Software Requirements

DSP Application Server

The following are basic requirements for the DSP application server. It is the responsibility of the client to install and license the required software.

• Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 8.0/8.5/10.0. • The IIS software is bundled with the Microsoft Windows Server operating system. Supported versions of Windows

are Windows Server 2012, 2012R2 and 2016. The Windows roles, role services and features required to support SAP Accelerators are described in detail in the section Windows Server Component Requirements.

• Microsoft .Net Framework versions 4.5/4.6 must be installed. The applicable version depends on the underlying operating system version.

NOTE: Upon upgrade to 7.1.4, .Net 4.8 will automatically install with the upgrade. 4.8 is required for proper alignment of the DBVT with SQL Server 2019.

The following SQL Server components must be installed on the application server:

• If using SQL Server 2016: Management Tools—Complete, SQL Server Data Tools, Integration Services (as needed), Documentation components (recommended).

• If using SQL Server 2017: Management Tools—Complete, SQL Server Data Tools, Integration Services (as needed), Documentation components (recommended).

• If using SQL Server 2019: Management Tools—Complete, Integration Services (as needed), Documentation Components (recommended), and SQL Data Tools for Visual Studio 2017 (requirement if using SSIS packages in Collect)

NOTE: SSIS downloads are supported by SQL Server 2016, 2017 and 2019, and must have the associated SQL 2016/2017/2019 Integration Services installed for the specific version of SQL Server.

Required Features

The Windows Server features required for DSP are installed automatically as part of the installation of the Required Roles and Role Services – Windows Server 2012/R2 and 2016. No additional features are needed unless desired by the client. It is assumed that the default features resulting from a standard installation of Windows Server will still be present.

DSP Database Server

• Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2017 or 2019 x64 Standard or Enterprise Edition • SQL Server must be installed using the default server level, case-insensitive collation sequence,

SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS. • Latest SQL Server service packs and patches are highly recommended. • Mixed authentication (SQL Server and Windows) must be enabled as a SQL Server Login is used by the application

to access the databases.

NOTE: In complex deployment scenarios where multiple application server nodes are deployed, an additional SQL Server instance (configured as above) may be needed to allow for maintenance and upgrades to be performed. This instance only needs to be available on a temporary and occasional basis and does not require separate hardware to be provisioned.

End User Workstations

End user interaction is accomplished using a web interface; a recent, standards-compliant internet browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled is the only requirement. If users wish to view reports generated in Microsoft Office formats (Word and Excel), they will also need the appropriate software.

NOTE: A version of Excel compatible with .xlsx files is required.

DSP have been tested to work with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 11.0 (IE Compatibility View must be disabled for all intranet sites), and Google Chrome; Apple Safari is also supported, though not explicitly certified.

Developer Level Users

Developer level users require Remote Desktop access to the DSP application server in addition to the End User Workstations requirements.

Hardware Considerations

Several factors influence the hardware requirements, and in turn, the hardware selected for the project will dictate the performance levels experienced, both in terms of interactive responsiveness of the WebApp and of the speed of processing background tasks. The storage space needed by the databases is mainly dependent on what ERP objects the application(s) cover.

Sizing of the Application Web Server depends on several factors, specifically:

• The number of users, both total and concurrent. Concurrent users are the number of active user sessions at any given time.

• The number of concurrently running Waves. • The number of Target objects per Wave.

Note Regarding Virtual Machines (VMs)

Virtual machines configured with sufficient resources to meet the hardware recommendations are acceptable for the servers in the Syniti Solutions landscape.

Oversubscription of VM Host resources is not supported. Oversubscription happens when the Hypervisor host has assigned more resources than physically exist (for example, Assigned 350GB of RAM to VM Guests but only 256GB exists on the host).

Third-Party Hosting Providers

If you use a third-party hosting provider to host your database, configuration details will be provided on a case-by-case basis during the pre-deployment process.

Licensing and Virtual Machines

Because licenses are tied to a hardware ID, any hardware change can invalidate your current license. If this occurs, DSP will display the warning below and you will have 14 days to contact SAP Support at https://launchpad.support.sap.com using component XX-PART-SYN. .

DSP Application Server

Processor and memory are the key factors for the performance of the Syniti DSP rendering engine. DSP performance deteriorates with more than 40 concurrent users per processor. High-end processors are preferred (for example, XEON or similar).

It is imperative that the database server is physically located near the web server. Syniti DSP requires continuous LAN-speed bandwidth and close proximity between the web server and the database server. We consider close proximity to be within the same Data Center LAN and a total latency of less than 5ms.

Minimum Configuration for Application Server

• 4 to 8 Xeon processor cores or equivalent • 16 GB memory • (2) 300GB disks RAID1 configuration for OS and applications

NOTE: It is a "best practice" to not put application data on the same disk as the Operating System. The activity of reading/writing to the same storage can conflict and hurt performance.

DSP Database Server

Database server performance is heavily dependent on memory, processor and disk I/O; correspondingly, high-end hardware is required. It is strongly recommended to use a 64-bit version of SQL Server to avoid memory bottlenecks.

Database storage should follow Microsoft guidelines for optimal performance and fault tolerance. Broadly speaking, these guidelines indicate the use of RAID 10 for Data and Log files, and the separation of Data and Log files onto discrete arrays, with as many separate arrays used for log files as the hardware can accommodate.

The database server should have 4Gbps or greater connectivity to the DSP application server and high-speed connectivity to source servers. Traffic management, filtering and access controls can interfere with the communications between web server and database server, and can cause timeouts.

