“With God, All Things Are Possible”

In order to see God, a man must fi rst cleanse and empty himself, and stand outside of himself. St. Gregory Palamas

We live, move and have our being in God…For we are also his offspring. Acts 17:28

In our physical world, fi lled with all of the turbulence, rumor-mongering, political upheavals, wars between nations, and hosts

of social inequalities, inequities and injustices, it is sometimes diffi cult to comprehend a possible spiritual core truth in the statement, “with God all things are possible.”

Yet, all major spiritual teachings reference the possibility of a conscious connection to this inner power or presence that is so often called God. The implication is that once we have discovered an internal relationship to that “something” which is bigger, more encompassing than our human and/or personal self, we can move our efforts in the direction of accomplishing “…all things are possible.”

I genuinely suspect that a major stumbling block is that in our human over-identifi cation with form, things, objects and the mundane world as THE manifestation of reality, we get stuck in that perception.

Scientists are now referencing the unifi ed fi eld theory of reality existence (originally proposed by Rupert Sheldrake). Very succinctly, it suggests that everything in our experience of life (air, fi re, earth, water and ether) is interconnected to everything else. Also, our perceptions, our signifi cant thoughts, our deep thought processes, our refl ections and our feelings are available to other people. What we feel can also be felt (and measured) by others who are connected to us somehow, such as our husband (wife), parents, family members and friends, and then, ultimately everyone in the world. As one thinks about this possibility at depth, it helps to explain our sense of being drawn to people of like mind, educators to educators, artists to artists, healers to healers, athletes to athletes, writers to writers, entrepreneurs to entrepreneurs, architects and doctors to other architects and doctors, etc.

This may imply that when we seek for an opportunity to study for a new skill, or develop specifi c kind of business that we desire to accomplish, there are people near at hand who can be accessed for help. If we need to contact a certain individual for assistance with a business plan, or learn how to fi nd specifi c help we need to reach a health goal, overcome a major problem, or seek resolution to some personal emotional, psychological, mental or other type of confl ict, we can fi nd that help (when it is not easily available in our

    Rev. LeRoy Zemke

  • day to day world) from the unifi ed fi eld. One of the many ways this might likely occur would be in the form of intuition, a psychic revelation, or seeing an internal image or series of images (insight) that would lead us toward a workable solution of a specifi c problem in our lives.

In an extremely condensed and perhaps oversimplifi ed manner, the unifi ed fi eld theory suggests that all beings are intrinsically, energetically connected, somewhat like all parts of a spider web are connected to each other. Wherever one might be seeing or applying this image, each part is simultaneously connected to every other part of the web.

Such connection suggests that if we apply this image to mankind, at an energetically based or subtle level, we are connected to all other human beings.

Thus, when we set into motion through a clear, defi nite intention, a deep, focused, consistent desire to become open to, receptive to an idea that we want or need to further a special plan, learn a new skill, develop a new business, or set into motion a new goal of whatever nature, shape or kind, we “send out” an energetic resonance (somewhat like a tuning fork) into the unifi ed fi eld. Resultantly, someone (more often more than one person) will be similarly “attuned” or in resonance to our intention, idea, goal, plan, or desire, etc. As that resonance happens, we are again led through intuition, dreams, psychic revelation or even direct contact with a person, group, organization, etc. who provides us with the necessary information we are seeking.

Have you ever noticed closely that when we are seeking (with clear intention or deeply focused desire) an answer to a problem or a workable solution to a unique set of circumstances that a person, or a book, an article, conversation or even an offhand comment by an acquaintance or friend (or even a stranger) “opens the doors” to the solution we’re seeking? This is an example of being connected in the unifi ed fi eld. The solution we need at the right time or moment appears and we have the answer we seek.

In a larger sense, this is also an example of synchronicity where circumstances that appear to be coincidental are connected to each other in the unifi ed fi eld. We say it’s coincidental that two friends meet in the same place or location when they haven’t spoken to each other, haven’t written or otherwise communicated with one another in perhaps over a year or more. That “chance meeting” that occurs is referred to as synchronistic, or being in resonance with each other.

Thus when we say, “with God, all things are possible,” we are sug-gesting that we are inwardly open to receive help, however, or in whatever form in which it shows up.

In a slightly humorous vein, the following story may be appropriate,

A fl ood occurs to a community in which many people must fl ee to escape the rising water. As the fl ood approaches the community, a religious man says to his would be rescuer, a policeman, “I am safe. God will take care of me.” Whereupon the fl ood waters come and the community is

    3

  • submerged.

Seeing the fl oodwaters inundate the fi rst fl oor of his house, the reli-gious man goes up to the second fl oor.

Looking out the window he sees a rescue boat approach with a man offering to carry him from his fl ooding house. The religious man again declines saying, “God will save me.”

Soon the waters fl ood the second fl oor and the man climbs out onto the roof of his house. A helicopter fl ies overhead with a rope ladder and the pilot calls out over the loudspeaker for the religious man to climb up and be saved. Once more he declines saying, “God will save me” and fi nally the helicopter fl ies away.

Swiftly the waters continue rising, totally submerging the house and the religious man drowns.

He arrives in heaven totally confused, much hurt and very disap-pointed. He approaches God and asks, “Why didn’t you save me? I prayed and prayed to you for help and rescue and you didn’t respond!”

“Yes, but I did,” God replied. “I heard your prayers and responded three times. I sent you a policeman, a boatman and a helicopter pilot to rescue you and you declined all three.”

When we think of God as “out there someplace” and not available to us in the here and now, we tend to lose our way. There are many (who knows how many) mechanisms that help us to fi nd our connection to the Source (God). Prayer is one powerful mechanism that affords a connection to the Unlimited Source of all life. So, too, meditation and many spiritual practices such as yoga (any form when practiced as a spiritual discipline; not “power yoga” or “aerobic yoga” as featured by health clubs, spas or other similar kinds of environments), Tai Chi, Akido, walking the labyrinth and centering prayer. These few avenues of spiritual practice that help us to fi nd our way and help us reconnect to the Presence we call God are intrinsi-cally very powerful and across the centuries have led men and women of all persuasions to fi nd their unique relationship to God.

With God, all things are possible. Belief is involved, so is faith in a Divine Reality. But we must create or allow ourselves at the personal level to being open to the Source so that we can know when an answer to a long held desire or intention appears in our life.

“Do not look forward to changes and chances of this life in fear; rather look to them with full hope that, as they arise, God, whose you are, will deliver you out of them. He has kept you hitherto - do you but hold fast to His dear hand, and He will lead you safely through all things; and, when you cannot stand, He will bear you in His arms. Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow, and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.” Francis de Sales 4
