In the depths of the Ecuadorian Amazon region you can enjoy and rest surrounded by a unique lands-cape that only Ecuador offers to its visitors.

This is a unique trip that will allow you to discover the mysterious lagoon Challwacocha, where you will see our vegetation such as little water gardens and dark floating grasses. Taking a look at the horizon you will surely see native South American birds such as the Lettered Ara-cari. You will hear the whisper of the Hoatzin, another bird, which size is similar to the pheasant that lives in the lagoons of the Amazon and Orinoco Rivers. Sani lodge is located in the intermediate corridor of Yasuní National Park and Cuyabeno Reserve, this place is owned by Sani Isla Kichwa Community and embraces a total of 42,000 hectares (103,784 acres) of virgin rainforest. This is an exclusive Eco-camping that welcomes tourists with an astonishing biodiversity. Part of the attractions is trekking through the forest, where you will be surrounded by 1,500 species of trees, hundreds of lianas and beautiful flowers; 550 species of tropical birds, 13 species of monkeys and 1,000 species of butterflies. With our extensive knowledge of flora, fauna and biodiversity; we can give our guests a real experien-ce while enjoying a tour through the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest.

The plane leaves from Quito Airport usually at 11:00 AM (flight schedule is subject to last minute changes). A person from our staff will help you with the check-in and give you the details of the trip. Then you will travel to Coca for 40 minutes. At your return from the lodge the guide will take you back to the airport and help you with the check in for your flight back at 12:20 PM (flight schedule is subject to last minute changes). We can book the flights.

You will be met at Coca airport by an English speaking guide and be transferred from the airport to Coca city where you will take a motorized canoe to sail over Napo river, during your trip you will be able to enjoy a snack and have the opportunity to observe the unique flora and fauna of the area. We will travel on this river for approximately 2 and a half hours. Before arriving to the camping area you will walk through a platform about 15 minutes to take a rowing canoe and finally we will sail for 1 hour and 30 minutes to arrive to Sani Eco-camping.

A bus from the Trans Baños Company departs from the station in Quito, located in Carcelén (in the northernmost part of the city of Quito) or from Quitumbe (located in the south of Quito) at 11:30 pm (the night before the tour starts). The trip lasts about 7 hours. Your guide will meet you at MACCO Cultural Center in Coca (9 de Octubre and Eugenio Espejo, at Coca boardwalk) at 10:30 AM.

Your day starts with the first morning flight (11:00 am) with a 40-minute flight from Quito to Coca where the tour guide will pick you up and take you to the dock of Coca city located on the banks of Napo River. Here, your bilingual guide will explain about safety before embarking on a motorized canoe for 2 and a half hours to navigate through one of the largest rivers of Ecuador in the Amazon region, the Napo River. During this trip you will be able to be connected with the Amazon, ancestral communities and birds such as herons and Amazonian gallinazos, all of this while enjoying a delicious snack. Canoeing through the Napo River will be followed by a 15-minute walk along a wooden platform, then a paddle canoe sailing through the beautiful Challwacocha Lagoon for 1 hour and 30 minutes. The staff at Sani Eco-camping will welcome you with a refreshing cold drink and some snacks before being directed to the tents. In the afternoon, you will have a short walk on the nearby trails or a canoe navigation with many opportunities to observe primates, Amazonian birds, black caimans, also you will have a close encounter with the amazing forest represented by ceibo trees, orchids and Bromeliads. During your return to the Camping, our chef will offer you an extensive menu of national cuisine. We also have options for vegetarian and vegan expectations. Later, you can learn about the Amazon, everything will be taught by one of our bilingual naturalist guides, all of this while enjoying a wide variety of cocktails prepared by our staff.

After breakfast, experience life in the upper canopy of the forest from our 37-meter (119-foot) tower. To get to the place our guides will paddle through Challwacocha Lagoon for approximately 45 minutes following of a short 10 minutes’ walk. More than 550 species of birds have been recorded in the area, including parrots, toucans, tanagers, flies and hummingbirds, with a little bit of luck you will see howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, or sloths resting in the treetops. The tower offers a different perspective, opening a window to a different world that will allow you to behold the Amazonian diversity that is impossible to see from the forest floor. The trip continues with an exploration in the forest in search of the innumerable Amazonian creatures. Return to Sani Eco-camping for lunch.

After lunch there are many alternatives for your enjoyment, bird watching from the Eco-camping area, or just relax in the hammocks or fish piranhas. In the afternoon walk along Coto trail, located in the middle of the forest in order to discover the intrinsic relation between living creatures and the role they play in this complex ecosystem. Orchids, lianas, fig trees, old trees, centenary trees, bromeliads all of them part of this fabulous tropical forest. Dinner at the Eco-camping. After dinner we offer a walk to search the endangered Black Caiman that reaches a measure of 5 meters. Return to Eco-camping.

After breakfast, departure to Napo River to take a motorized canoe to visit Yasuní Butterfly Garden where you can see 7 beautiful species of butterflies from the Ecuadorian Amazon and we will continue with the exploration around Yasuní National Park where you will see the famous spider monkey, Chichicos (Golden Mantle Tamarin), Parahuaco / Saki Monkey and there is the possibility to observe yellow crown parrots and yellow parrots as well. We will visit Sani Isla Community Center to get an idea of how people live in the community. You will enjoy our traditional drinks, food, and kichwa culture, learn how local life is environmentally sustainable. Return in the afternoon to our Eco-camping for dinner. After dinner, you can hike in the night to observe insects, spiders, snakes and frogs.

After breakfast, we will departure to Napo River to take a motorized canoe to visit the wall of parrots in Yasuní National Park, here thousands of parrots look for a place on the Salted wall to eat clay in a process of detoxification. Among the species that can be found we count the Amazonian parrots as yellow-crowned parrot, blue-headed parrot among others. We will continue our trip to Coca to arrive in time to take your flight back to Quito at 12:20pm.

Return to the Camping in the afternoon for dinner.

According to a recent study done by Biologists in the area, the Northeastern part of Ecuador where our Lodge is located is the most Biodiverse in the World (Yasuní Day, 2008). In fact, 1,500 species of trees and shrubs have been identified, more than in any other area ever studied. 644 species of trees on only 1 hectare (100,000 acres) have been documented, which is almost the same amount of tree species in the United States and Canada combined! This is a world record. More than 550 species of birds are on our bird list, making it one of the largest bird lists in the world. 80 species of bats can be found, making our area the second highest in the world. 105 species of amphibians and 83 species of reptiles make us the area with the highest amount of these species ever studied. 64 species of social bees are also a world record to keep in mind. 100,000 species complete this list.
