The Lord says this: I am coming to gather the nations of every language. They shall come to witness my glory. I will give them a sign and send some of their survivors to the nations: to Tarshish, Put, Lud, Moshech, Rosh, Tubal, and Javan, to the distant islands that have never heard of me or seen my glory. They will proclaim my glory to the nations. As an offering to the Lord they will bring all your brothers, on horses, in chariots, in litters, on mules, on dromedaries, from all the nations to my holy mountain in Jerusalem, says the Lord, like Israelites bringing oblations in clean vessels to the Temple of the Lord. And of some of them I will make priests and Levites, says the Lord. (R.) Go out to all the world and tell the Good News. O praise the Lord, all you nations, acclaim him all you peoples! (R.) Strong is his love for us; he is faithful for ever. (R.) Have you forgotten that encouraging text in which you are addressed as sons? My son, when the Lord corrects you, do not treat it lightly; but do not get discouraged when he reprimands you. For the Lord trains the ones that he loves and he punishes all those that he acknowledges as his sons. Suffering is part of your training; God is treating you as his sons. Has there ever been any son whose father did not train him? Of course, any punishment is most painful at the time, and far from pleasant; but later, in those on whom it has been used, it bears fruit in peace and goodness. So hold up your limp arms and steady your trembling knees and smooth out the path you tread; then the injured limb will not be wrenched, it will grow strong again. Alleluia, alleluia! I am the way, the truth, and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father, except through me. Alleluia! Through towns and villages Jesus went teaching, making his way to Jerusalem. Someone said to him, Sir, will there be only a few saved? He said to them, Try your best to enter by the narrow door, because, I tell you, many will try to enter and will not succeed. Once the master of the house has got up and locked the door, you may find yourself knocking on the door, saying, Lord, open to usbut he will answer, I do not know where you come from. Then you will find yourself saying, We once ate and drank in your company; you taught in our streetsbut he will reply, I do not know where you come from. Away from me, all you wicked men! Then there will be weeping and grinding of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves turned outside. But, I did go to the public speaking aſternoon, when 35 Abergowrie Boys, the Groundwater girls from Gilroy Santa Maria and Trista Kopeshke among others recited prepared bible passages. It does get a bit hard to listen to the same passage twenty times, but each student gave their own very special interpretation and recitation. I was very proud of all of the students. I am really running out of things to say. This may be an indication that I need a holiday. Thankfully, I go on three weeks holiday beginning 5 September, i.e. only about ten days away. ’Along with the need for greater liturgical sacredness was an expressed desire from participants to build a deeper relationship with Christ. This began with an acknowledgement of the presence of Christ in the Eucharist and a great respect for the Blessed Sacrament.’ This is just one of the thousands of submissions from the Listening and Dialogue phase. Understanding the rite of ordination: The Promise of the Elect: Once the candidate has been “elected” by the Bishop for Ordination, he is asked by the Bishop to express his resolve to faithfully live out the life of

ministerial priesthood. The first four promises are connected intimately to the life of an ordained priest. The Elect promises: to exercise the ministry of the Word through preaching and teaching; to celebrate faithfully the liturgies of the Church, especially the Eucharist and Sacramental Reconciliation, for the sanctification of God’s people; to pray unceasingly for the people entrusted to his pastoral care; and to grow closer to Christ the High Priest each and every day through prayer and sacrifice. The final promise, kneeling before the Bishop, is a promise of obedience to him and his successors.

Question:

In some passages of the Bible, Jesus makes it sound like only a few people will be saved. But we talk about hoping for everyone's salvation. So which one is it - will many or few people be saved?

Answer:

Salvation is a mystery of God's grace. St. Paul encourages us to offer prayers for everyone. He calls it "good and pleasing to God" because God Himself "wills everyone to be saved" (c.f. 1 Tm 2:1-4). The redemption that Jesus offers is held out to all of us. His sacrifice on the cross was already for everyone. Now it is a matter of if and how we accept that salvation in our own lives.

Here on earth, we can't possibly know the exact number of people who will be in heaven. When we hear words like "many" and "few," we tend to think of them in quantitative terms. Four wine glasses for six guests is too few. Three slices of cake for one person is too many. For God, however, "many" and "few" are qualitative terms. Imagine for a moment that nearly every human person is in heaven and only a handful had, by their actions on earth, separated themselves from God. For a God who infinitely loves, even one person spending eternity apart from Him is too many!

Please Pray For: Sr Mary Regina O'Riordan, Pierina Oldano, Edward Keily, Alfio D’Urso (died this week), Ned Day, Filippo Caristi, Maureen Altadonna, Gloria Motti, Maria Bovero, Nellie Lee, Nicanor Perio (jnr), Stella Minato (annivs at this time), Filippo Macario, Alfie Di Bartolo, Dec’d members Sartoresi & Vella families, Vittorio & Maria Cantoni, Carlo & Maria Magoni, Elliott Francis Mathiesen, Santo & Giuseppina Contarino, Baldo Fanti, Rupert, Isabel & Nicholas Lee, Tina Girgenti, Edna Garutti, Oreste Chinotti, Lorenzo Capozzo, Gianfiori Mastrodi & Mastrodi family, Luceno Chiong, Elda Zatta, Hannah Ryan, Dan & Molly Sheahan, Giuseppe & Alfia Patti, Salvatore, Sebastiano & Angela Coco

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls

and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
