IT’S NOT JUST A WALK IN THE PARK. IT’S YOUR COMMUNITY.

For more information on your local parks, please visit ItStartsInParks.org

Florida’s parks have become an integral component to economic development as well as an investment in the arts and cultural growth within our communities. Parks provide the setting for social events large and small where people can connect with each other, and participate in classes and group activities for personal enrichment. Parks also provide an investment in infrastructure needed to accommodate revenue generating sporting events and tourism, benefiting the local economy and community as a whole.

Become a Friend of Sarasota County ParksThe fabric of any community is its parks, and Sarasota County is fortunate to have a diverse park system featuring a variety of neighborhood and regional parks, trails, natural areas and beautiful beaches. The Friends of Sarasota County Parks is a 501(c)(3) corporation which was formed in 2003 to provide volunteer support and raise funds to enhance county parks, programs and preserves. Over the years the Friends of Sarasota County Parks have raised funds to develop new parks, add playgrounds and send children to summer camp. Our current fund-raising campaign is focused on efforts to construct shade structures over county dugouts and spectator bleachers. We invite you to join us! To learn more, visit our website at www/foscp.org.

Join the Team – Volunteer! We welcome your participation in making Sarasota County a premier community where people choose to live, work and play, whether it be volunteering for a one-time event or an on-going opportunity. By volunteering you can ...

• Make friends and meet new people.• Contribute to your community.• Stay active.• Bring fun and fulfillment to your life.

Together we can create a community that actively supports a wide range of excellent programs, special events and park operations offered by your Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department. About the farmhouseIn 1916, Edson Keith bought a 60-acre plot of land along Phillippi Creek which is now known as Phillippi Estate Park. The Keith farmhouse was the first building erected on the estate and is one of the few existing wood-frame structures from the early 1900s in Sarasota County.

The farmhouse is currently under renovation to become an interpretive center, open free to the public, featuring artifacts and memorabilia of life in the early days of Sarasota. The building remains a vivid reminder of Sarasota’s origins and the people who built the community.

For more information about the renovation, call 941-861-5000 or visit scgov.net (keywords Keith Farmhouse). To make a donation, contact the Friends of Sarasota County Parks, Phillippi Estate chapter at 941-275-9397 or [email protected].
