Cycle 3 Progress
• Grad Symposium held in September 2017 involving First Nations Educational Authorities and school divisions-teams shared plans and collaborated on improvement strategies
• Student First Classrooms were created and piloted by school divisions and FN Authorities
• 1% increase in the Saskatchewan Three Year Graduation Rate for the 2016-2017 school year
• Creation of a Provincial Attendance Working Group-target set that 90% of students across the province will have at least 80% attendance each month
• PLT partners have created and posted Graduation Improvement Plans

Attendance Working Group Mandate
• The mandate of the Provincial Attendance Working Group is to foster the adoption of best practices related to improvement of school attendance across the education sector in Saskatchewan.
• The working group will lead and build support for the desired actions by developing and implementing a plan to guide the sector. This work plan will outline the initiatives and actions that the Provincial Leadership Team (PLT) will undertake in order to increase the understanding of and strengthen the support for the desired actions that will improve school attendance.
• The working group will operate under the guidance of the sector graduation rates outcome and will be co-chaired by the outcome owner and ministry PLT Co-chair.
Attendance Improvement Initiatives-Engagement & Communication
• Raising the awareness level of the importance of attendance
• Connecting with community groups regarding attendance • Speak to students about engagement and their needs • Attendance matters posters with our division data • Marketing & communication – video/info graphics • Nudge letters/phone calls • We are focusing on “parent engagement” • Grade 8 home visits • Community panels

• Authentic meaningful parent relationships – using parent knowledge
• Strategies school divisions can do at each tier (Three Tiered model)

Provincial Attendance Strategies
1. Provincial public relations campaign on the importance of attendance
2. Create province-wide expectations and vision for parent engagement
3. Funding partnerships for outreach workers (e.g., mental, FNM, High risk schools)
4. Engage community and business partners to promote the value of attendance
5. Inter-agency plan that focuses on supporting and engaging students/families
