    To whom it may concern,

It is with great enthusiasm that I submit this reference letter for Hector Solis-Ortizs e-portfolio.

As Hectors current supervisor in his position as an Assistant Resident Director within the Department of

Residence Life I have seen him flourish into a professional with a deep care for students and their experiencecampus. Not only is Hector dependable in providing quality work in his position, but he has a unique ability

gauge what students and student staff need to be successful. An example of this is how Hector has adapted to

his role as the advisor for the de Nobili Hall Council. While learning to adapt his supervisory style to the nee

of an advising position Hector was able to get first year students excited to join the organization by discussinthe impact they could have on their community. Hectors energy working with this group of student leaders

was infectious which allowed the group to bond quickly and advocate for the needs of the de Nobili communas well as adapt when there have been changes within the executive team of the hall council. Even though

Hector did not have any prior advising experience he was eager to take on this responsibility. He looked fordirection and advice, and I am sure Hector will continue to look for opportunities to learn and grow through

    future new experiences.

What is unique about Hector and his potential to be successful in the field of Student Affairs is the deep care

puts into student interactions. Throughout this year I have watched him grow personally and professionally

through dealing with challenging student and student staff situations. Hector has been able to separate situatiand behaviors from who students are, therefore showing students care and understanding that they deserve. T

will serve Hector well as he moves on into his professional career in the field. Hector puts students at the ce

of his work, even with multiple conflicting priorities that come from any administrative campus position.

Finally, Hectors ability to maintain his personality and approach to relationships is not lost within his

professional identity. His authenticity is seen because of this, allowing for relationships that are genuine with

both staff and students he works with. As with any new professional Hector will have areas to grow in, but hattitude and approach to student interactions will suit him well as he maneuvers into the realm of a full-time

position in Student Affairs. Wherever Hector ends up at after he departs from Loyola, he will bring an energ

his future department that is unmatched.

    Sincerely,

Sarah Kaminski, M.Ed.Resident Director- de Nobili HallLoyola University Chicago Department of Residence Life
