2021 STADIUM FINANCE RALLY SOUTH CANTERBURY DRAFT ITINERARY
2021 Stadium Finance Rally South Canterbury Stage Descriptions.
SS1 McKinnon Road: The same stage as SS1 from the 2020 Spring Rally and just one of the many
versions of a stage on the public roads of the Waitohi districts. Well-formed lightly metaled roads
running along valleys, ridges, and over rolling countryside with just enough crests to make it
interesting.
SS2 Kakahu: A return to the forest for 2021, this stage starts on the northern side of the forest and
uses good forest arterial roads to cross over the hill to the southern side. This forest stage has a little
bit for everyone.
SS3 Mulvihill Road: A repeat of SS2 from the 2020 Spring Rally this stage is another typical of the
many public road stages of the Waitohi and Kakahu districts. Well maintained roads. Shaded spots
could still be icy at this time of the day.
SS4 Rockwood Road: A steep narrow uphill climb leads onto a faster undulating section with some
great corners that test one’s commitment before a short downhill section of tarmac leading to a very tight turn through a gateway onto a narrow road. A tight hillclimb to some more rolling roads and a
long quick downhill to the finish. A very popular stage with spectators and photographers and the
Power Stage for 2021.
SS5 Middle Valley West: A reverse of the popular Middle Valley stage, starts with a nice open
section before tightening through a short forestry area before back to a nice flowing road in an open
valley to finish the stage.
SS6 Spur Road East: A favourite with the photographers who can capture some spectacular shots of
the cars with the majestic snow-capped mountains behind. This stage has been run in both
directions in recent years and last ran this direction in 2019. A patch of uphill traction seal assists a
steep climb before a fast run across the top of the ridgeline. Downhill to the finish that could be
slippery in well shaded spots.
SS7 Cricklewood: SS6 from 2020 Spring Rally and a reverse of the Rutherford Road stage of 2019. A
fast flowing stage on smooth open gravel roads, with a very short tarmac section on a sharp uphill
section.
SS8 Askins Road: SS7 from the 2020 Spring Rally and a reverse of the Pareora Gorge stage of 2018-
2019. Starts on a nice rolling country road before dropping down through a tight section to the well
photographed ford. A quick rolling section of road leads to the tarmac intersection so popular with
spectators before continuing onto a fast section leading to the reverse of an old hillclimb venue to
the finish.
SS9 Howell Road: A new stage for 2021, starts on a fast flowing road running along the top of a
ridgeline before dropping down to the valley. A short tarmac section leads into a tighter section
through another old hillclimb venue before a fast finish on a short downhill section.
SS10 Levels raceway: The final stage of the rally and the traditional 4 laps of the Levels circuit, run
on gravel tyres – a great way to end the day.
