Sharing Christmas Traditions:When my brothers and I were growing up, my Mom made sure that our focus each Christmas was on God’s ultimate gift of His Son - every year, we each baked and decorated our own birthday cake for Jesus. (With 3 of us, that meant a lot of cake to eat!) My older brother always made a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and I made a white cake with white frosting decorated with a miniature manger scene. When my little brother came along, he got to make a marble cake. On Christmas morning we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus!

- Colleen Zufall

On Christmas Eve, all five of us kids

would get into our pj’s.

My mom made hot chocolate. After getting comfortable in the living room, my mother would read the Bible to us. It was always the story of Mary and Joseph, Mary’s pregnancy, the long trip to Bethlehem and the miraculous birth. My mom made the story come alive for us! Then, my dad would let us each pick ONE present to open. I am 62 years old. I continued the tradition with my 3 kids. I still read that story every Christmas Eve.

- Lynda Boyd

We make homemade Christmas cards and include a whimsical photo. And yes the 21 year-old and 17 year-old still get together with us to make them and we each sign every single one in love. We actually missed a year and learned by all the phone calls just how much our friends and family look forward to getting them in the mailbox.

- Melody Harrington

The first year we were married we had no money for ornaments so we decorated sugar cookies and hung them on our tree. For forty years our tree has had decorated cookies on it. Through the years it was fun to watch the creativity of our kids and now grandkids as they sit and decorate the cookies and then marvel at their creations on the tree.

- Mary Steele

Traditions can be large or small, thoughtful or just plain fun. But when they are done with the right heart it can strengthen the family bond and connect generations. Check out some of the amazing Christmas traditions shared by our listeners.

I buy my son an ornament every year since he was born and I write the date on it and when he got married and got his own place he had 30+ ornaments to decorate his tree — I still buy him and his wife each an ornament every Christmas.

- Maggie Hettler

My favorite Christmas tradition is having the entire family gather on Christmas Eve to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life.” And then putting on our coats to drive to church for the 11:00 P.M. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service so that we can all celebrate the birth of Christ together; and get to wish each other and our church family, a very Merry Christmas. Such a Blessing!

- Pamela Vandermey-Collins

Every December my family and I get together to bake Christmas cookies. We all bring our favorite recipes and create them from scratch. We bake so many cookies so that we’re able to share and disperse them amongst our family and friends and coworkers. We have a family recipe book that we add to that consists of the recipes and pictures from the event. It’s a great way to spend time with one another and create wonderful memories.

- Judith Hatch

The Salvation Army has a Christmas stocking charity where you go and pick up empty stockings, fill them with age appropriate items and bring it back, and then it gets delivered to a local needy child. We pick up 10 stockings a boy and girl for each age group and then Thanksgiving weekend we shop together for our items to fill our stockings. We have so much fun helping each other find just the right item for each stocking. Then we laugh at each other as we try and stuff too many items in the stockings.

FALL PLEDGE DRIVE

Every day, K-LOVE offers an incredible message of hope to thousands of listeners across our nation. With our annual Fall Pledge Drive, listeners are given the opportunity to help continue this message of hope by donating a portion of their income, while also making a positive difference in the lives of those in need.

On September 30th we partnered with Operation Warm to reach out to families all across America that are struggling to provide their basic needs. Operation Warm helped to inspire listeners to financially support K-LOVE by involving a generous donor who would provide a coat for every $40.00 EZ gift donation.

Together we helped relieve the burden of poverty and brought the gift of warmth to children in need through a warm coat. Sometimes it’s the seemingly little things that make the biggest difference!

Participating in the K-LOVE Pledge Drive reminds us of the big picture of why we’re here. This year, because of the generous support we received, 32,401 children received a brand new coat! Your support is a continual blessing to the ministry of K-LOVE, and we thank God for each and every one of you.32,401

Don Jacobson, co-creator of “It’s a God Thing volume 2,” joined us live on myKLOVE for an evening of reflection. 700 people gathered together on a live video chat inside myKLOVE. Attendees had a chance to ask questions and get involved in the discussion real-time. We were all reminded that God is moving in our everyday lives and we are all part of the story that God is telling.

Every January, we challenge our audience to listen solely to Christian music for 30 days straight to see how God will work in their lives. Our hope is that through this challenge, you, our listeners will grow deeper in your walk with Christ and receive the impactful blessing this experience can have.

This January will mark the fifth anniversary of our 30 Day Challenge, and the stories we are hearing back from our listeners everyday who have joined in the challenge have been amazing! They have seen God move powerfully in their lives and want to share the excitement with others.

The 30 Day Challenge is a chance for K-LOVE listeners to put their faith in something greater than themselves — to allow Christian music to inspire, encourage, and uplift them in their daily walk.

