SANDY POLICE PREPAREDNESS CHALLENGE

Emergencies can happen at any time ~ are you ready? Follow these handy steps to be-come more self-reliant if disaster should strike:

WEEK 1: “GO-KIT” ITEMS A “Go-Kit” contains items to take if you need to evacuate quickly. Many store a “Go-Kit” in their ve-hicle as well as their home. Change of clothing and shoes Hygiene supplies: hairbrush, toothbrush, tooth-

paste, etc. Items to make you more comfortable while you

are away from home (deck of cards, word/math puzzle books, etc.), a pillow and blanket, etc.

A photo of you with your pet(s) for reunification

WEEK 2: ADD TO YOUR BINDER Emergency Phone Numbers Communications plan/pocket guide Place one in your binder for your stay kit Place one in your wallet Provide a copy to each of your family members

“STAY-KIT” ITEMS Keep a “Stay-Kit” at home with items to help you

through a disaster. Consider what you would want if you could not shop for 2 weeks: Water, at least 3 gallons/person + 1 per pet Garbage bags, plastic ties, and moist

towelettes for personal sanitation If you already have these items in your kit,

check expiration dates and replace items if necessary.

WEEK 3: YOUR MEDICINE Add a list of all prescription & over the counter

medication including dosage and instructions

“STAY-KIT” ITEMS Extra supply of medications; work with your

doctor to get an extra month’s supply; if insur-ance will not pay, you may be able to get sam-ples from your doctor

Rotate stored medications each month with the newest supply and note expiration dates.

Food, at least a three-day supply per person of non-perishable food (build your supply over time; each trip to the store add a couple cans)

Look for more Preparedness Challenge info in future newsletters or on the City of Sandy’s

Facebook page
