There are excellent programs available to Saskatchewan shooters in 2018. Many of these programs are made possible through the support of SASK LOTTERIES. Some of these initiatives are listed as follows:
ALL STAR TEAM 20192019 All Star Team members will be selected from all shooters having shot a minimum 1200S, 800D and 800H Saskatchewan targets at 3 clubs. Special category requirements (Lady, Junior, Sub Junior, Sr. Vet. and Vet.) are 600S, 400D, 400H at 3 clubs. Applicants must apply by Sept. 17, 2018, listing your best scores. (form will be provided by SATA secretary).

SASK. FIRST TEAM (HIGH PERFORMANCE)The top 10% (20 maximum) including All-Star Team of Saskatchewan ATA Shooters who have an average of 88% or higher and shot 1200S, 800D, 800H in Saskatchewan at 3 clubs will qualify for the Sask First Team. International shooters (2) will be selected by separate international criteria. Team members are eligible for reimbursement of a portion of practice and competition expenses. 2018 winners are listed in this newsletter, 2019 winners will be chosen on 2018 results. The SATA secretary sends winner’s forms to be completed and submitted with receipts for expenses and proof of shooting and target requirement. (copy of A.T.A. card) Deadline for submission is Sept. 17, 2018, though winners can submit as soon as target requirements are met to receive immediate reimbursement. Sask First winners are eligible for travel grants described below.
TRAVEL GRANTS - 2018 CANADIAN TRAPSHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIPS Brandon Gun Club, Brandon MBTo receive travel grant funding, ATA members must shoot 1200S, 800D and 800H Saskatchewan targets at 3 clubs in the current target year. Veterans, Sr. Veterans, Ladies, Juniors and Sub-juniors will qualify with 600S, 400D and 400H at 3 clubs. International shooters must shoot 400 competition targets during the designated shoot year commencing on September 1, 2017 and ending on August 30, 2018.
Expense claim forms will be provided and must be submitted with applicable competition and travel receipts and proof of minimum target qualifications as listed above. The qualifying shoot requirements would be the 400 Canadian Championship targets at the Brandon Gun Club, Manitoba (attach copy of ATA card) and/or International shooters must shoot the singles, mixed singles or doubles program or both at the International Trap Championships
Documentation must be postmarked by September 17, 2018. Payments will be made after the final budget amounts are calculated. Late applications will not be eligible for reimbursement.
ATA COMPETITOR YEARLY MEMBERSHIP:Each Saskatchewan trap shooter that will be entering a registered competition at a club in SK must hold a SATA individual membership. This is a $20 fee per person and must be paid at your first registered shoot of the target year.
For those shooters that know they will be competing this summer, it would lighten the work load for the shoot secretary if you mailed your fees directly to the SATA office, checks preferred.
MEMBERSHIP ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (MAP)The MAP program is funded by Sask Sport Inc. and is set up to enable SATA to promote province wide initiatives to increase the number of participants, offset club operating expenses and support community and club-level sport development.
FREE - FOR NEW SHOOTERSNew Saskatchewan shooters (includes anyone who has never been an A.T.A. member before) are eligible to receive free, their 2018 A.T.A. membership and first 100 targets. Participating clubs will pay for the above and submit receipts to the S.A.T.A. secretary for reimbursement.
SASKATCHEWAN JUNIORS AND SUB JUNIORSYou can receive your A.T.A. membership FREE when you sign up for your first shoot in 2018. Clubs will pay the membership and forward to the S.A.T.A. secretary for reimbursement, or, if you paid already, you can submit directly to the Secretary for reimbursement. You will also receive the 200 singles Championship Targets (targets only, not fees) at the Provincial FREE. The club will pay for the targets and submit to S.A.T.A. for return of funds. Saskatchewan Ladies, Juniors and Sub-Juniors, S.A.T.A. will subsidize one-half the cost of targets for singles and doubles at any shoot in Saskatchewan if no money is played, for either of the two subsidized categories.

