After accomplish- ment of Sri Akhand Path Sahib in the morning Gurbani Kirtan was recited by the Raagi Jathas and religious scholars threw light on the life history of Guru Nanak Dev. MLC Pradeep Sharma, DDC Poonch Rahul Yadav and SSP Rajiv Pandey were present in the function. BHADARWAH: Like other parts of the country, people of Sikh community from Bhadarwah early in the morning thronged Gurdwaras to participate in the celebration of Guru Nanak Dev's 549th Birth Anniversary on Friday. The main function was organised at Kotli Gurdwara by District Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC) Doda under the supervision of its District President Kartar Singh in which devotees from Bhadarwah and its peripheral areas participat- ed in the special Shabad and Kirtan to pay their obeisance to the first Sikh Guru. The function started with Ardas and singing of hymns from Shri Guru Granth Sahib. It is notable that this fes- tival is celebrated accord- ing to the lunar calendar, on the Kartik Purnima, which has fallen on November 23 this year. Hindu and Muslims also greeted Sikh community on this auspicious occasion. DGPC Doda District Secretary Amreek Singh said, "Guru Nanak Dev's philosophy mainly stressed upon one God-who is cre- ator, sustainer and destroy- er. Goal of human life is to break the cycle of birth and death to merge with God." " Guru Nanak Dev worked for eradication of social evils which had engulfed the society at that time," Singh added. He urged upon people to follow the Guru's teachings and to maintain peace and harmony. "I have come here like every year to pay obeisance to Guru Nanak Dev on his Birth Anniversary. The first Sikh Guru teaches us a clear message of universal broth- erhood, peace, remember- ing God all the time, earn- ing by honest means and sharing with those who are less privileged," said Thakur Chanderpal, a resi- dent of Bhadarwah. On this auspicious occa- sion, Langar was also organised in which Prasad and lunch was distributed among devotees. Meanwhile MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta and Ex MLA Daleep Singh Parihar also participated in the celebra- tion and greeted people on this auspicious occasion of 549th Birth Anniversary of first Sikh Guru and prayed for peace, progress and prosperity of the State. STATE TIMES NEWS NOWSHERA: A meeting of Kissan Sabha was held on Friday at Dandesar in Noushera Sub District where farmers in large number of adjoining areas participated. State President of Kisan Sabha, Hari Chand Jalmeria, was the Chief Guest while Uday Chand presided over the meeting. Speaking on the occasion Jalmeria said that farmers, who comprise over 75 per cent of the country's popu- lation, have been left behind in the race of devel- opment. Neither they get profitable price of their agricultural and allied pro- duce nor their living condi- tions have improved in rural areas at par with urban areas. Most of the agricultural land in the State is Kandi and un-irri- gated. There is least effort to improve irrigation facilities while monkey menace has terrorised farmers result- ing into abandoning of agricultural and horticul- tural activities in many areas. Border area farmers also face problem of uncer- tainty due to intermittent firings. Jalmeria urged upon the Governor to pay attention to these issues. Uday Chand stressed upon proper rehabilitation of those farmers who get disturbed due to firing on borders. He also empha- sised on improving the liv- ing conditions in the rural areas and asked the gov- ernment to put a check on the conversion of agricul- tural land for non-agricul- tural purposes. A 15 member committee headed by Ravi Kumar as President and Pooja Devi as Secretary was constitut- ed. Satnam Singh, Badri Nath, Kewal Krishan, Banwari Lal, Sarita Devi, Sunita Sharma, Swarna Devi, Meenakshi, Anu and Anuradha were elected as other members of the com- mittee. Maski Biradari congregation held Kissan Sabha meeting held STATE TIMES NEWS DODA: Additional District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Hanief Malik, on Friday inaugurated two day Inter division boys and girls cricket tournament organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Sports Stadium Doda. The boys and girls under 19 teams of Jammu Division and Kashmir Division are participating in the tournament. During the inaugural cere- mony, cultural programme by JNV Arnora and Kidz Kingdom School Doda was presented. House gutted in Hajin; Bandipora Admn provides financial assistance of Rs 1.25 lakh STATE TIMES NEWS BANDIPORA: The dis- trict administration Bandipora on Friday pro- vided an immediate cash relief of Rs 1.25 lakh to a family whose house was affected in a fire incident in Hajin earlier during the day. Fire broke out in the single storey residential house of Ghulam Mohammad Dar son of Lassi Dar at Malikpora Hajin. With the help of Fire tenders, Police and local volunteers the fire was put under control. However, the house was fully damaged. Soon after the incident, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary directed the concerned Tehsildar to visit the spot to meet the affected family. On the directions of DC Bandipora, Tehsildar Hajin provided an imme- diate assistance of Rs 1.25 lakh to the affected family. Choudhary said he sent a team of officials lead by Tehsildar Hajin to meet the victims and pro- vide the immediate assis- tance. He assured that the dis- trict administration will take every possible meas- ure to help the victim fam- ily so that they don't suf- fer in coming winters. STATE TIMES NEWS KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan in a high-level meeting on Friday underlined the need to resume traffic on the Srinagar-Kargil Road keep- ing in view the acute short- age of essential commodities in the district. The CEC in a communica- tion to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has stated that the highway is reported to be clear after the recent snow clearance opera- tions and 100 light and heavy vehicles are stranded on both sides of Zojila. Feroz Khan said that the District Administration has deployed men and machinery of Mechanical Division Kargil to assist in the smooth regulation of traffic and the