Dear Sandburg Families and Friends, The Amazing Race Multicultural Night was a huge success. I was especially pleased seeing so many of our families sharing their cultures and food with us. Thanks to the PTA and the Multicultural Committee for planning such a great experience for our students and families. We had a wonderful Kindergarten Round-up last week. It was encouraging meeting so many new Sandburg families. If you know anyone who has a child who will be 5 on or before September 1, please have him/her contact the school office. Preliminary drawings for Sandburg School are displayed near the main entrance. These drawings are part of the District 200 Master Facilities Plan. Proposed improvements feature a more secure entrance, improved small and larger instructional spaces, and a library that will be designed to allow for improved collaboration and creativity. I have been enjoying meeting with a group of 4th and 5th grade students on a special project. They are working together to create a resource that can be used schoolwide to address the issue of bullying. They are becoming experts on the topic. The project will cover what bullying is, what victims and bystanders can do when bullying occurs, and what we can do to prevent bullying at Sandburg. The State PARCC testing is coming in April. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will all be assessed in reading and mathematics. The testing window is April 5 - April 27. Grade level schedules will be finalized shortly and will include four sessions of reading and three sessions of math. Please mark your calendar and plan on attending the Sandburg Family Reading Night. It is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, 6:30-8:00 PM. We will send detailed information home when we get closer to the date. Our Million Minute Reading Challenge is going well. So far, Sandburg students and staff have read for a total of over 300,000 minutes. We are on pace to reach 1 million minutes by mid-May and will celebrate the accomplishment. Spring looks like it is making an appearance this week. Please enjoy! The Labels for Education Program is coming to an end.

“We have some sad news. In the past few years participation in Labels for

Education has declined and as a result, Campbell has come to the very

difficult decision to wind down the LFE program. The good news is nothing

changes this program year. There will be changes for next year’s program

starting August 1, 2016. We will continue to support American kids through

our Grand Stand for SchoolsSM sweepstakes and our community efforts

which we annually contribute $70 million in food and funding to tackle

obesity and hunger amongst our country’s most vulnerable families.” -

From the Labelsforeducation.com website.

We currently have 15,000+ points to use redeem by the end of this school

year. Please continue to send in as many Labels for Education until June 1st.

We are still going strong with our Box Tops Ice Cream Contest which ends

April 30th so continue to submit your box tops and I will be posting the

standings for the contest on the bulletin board by the office.

So far we have counted over 16,000 box tops!

Remember it’s anyone’s game to win! Please submit your box tops either by

baggies of 50 or on the sheet attached.

Please contact me with any questions or comments [email protected]

Thanks,