NEW CLUBSRemember, you can receive $200 from S.A.T.A. for holding your first registered shoot.
CLINICS 2018Clubs are encouraged to host clinics where demand warrants. Saskatchewan has a number of the best qualified clay target coaches in Canada. For clinics contact the Coach Coordinator Committee. S.A.T.A. will fund coaches expenses (up to $150.00). Five shooters minimum are required for a minimum of 6 hours for a clinic.
CLUB PROMOTIONS FOR NEW SHOOTERSClubs are encouraged to bring out NEW shooters to participate in registered or fun shoots. Up to $12 per NEW shooter is available from S.A.T.A. to help defray target and shell costs for a planned event. All clubs hosting the above events will have their applications reviewed at the Fall Director’s meeting and available funds will be paid out on a pro-rated basis. See S.A.T.A. Secretary before planning your event.
ATHLETIC ASSISTANCES.A.T.A. will sponsor an Athletic Assistance Award to a student in pursuit of a first degree or certificate at a recognized post secondary educational institution. Applicants must have shot a minimum of 1000 A.T.A. targets or 400 registered International targets, or a combination thereof in the current target year. Applications must be forwarded to the S.A.T.A. secretary postmarked by Sept. 17, 2018.

NOVICE SHOOTERSFirst year registered Saskatchewan shooters can get their first 100 targets (targets only, not fees) of the Provincial Championship paid for by S.A.T.A. and be eligible for a special novice prize to be awarded on the first 100 targets of this event. The club will pay for the targets and submit receipts to the S.A.T.A. secretary for reimbursement.

• Practice trap will be open prior to events - practice rounds may be purchased at clubhouse.
• Shoot classification will be open Wednesday from 18:00 to 20:00. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday classification and squad selection will be available all day, starting at 07:30.
• All empty hulls which hit the ground are the property of the club.• Protective shooting glasses and hearing protection are mandatry.• Reloads are permitted (ATA rule XIII-G) and factory ammunition will be available.• Under NO circumstances will any person, with the exception of the shoot committee
or trap personnel be allowed ahead of the 16 yard line.• No shooter is to approach a traphouse or enter one for any reason - disqualification
can result.• Line referees will be appointed by the SATA or the hosting club.• No soliciting or selling of any products or games at the hosting club.• Camping spaces are available - club contact will be posted.• Shoot-offs will be governed and run by SATA delegated personnel• Preliminary Singles and Doubles events ties will be carried over.• Handicap events will be shot off as soon as possible after completion of the event.• The SATA Annual General Meeting will be held after the first 100 championship singles
on Saturday.• Squads will wait 3 minutes for tardy shooters after taking the line - after that time
shooters have to re-squad as you may not join the squad after shooting has begun.• Shooters who miss their squad will be subject to a re-squadding fee.• Each shooter will be responsible for checking his own score, score sheets will not be

• Classification committee will consist of ATA Delegate and the two Alternate Delegates• At printing these people are; Jim Brown - Rod Boll - John Nuttall• No other person may classify a shooter for this shoot• Shooters must present ATA or PITA plastic card and Average card to classification• Average card should be up to date - print from ATA website and if the latest shoots
are not on website these should be filled in by the shooter.• It is the shooters responsibility to give classification an up to date average card.• Classification will be based on official ATA averages and known ability.• Classification reserves the right to examine the last 8 scores for abnormally low
scores.• Special Category Shooters: Sub-Junior, Junior, Junior Gold, Lady 1, Lady 2,
Sub-Veteran. Veteran, Senior-Veteran and Chairshooter must declare their category at classification.
Penalty Classification and Yardage• Shooters who have less than 1000 total 16-yard targets for the current and previous
year will be assigned to “B” class or higher.• Shooters who have less than 1000 total Doubles targets for the current and previ-
ous year will be assigned to “B” class or higher.• Male shooters over 16 years who have less than 1000 total handicap targets for
the current and previous year will shoot from NO less than 22 yards.• Lady and Sub-junior shooters who have less than 1000 total handicap targets
for the current and previous year will shoot from NO less than 20 yards.
IF IT IS FOUND THAT A SHOOTER HAS SHOT FROM A WRONG YARDAGE FOR ANY REASON - THAT SHOOTER WILL BE DISQUALIFIED
A novice shooter is only allowed to win one novice trophy supplied by S.A.T.A. during their novice year at club level.
All novice shooters for the year are eligible to shoot for the Provincial Novice Trophy.
WARNINGUNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL ANY PERSON, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE TRAP PERSONNEL OR SHOOT COMMITTEE MEMBERS BE ALLOWED AHEAD OF THE 16YD. LINE. NO SHOOTER IS TO APPROACH A TRAPHOUSE OR ENTER ONE FOR ANY REASON. ANY SHOOTER IS SUBJECT TO DISQUALIFICATION FOR VIOLA-TION OF THIS RULE.

