San Juan de la Isla Brochure
Citation preview
Experience the world’s most unique
lake island from an unrivaled vantage
point - San Juan de la Isla - Nicaragua’s
most comfortable and authentic island
lodge.
With a lakefront location on Sto. Domingo Beach,
San Juan de la Isla provides stunning vistas of
Ometepe’s two towering volcanoes: the rugged,
active “Volcan Concepcion” and the misty, cloud-
forestwrapped “Volcan Maderas”. The volcano
lodge’s beachfront location is ideal for swimming
in Lake Nicaragua’s warm waters, hiking inside
nature reserves, mountain biking, horseback
riding and volcano climbing.
Perhaps best of all is the authentic rural ambience
of San Juan de la Isla, which is set inside
the Finca San Juan, a tropical fruit tree
plantation surrounded by precious
hardwood trees and rare wildlife. The
understated, century-old spanish
colonial hacienda house has been
faithfully restored. Lodging is exclusive,
limited to ten colonial rooms, three
independent bungalows and five log cabins, set
along the beach under swaying coconut palms.
Welcometo San Juan dela Isla!
LodgeComfort, privacy, rural luxury, great lake and
volcano views, authentic nicaraguan hacienda
style, a long sandy beach and warm water all
invite the visitor to make San Juan de la Isla the
first choice for a beachfront lodge on Ometepe
Island. With more than 160 acres of lush green
fields, forest, streams and fruit trees.
The lodge grounds reflect the tranquility of
Latin America’s second largest lake. Void of
the pretension or kitsch so recurrent in Central
American island lodging, the San Juan de la
Isla Lodge is an ideal base for visitors who
wish to feel at one with the island’s nature and
culture.
“We had a beachfront log cabin. We woke up to beautiful sunrises, watched monkeys on the trees overhead. This is a great place to stay.”
PJPHughes California, USA
allow guests to rest in a quiet ambience, with
splendid lake views.
Cozy, well-lit interiors are decorated by nicaraguan
handmade, wooden furniture, antiques, sculp-
tures, pre-columbian pieces, paintings and hand-
crafts. The facilities offer great comfort, and the
warm and guest-oriented staff
make the stay pleasant and
unforgettable.
Ideal destination to enjoy
a family vacation or an
escapade
with friends.
Healthy meals are served on the open-air corri-
dors of the old Casa Hacienda and on the terrac-
es located just a few meters from the lake shore.
The menu, mainly consisting of local dishes,
highlights fresh, seasonal produce, that ensures
excellent quality food and a variety of natural bev-
erages.
The RestaurantRanging from tasty soups and healthy salads
to fresh fish, light pastas, grilled steak and
chicken, the dishes offer the best combination
of traditional cooking and fine quality ingredi-
ents, managing to amaze the diners’ palates.
Completing the menu are original, fruit-based
homemade desserts.
clairesadventures Toronto, Canadá
Everything we had was freshly prepared and tasty. The churrasco dinner was the best steak we had in Nicaragua!
With a sense of freedom evoked by the breeze
from the lake and the rhythmic music of the
waves, you can enjoy a fun, varied
atmosphere amidst the convergence
of our guests. Its simple structure,
based on natural material and rustic
feel, harmonizes with the environment.
“Jicaro” BarThe bar offers a great variety of cocktails,
national and international liquors. Some of
the most popular are those made with the
national rum, Flor de Caña, and tropical
fruit mixtures, including the palate-
refreshing Macuá, Mojito, Piña
Colada, and Caipirinha.

For those who enjoy adventure and
sports Ometepe offers two lovely vol-
canoes to climb, one active, and the
other with a misty crater lake at its sum-
mit. They are the challenging: Maderas,
known for its steep, muddy trails through
dense forest and Concepción, famed
for steep terrain that also includes loose
footing and normally strong winds near
the summit.
Activities
“The experience of climbing two volcanoes is unique in the world, with a wonderful local guide, everything went perfectly”
fmarelli Lugano, Switzerland
Mountain biking is made doubly pleasant
by the numerous dirt tracks and the lake
water is warm and clean, great for swim-
ming, kayaking and windsurfing.
Ometepe Island has a vibrant nature that
can best be experienced on the slopes
of one of its two volcanoes, where hikers
can pass from tropical dry forest to cloud
forest and view numerous endangered
species of flora and fauna.
Other attractions are based on remain-
ing low land forest, fresh water inlets
and coastal wildlife.
Numerous beautiful birds, resident and
migrant also populate the grounds
and visit the thousands of century-old
Spanish Cedar trees, while the lake
waters that lap the beach are home to
more than 45 species of fresh water
fish.
Ometepe has a magnificent human his-
tory; its mysterious rock art, monumen-
tal indigenous sculptures and unique
ceramics give visitors many options
beyond adventure and nature. This rich
legacy can be seen in the archeologi-
cal remains on the island, and the many
unique oral histories and legends. The
culture of Ometepe is a step into the
past with ox carts working in the fields.
We invite you to visit and experience
this land of peace and tranquility.
RENTALS
Drive a quad bike or a Polaris buggy
around the island. Both are ideal to
enjoy an all-day exploration at your own
pace and make the most of your time
available on the amazing Ometepe, with
its luscious vegetation, and slow-paced
way of living. After bicycles, these are the
most common forms of transportation.
“I was there for a friend´s wedding. I must say that the hotel did an amazing job, and the staff (outstanding) could not do enough!”

Make sure to carry plenty of water and
sunscreen in your backpack.
WATER ACTIVITIES
Kayaking: You can explore the coast
while paddling over the water. If you have
a fishing rod, you can even do some

or to just cruise the majestic lake.
HORSE BACK RIDING

the property, starting on the beach shore
of the hotel through the thick forest and

passing a couple of creeks to re-enter
the hotel. You will get in touch with nature
and have the opportunity to be a part
of the surroundings, from butterflies to
monkeys to tropical flowers and century-
old trees.