same cooperation needs to be done by the Ganderbal Administration as well. Meanwhile, the CEC con- vened an important meeting of the concerned officers at the Council Secretariat here today in light of the notifica- tion issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir regarding the closure of Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road (Zojila Pass) for all types of vehicular traffic with effect from 22nd of November, 2018 till further notice. Executive Councillor for R&B and Information Nassir Hussain Munshi, Executive Councillor for Tourism PunchoqTashi, Executive Councillor for Health Zakir Hussain, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, Kargil Vikas Kundal, Superintendent of Police Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, Commander 762 BRTF Project Vijayak, SE Mechanical, Kargil, Assistant Director FCS&CA, Depot Manager Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Kargil besides other concerned officers attended the meeting. The CEC and the Executive Councilors while highlighting the shortage of essential commodities in the district in general and Kargil town, in particular, said that the Srinagar- Kargil Road needs to be resumed for vehicular traf- fic without delay. It was given out in the meeting that 100 trucks carrying essential items like Kerosene and high speed diesel (HSD) are still in transit, the road is clear and traffic could be resumed. The CEC said that the Merchant Association Kargil has approached the LAHDC, Kargil and District Administration about the shortage of essen- tial commodities and there is every apprehension of hue and cry among the general public if necessary, steps for resumption of traffic on the highway are not taken in the right earnest. Meanwhile, Commander 762 BRTF Vijayak agreed in principle to keep the road clear up to their jurisdiction Zero Point and also assured to maintain the slippery portion till India Gate in case need arises. The CEC directed the Deputy Commissioner Kargil to maintain close liaison and coordination with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, DC Ganderbal, SSP Ganderbal and SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir for smooth opera- tion of Traffic on the Srinagar Kargil Road. Meanwhile, Superinten- dent of Police Kargil was directed to ensure the deployment of police person- nel on the road stretch from Zero Point up to India Gate to assist in regulation of traffic smoothly. The CEC instructed the SE Mechanical Kargil to keep two JCBs and four trippers loaded with dry soil to spread on the icy portions of the road stretch to avoid skidding of vehicles on the highway. He was further directed to deploy a crane independently at the road stretches to assist the vehic- ular movement smoothly. Feroz Ahmad Khan urged the BSNL authorities to keep the mobile tower at Baltal in complete operation during the movement of traffic at Zojila Pass. The Assistant Director FCS&CA Kargil and Depot Manager IOC Kargil were directed to keep the oil tankers in readiness, which are in transit to move towards Kargil at the earli- est. Assistant Director FCS&CA was further directed to get a list of local trucks from Merchant asso- ciation Kargil to proceed towards Srinagar for get- ting essential commodities. Meanwhile, Feroz Ahmad Khan urged Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to take up the matter for resumption of traffic on the highway with Chief Engineer Beacon, DC Ganderbal and SSP Ganderbal so that the Srinagar- Kargil road remains open for traffic till its closure due to heavy snowfall. CEC Kargil stresses on resumption of traffic on Srinagar-Kargil Road STATE TIMES NEWS SRINAGAR: Forest Department on Friday removed encroachments on forest areas in Khag and Mattan Forests. The Forest Encroachment Eviction drive was carried out in Compartment Nos S 25/S26 near Shinglipora, Khag forests of SPSP Forest Range by the forest officials of Special Forest Division, Tangmarg with the active assistance of Forest Protection Force (FPF) per- sonnel of Gamma unit Tangmarg. About 40 Kanals of encroached forest land were retrieved from the encroach- ers in the operation. Despite stiff resistance from some locals, the operation was car- ried out successfully. In another operation Joint teams of forest officials of Block Logripora assisted by Forest Control Room, Mattan retrieved about 30 kanals of forest land from encroachers in Compartment No 18L of Range Mattan. Forest Territorial Department has intensified its anti-Encroachment oper- ations in Kashmir forests since last few weeks. Five major eviction drives have been carried out by the Department in the last one week alone in Kashmir Region and retrieved hun- dreds of kanals of illegally occupied forest land. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The painting exhibition organised by The Himalayan Avian, a Public Trust for Birds Study and Research, on theme 'Mithu Ki Azadi' concluded here on Friday. A total of two hundreds children from 15 schools were partici- pated and displayed their painting. The exhibition was organ- ized to make people aware about the habits of caging parrots. Rekha of Class 6th of Little Rose High School bagged first prize while Taniya of New Model Public School Satwari got sec- ond prize and three students namely Aman Gill of Class 7th of New Model Public School Satwari, Gurpreet Singh of Class 9th of Army Public School and Suman Devi of Class 9th of GHSS Mandal Phallian shared third prize. Beside, 12 students got consolation prizes. Dr Kuldeep Sharma, Vice President, National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development, Ministry of Women & Child Development, was the Chief Guest. Dr Kuldeep Sharma in his address said that caging birds is against Wildlife Act. "We all should play a vital role to protect environment," he added. Sharma appreciated the work of chil- dren and said that the message should go to every corner that Mithu want to live in free environment. The CEC in a communica-tion to the DivisionalCommissioner Kashmir hasstated that the highway isreported to be clear after therecent snow clearance opera-tions and 100 light andheavy vehicles are strandedon both sides of Zojila.