Your Directors at the ATA are extremely conscious of safe gun handling. The following ATA safety rules will be vigorously enforced.
All guns must have the action OPEN and contain no live shell at all times except while the shooter is on the firing line. The gun’s action may be closed when it is in a gun rack but it shall not contain a live shell.
As a safety precaution - test shots will NOT be permitted.
A contestant shall place a live shell in his gun only when at a firing point facing the trap. In singles shooting, they may place only ONE shell in their gun at a time and must remove it or the empty case before moving from one position to another. In doubles, two shells may be placed in the gun.
In changing from one post to another or making the post 5 to post 1 walk the shooter should NOT walk in front of the other competitors. Nor shoul competitors move back so the shooter can walk in front of them.
All guns used by the contestants must be so equipped and so used as to not eject empty shells in a manner to disturb or interfere with other contestants.The SATA Directors will be vigilant for any safety rule violations.
SAFETY1. Do not load your gun except when standing in a shooting position and not until
it is your turn to shoot. If the warning device or flag goes up, immediately unload your gun and wait until the warning device or flag goes down indicating ready.
2. Load one shell only in your gun at a time for singles or two shells only for doubles.3. Do not carry your gun with breach closed.4. Do not place your hand or any other part of your body over the muzzle of your gun.5. Do not point your gun in the direction of any person even though you know the
gun is not loaded.6. Always carry your gun with the breach open and muzzle down.7. Only target loads may be used, see section XIII - G in ATA Rule Book.8. Each individual should have their own gun. The practice of sharing a gun is not
allowed.9. Protective shooting glasses and ear plugs or muffs are mandatory.10. All empty hulls which hit the ground are the property of the club.11. All adjustments of trap machines are to be made only by authorized personnel.12. All loading of trap machines is to be done by qualified personnel.13. The club reserves the right to refuse shooting privileges to individuals possessing
faulty firearms and/or ammunition.14. The club assumes no responsibility for injuries or damages resulting from the use
of faulty firearms and/or ammunition.

All-Around: championship at the Grand, Zone, State and other major shoots based on the combined scores of the 400 championship targets, 200 singles, 100 doubles and 100 handicap.Average: the percentage of targets the shooter has hit out of the total shot at.Average Book: yearly book compiled by the ATA listing all singles, handicap and doubles averages of each member who shot during the previous year.Back-Yardage: positions in handicap shooting from 25 to 27 yards.Broken Target: (A) one which comes out of the traphouse in pieces. It is declared “no target” whether the shooter shoots at it or not, and another bird is thrown. It does not count even if the shooter hits it (B) a whole target which the shooter hits and is scored as “dead”.Call: signal given by the shooter for the release of the target. Usually the word “pull,” but any sound may be used.Classification: a system of diving shooters into groups-based on previous records, ability, etc.-in singles and doubles. Classification is done by a committee of shooters. AA is the highest class; D or E are the lowest.Dead: the term used for a target broken by the shooter.Doubles: one of the three events in trapshooting. The shooter stands 16 yards from the trophies and fires twice, once at each target that are fired simultaneously.Entries: the number of shooters in a specific event.Field: the trap field ; refers to the entire layout of the trap and shooting positions.Handicap: one of the three events in trapshooting. Singles targets are shot at by shooters standing a minimum of 18 yards and a maximum of 27 yards from the trap.High-Over-All: championship based on the combined score of all targets in a program. At the Grand it includes 1,000 targets over the final six days.
Junior: any shooter under the age of 18.Junior Gold: any shooter at least 18 years of age and under 23 years of age.Lost: the term for a target missed completely or only “dusted.”No-Bird: the call given by the referee when the shooter does not have to fire at a target. Ex. A target that is thrown from the trap broken.Pair: the two targets fired simultaneously in doubles shooting.Pigeon: clay pigeon, the target.Puller: the person who releases the target from the trap, either by an electric switch or by hand. Senior Veteran: any shooter at least 70 years of age and older.Shootoff: method of deciding ties in which the shooters fire another event.Singles: one of the three events in trapshooting. Targets are shot at by shooters standing 16 yards from the trap. One shot fired at each target.Squad: a group shooters (five or less) who shoot together at one trap and who shoot in rotation.Straight: the breaking of all targets in an event.Sub-Junior: any shooter under the age of fifteen.Sub-Veteran: any shooter at least 55 years of age and under 65 years of age.Trap: the device used to propel the target.Traphouse: a structure 2 1/2 feet below the ground 16 yards in front of the station that houses the trap, trapboy and a supply of targets.Veteran: at the Grand, any shooter age 65 or older.Zone: (A) one of the five districts in which the ATA divides the United States and Canada. (B) one of the districts into which various states divide their territories.Zone Shoots: tournament sponsored by the ATA in each of its five zones and for which the ATA furnishes the major trophies.