Minimum Configuration for Database Server

• 8 Xeon processor cores or equivalent (up to 32 for higher volume environments) • >32 GB Memory (up to 128 GB for higher volume environments) • 4Gbps network connectivity (10Gbps+ for higher volume environments) • Storage

• Separate OS Volume(s) to support the OS and pagefile. • One or more volumes for Database Data files • One volume for Database Log files • One volume for TempDB Database files • One or more volumes for Database backups

NOTE: Storage throughout is expected to be 200MB/s per CPU core in the SQL server. Latency is required to be less than 5ms.

Software Requirements and Hardware Sizing Guide > SAP Accelerators by Syniti > Page 8

NOTE: Recommended minimum array sizes can be found in the solution-specific appendices to this document.

If a Storage Area Network (SAN) is available, careful storage design can yield better performance. For example, additional LUNs can be defined so that the following can be stored separately: TempDB, sdb* data files, dsw* and dg* data files, sdb* log files, dsw* and dg* log files.

Many variables come into play with performance of a SQL Server.

Please contact SAP Support at https://launchpad.support.sap.com using component XX-PART-SYN for detailed recommendations.

Security Overview

The DSP framework and the hosted applications offer access and authorization to pages and data on a per user level, most often controlled by group memberships. Authentication can either be performed with native functionality or by leveraging external systems such as Windows Active Directory.

The DSP rendering engine on the web server and the DSP Service use a single SQL Server login to connect to all application databases. The same login must be used for all application and reference databases.

Network communication between the end user client and the web server may be secured using the HTTPS protocol with an SSL certificate.

Appendix B – SAP Advanced Data Migration by Syniti

The following appendix outlines requirements specific to the SAP Advanced Data Migration by Syniti (ADM). They should be followed in addition to the other requirements outlined in this document.

ADM comprises the following components:

• Console • Design • Map • Construct • AutoGen • Transform • Data Stewardship Platform (DSP)

NOTE: The DSP downloads data from source and target systems to repository databases so the other applications do not work directly on production data, but instead use a recent copy. DSP utilizes SAP Data Services connections to the source and target data stores.

Hardware Considerations

Web Server

The hard drive only needs to be large enough to contain the DSP rendering engine, WebApps and Service (< 2GB), the .Net Connector, and any ODBC drivers and log files. Some projects may need more space for flat file sources and reports.

Database Server

As a rule of thumb, ADM needs 2 GB for the Component’s metadata plus 300% of the space used by the raw data supplied by the legacy systems. For example, if the raw data extracted for all legacy systems was 500 GB, it is recommended that 1.5 TB (3 x 500 GB) of space be allocated on the database server. As a recommendation, use a minimum of 1TB if the calculation is lower than the legacy data calculation.

NOTE: Space for TempDB and backups are separate from this sizing. TempDB typically is 25-50% of the size of all user databases on the system. The amount of storage needed for backups depends on the backup strategy, compression, retention, and the size of the databases being backed up.

Appendix C - SAP Information Steward Accelerator by Syniti

The following appendix outlines requirements specific to SAP Information Steward Accelerator by Syniti (ISA).

They should be followed in addition to the other requirements outlined in this document.

ISA is comprised of the following Components:

• Information Steward Accelerator • Data Stewardship Platform (DSP)

NOTE: The DSP downloads failed data from IS rules to a repository database (IsFailedData) so ISA Reports do not work directly on production data, but instead use a recent copy. DSP utilizes Microsoft SSIS and SAP Data Services packages. The Closed Loop Remediation feature of ISA will correct production data directly using standard SAP interfaces (BDC, BAPI, IDOC).

Software Requirements

SAP Accelerators Application Server

• • SAP GUI version 7.4.3 Patch Level 8, 7.5.2 Patch Level 10, and 7.6.1 Patch Level 1 • Java Runtime Environment x86

NOTE: The DSP downloads failed data from IS rules to a repository database (IsFailedData) so ISA Reports do not work directly on production data, but instead use a recent copy. DSP utilizes Microsoft SSIS and SAP Data Services packages. The Closed Loop Remediation feature of ISA will correct production data directly using standard SAP interfaces (BDC, BAPI).

End User Workstations

For integrated recording of SAP transactions to function properly, • SAP GUI version 7.4.3 Patch Level 8, 7.5.2 Patch Level 10, and 7.6.1 Patch Level 1 on the workstations performing the recording. Integrated recording also requires Internet Explorer.

Hardware Considerations

For ISA the space requirements depend on the size of failed data that is returned from the data quality rules that are executed within Information Steward.

Web Server

The hard drive only needs to be large enough to contain the DSP rendering engine, WebApps and Service (< 2GB), the .Net Connector, and any ODBC drivers and log files. Some projects may need more space for flat file sources and reports.

Database Server

As a rule of thumb, ISA needs 2 GB for the Component’s metadata plus 150% of the raw data against which reports will be written. For example, if the raw data extracted for all legacy systems was 500 GB, it is recommended that 1.5 TB (3 x 500 GB) of space be allocated on the database server. As a recommendation, use a minimum of 1TB if the calculation is lower than the legacy data calculation.

Recovery Model and Backup Recommendations

The following table outlines recovery model and backup recommendations for ISA. The ISA Solution is based on a transactional database model and therefore requires a more stringent backup and recovery model.

Additional database server maintenance is required per industry standard for database administration, such as DBCC, page compression and index defragmentation. This table does not include backup databases or the administration of system databases.

The following appendix outlines requirements specific to Mass Maintenance. They must be followed in addition to the other requirements outlined in this document.

Mass Maintenance comprises the following components:

• Mass Maintenance • Data Stewardship Platform (DSP)

End User Workstations

Mass Maintenance does include recording SAP transactions using Integrate which requires the use of Internet Explorer. It is recommended to include the DSP URL as a trusted site in Internet Explorer. The following setting is required:

• Enable Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting on the Security tab (Custom Level) of Internet Options.
