  • School Nurse Role An integral member of the Coordinated School Health (CSH) model Acts as a leader using professional education & skills to assist schools & communities in the development, implementation, & evaluation Provides leadership or serve as a supporting role in any of the eight components

  • Health Services: Management of acute & chronic health conditions Makes referrals & emergency care interventions Health Education: Provides classroom education that promotes healthy lifestyle choices Staff Wellness/Health Promotion: Works collaboratively with CSH team to provide health information

  • Counseling, Psychological & Social Services: Collaborates with others to identify students with psychosocial problems, intervention and referral School Nutrition Services: Provides education on nutritious foods and snacks Provides information on students with anaphylaxis & food allergies to promote student safety

  • Physical Education: Collaborates to provide information designed for physical activity Provide lifelong activity for all students Healthy School Environment: Monitoring, reporting & intervening to correct hazards Collaborate to develop a crisis intervention plan & adaption for students with special needs

  • Family & Community Involvement Identify & provide programs to meet the physical & mental health needs of students and families Assist to strengthen collaboration among agencies and stakeholders

  • School Wellness Local polices are designed to promote student health & reduce childhood obesity Each local educational agency that participates in the National School Lunch Program or child nutrition programs is required by federal law to establish a local school wellness policy Policies address nutrition education, physical activity & nutrition standards for all foods available during the day at school