Feroz Khan said that theDistrict Administration hasdeployed men and machineryof Mechanical DivisionKargil to assist in thesmooth regulation of trafficand the same cooperationneeds to be done by theGanderbal Administrationas well.

Meanwhile, the CEC con-vened an important meetingof the concerned officers atthe Council Secretariat heretoday in light of the notifica-tion issued by the DivisionalCommissioner Kashmirregarding the closure of

Meanwhile, Superinten-dent of Police Kargil wasdirected to ensure thedeployment of police person-nel on the road stretch fromZero Point up to India Gateto assist in regulation oftraffic smoothly.

The CEC instructed theSE Mechanical Kargil tokeep two JCBs and fourtrippers loaded with dry soilto spread on the icy portionsof the road stretch to avoidskidding of vehicles on thehighway. He was furtherdirected to deploy a craneindependently at the roadstretches to assist the vehic-ular movement smoothly.

The Forest EncroachmentEviction drive was carriedout in Compartment Nos S25/S26 near Shinglipora,Khag forests of SPSP ForestRange by the forest officialsof Special Forest Division,Tangmarg with the activeassistance of ForestProtection Force (FPF) per-sonnel of Gamma unitTangmarg.

About 40 Kanals ofencroached forest land wereretrieved from the encroach-ers in the operation. Despitestiff resistance from some

locals, the operation was car-ried out successfully.
