please let us know!
The winning team this year consisted of Jamie Sweigart (High Concrete), AJ Sassaman (High Concrete), Jim Fenstermacher (Whiting Turner), and Adrienne Fessler (TimHaahs). We know it was not Adrienne carrying the team, as it was her 2nd time golfing. And yet they still managed to “win”. They’re looking forward to someone challenging their championship once again in the fall!
