The coronavirus is causing hardship for our people and our parishes, both spiritually and financially. Our church-es will remain open during the day for the faithful who want to visit and pray. Your parish brings you the light of Christ. Please help keep the light shining by giving through your parish’s online program, app, or mail an offering to your parish office. Fr. Keegan and Fr. Ibok will continue to celebrate Mass privately and will honor all scheduled Mass

Intentions. Holy Family Church is open from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm. Please use the east door (closest to Metro

Diner) to enter. The Church will be closed from 8:30 - 9:30 Am as Fr. David will be celebrating a private Mass daily.

You can view daily Mass on this website. You must have a Facebook page in order to view the Mass. Fr. David will hear Confessions in the St. Vincent de Paul Room Monday through Friday from 11:00

am - 1:00 pm. The Parish Office is open from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, but would like to keep minimum contact with

others. If it is an absolute necessity that you visit, please ring the doorbell.

We recognize that many of us are experiencing financial uncertainties and hardships as a result of the COVID pandemic which may cause some to adjust their financial support of the parish. But we ask that you prayerfully consider the needs of the parish and your ability to contribute, because in order for our parish to continue to pay our bills, including payroll and maintenance issues, we need your sacrificial gift.

Though we may not be able to gather for Mass, you can still make your contribution. Here are 3 easy ways: 1) Through our on-line giving program, Faith Direct. You can sign-up for Faith Direct by visiting

holyfamilyjax.com and clicking on-line giving at the top of the page. 2) U.S. Postal Service 3) Drop off your envelope at the Parish Office.

Thank you so much for your support.

Pope Francis’ prayer:

“O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm.

You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.”

A Letter from Bishop Felipe J. Estévez to the Catholic Community Regarding Father John H. Dux March 23, 2020

Today, I am sad to announce that I have removed the priestly faculties of Father John H. Dux, who was accused of sexual abuse of a minor when he served as a parochial vicar of St. Patrick Parish in Gainesville. Father Dux is retired and living in South Carolina. The Diocese of Charleston and the Archdiocese for Military Services-USA has been notified of his status.

The diocese received the complaint in May 2019 from an attorney acting on behalf of his client. Father Dux’s faculties were suspended immediately, pending the outcome of an investigation. Information about the claim was provided to the state at-torney for the 13th Judicial Circuit (Hillsborough County), where the abuse allegedly occurred in 1976. Due to the statute of limitations in Florida, the state did not initiate an investigation.

We have had no prior credible allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor against Father Dux. He was ordained to the priesthood on April 14, 1973. And while he has not been found guilty in a civil court of law, the matter is still under canonical review by the church.

If anyone has been harmed by Father Dux or any other employee of the diocese, please contact law enforcement or the Florida Department of Children and Families by calling 1-800-962-2873. You can also contact the Diocesan Victim Assistant Coordinator, Tina Nugent, by calling (904) 208-6979 or email [email protected].

The U.S. bishop’s Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People calls for a “zero tolerance” policy regarding clergy who have a confirmed or proven allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor child. I am committed to providing a safe environment for children and vulnerable adults, and no clergy or other employees will remain in ministry who is a dan-ger to them.

I apologize for the publicity that will surround this announcement. I invite all of us to come together as a family of faith, ready to be a healing people – a forgiving and loving people as Christ calls us to be.

Father Dux served in the following locations of the diocese: Parochial Vicar St. Paul Parish, Jacksonville 1973-1974 Religion Teacher Bishop Kenny High School, Jacksonville 1973-1974 Parochial Vicar St. Patrick Parish, Gainesville 1974-1977 Administrator St. Madeleine Sophie Parish, High Springs* 1977-1983 Pastor St. Madeleine Sophie Parish, High Springs* 1983-1985 Chaplain United States Navy 1985-1998

* St. Madeleine Parish, at this time, oversaw the missions of Holy Cross in Cross City, and St. John the Evangelist in Chiefland.