““

Thank you soooo much! I took the 30-day challenge and no longer listen to anything else. The other night,

I re-dedicated myself to Jesus. Several songs in a row spoke to me and drove me to my knees in prayer.

Amazing Grace, started it, followed by Let Them See You In Me and I Am Loved (not sure I got all the titles

right! LOL). I felt God was speaking directly to me and I knelt, prayed and worshiped Him. Since then, I have

a sense of peace, calm and hope that I’ve never felt before. Thank you K-LOVE and all of the wonderful artists

for leading me to such a priceless blessing! — TRACEY

In August of 2013 I decided to start listening to K-LOVE, taking the challenge I wasn’t even aware existed.

The music is beyond moving and I find myself connected to these songs every time I hear them. It’s not

background noise; it’s become a way of life. A prayer with music is what they really are. It’s been over a year

and my transformation from who I was; to who I am now are two different people. Thank you to everyone

who does the pledge drives; this station has changed our lives. The most rewarding feeling as a mother …

Hearing your 6, 4, and 2 year olds singing songs word for word, hearing “this is my song!” Or “mommy, this

is your favorite song!” Thank you K-LOVE and your supporters! — Jessica

Last January, I took your challenge. It was a time of spiritual turbulence. As I

became more inspired and encouraged, found myself becoming more “faith

stepping”. When I lost my job in the spring, it was the music that kept me

praying. Then a blessing came, my husband and I went on a co-ed retreat.

They played and sung some of the very songs of inspiration. “Faith stepping”

became stronger, with my husband with me. Suddenly a wonderful job came!

3 months later my son went on his retreat; he now reads daily devotionals with

us, and listens to K-LOVE. I have also picked up my guitar again to keep the

gift of spiritual singing alive. It truly made our lives spiritually rich. We

have supported K-LOVE, so others can be encouraged to “faith

step”. In one year, our “bad habits” have become less

important as we find more God time, with new friends

and family. Thank you, keep doing what you do!

— Jessica

Brandon Heath’s new song, “No Turning Back,” came out of his experiences as a kid attending Christian camps. On one particular day he stood up in front of his peers and told them he was now a follower of Jesus. He remembers that moment clearly almost 20 years ago, which was filled with feelings of excitement as well a nervousness as he proclaimed the fact that now he would be going in a new direction in his life.

The lyrics, “I have decided, I called out His name, I’m following Jesus now and He knows the way,” are both a challenge and bold statement of faith for us to not turn back from all that God has planned!

3 years ago I lost my husband and father of my two children. We started listening to K-LOVE over 2 years ago and my daughter loves K-LOVE. It has helped me when I have gotten discouraged and didn’t really know which way to go. There is not a song that is played that does not touch my heart in some way. On Aug 31, 2014 my daughter accepted Jesus into her heart at the age of 5 years old. I know God has a plan for my children and look forward to every day to see what He is going to do with them next.

This year’s Chicago Marathon Expo was held on October 12th and provided an opportunity to once again present the positive and encouraging message of K-LOVE. Over 45,000 runners made their way through the 26.5 miles in the windy city as family and friends cheered them on – what an amazing ministry opportunity!

Our events team was present to hand out “Run Encouraged” stickers to participating runners and “Run Encouraged” signs to supporters on the sidelines. These supporters wrote quotes and words of love to cheer on the athletes. We were able to meet with both committed listeners and those who had never heard of K-LOVE from all over the world.

Over and over again we were told, “We love K-LOVE, we’re so glad you’re here!” We loved sharing the message of hope and hearing the testimonies of God’s faithfulness. One such testimony was a young man named Peter who came and asked us to pray for him before his race. He had started running years before on behalf of his friend who had been diagnosed with cancer and was no longer able to run himself. His friend is now cancer free – Praise God!

By partnering with The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Team we saw lives touched through the powerful message presented by speaker Ty Gooch and the members of The Vertical Church band who led worship.

It was such an honor to see God using us wherever we go, even in those unexpected places like a marathon.

Jumpstart’s premiere national campaign, “Read for the Record,” is one time of year when millions of individuals come together to celebrate literacy and support Jumpstart in its efforts to promote early childhood education.

On October 21st, K-LOVE partnered with local schools in the San Antonio, Texas area to support this mission that works toward the day when every child in America will enter kindergarten prepared to succeed.

Hundreds of schools choose one book to read as a school to set a record on that particular day. We had the honor of reading to students from Kindergarten to 5th grade and sharing the mission of K-LOVE to our future listening audience.

In the afternoon, our team helped parents and teachers prepare cupcakes for the children that went along with the theme of the book they had just read. We enjoyed serving the community and being a part of shaping children’s futures!
