Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose Accounting and Finance because I
have always enjoyed working with numbers. I
found English and writing essays or
assignments challenging, so finding a course
that focused on numbers was really important
to me.
Describe a typical day at college:
A typical day for me and my friends would
usually be, going to class, then depending on
how close we are to exams, we would either
relax in the snack box or help each other
study in the library.
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
The college creates a lot of social
opportunities (rag wedding, surfing trip)
which I feel was so helpful for me as a first
year student as it allowed me to make friends.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
My plan for when I complete my course is to
work with a company as an accountant and
then to work my way up in the company.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Go to as many classes as you can even if you
feel they are not important.
Listen to your lecturers.

Why did you choose your programme of study?
I found dkit offered the best course in terms
of accounting and finance with the most
exemptions

Usually my friends and I start off by going to
classes, then when we get a chance we meet
up in the snack box to catch up and eat lunch,
some days we take a trip to the marshes or
blackrock
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:
Surf society
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
The effort made to include all students
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
To pursue accountancy
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Be confident
Be organized
Realize everyone else is in the same position
as you

Why did you choose your programme of study?
DkIT for me stood out the most for
Accounting and Finance more than colleges
like DIT and DCU that were closest to me. This
was because it offers 9 exceptions for the
Chartered Accountant exams. But also the
college itself is pretty lively and has great
student involvement.
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
Because the College has so many of its
students travelling from different parts of the
province, at the end of the day you basically
get to know the whole bus stop, you wont
ever find yourself alone even in campus or
outside it. Most of us are familiar with each
other and can easily stop and ask for any help.

Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose my programme to study Archaeology. I
have always had a passion for ancient sites
and the outdoors in general. Unfortunately
Archaeology did not go ahead as an elective
but I have enjoyed studying History and
Politics.
Describe a typical day at college:
Every day is different but typically you have
class and then a two or three hour break
which I usually use to go to the gym or catch
up on assignments.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I plan on doing a masters in Archaeology and
hopefully qualifying as an Archaeologist.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
1) Be yourself
2) Have fun, especially in first year make the
most of your freedom
3) Work hard

Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose my programme, as I have always had a
strong passion for history. I've always wanted
to study history as I find it fascinating to learn
about the past, especially when it still changes
the world to this day. I also had a keen
interest in English when I was in my PLC
Course, so that also influenced my decision to
study Arts at DkIT. What surprised me though,
is the Politics module, that is part of the Arts
programme. I started to gain a real interest in
it while the programme went on.
Describe a typical day at college:
A typical day consists of cramming in a cup of
coffee before a lecture, having a good chat
with your friends and then attending your
lecture. You may also have a few breaks in
between lectures, which may range between
30 mins to 3 hours, depending on your class
schedule. I recommend in the big breaks, to
either read a book, study for the lectures or
go to Insomnia coffee, beside the retail park,
with your friends. Personally, I tend to go with
the last option.
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:
I belong to the Film Society and the Fencing Society
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
I enjoy the various areas where students can
sit and chat to each other and how those
areas are located in each campus building.
The Student Union is also very welcoming and
Josh O'Reilly
DK861

approachable, they take in to consideration all
the students needs and they ensure that DkIT
students enjoy themselves while they attend
the college. Personally, I like the size of
classes in my programme. They are not too
big, which means you can easily get to know
most of your classmates and also be able to
have one on one discussions with the lecturer.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I don’t know, to be completely honest. I’m
only in first year and I still have a while to
think about it. I believe that it’s ok to not have
a set plan for the future because then your
tied to that plan and you never know what
may change along the road. I may even decide
that History isn’t for me anymore. That’s the
beauty of college and DkIT, you study the
subject that you always wanted to study but
also other subjects, which may appeal to you
more. However, at the moment, I do have a
dream of becoming a Curator of a museum.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Firstly, don’t set high expectations for your
college experience. That was my mistake. I
was expecting it to be like the Hollywood
movies, the minute I walked in the front door.
I soon realised, that what you get out of
college, solely depends on what you put into
it and that brings me on to my second piece of
advice.
Do not be afraid to step outside your comfort
zone. College may seem like a big thing, and it
is, but trust me, it flies by ridiculously fast. I’m
only going into second year, but judging from
how fast first year went, the next two years
will probably be the same. That’s not to scare
you, it’s to show you that college can be
amazing fun, if you meet it half way.
Thirdly, don’t put too much pressure on
yourself in first year. It is the start of a three
or four year degree but it’s also a year for you
to socialise and make friends. However, in
saying that, it is important that you do your
best at all times. If you show the lecturers
that you are attentive and ready to do your
best, then they will ensure that you get the
help you need. Also I cannot stress this
enough. Do not be annoyed if you get 60% in
a test and not 80%. The grading system is
significantly different to secondary school and
60% is an amazing mark to get.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose to do an Arts degree in DkIT because it
incorporated a unique aspect that had and
still has not been seen in other courses, the
use of digital technology and skills to enrich
the students in the modern world.
Describe a typical day at college:
A typical day in college involves me waking at
half 7 for my bus at ten past 8, taking approx.
half an hour to get from where I live to DkIT.
Generally, my lectures go from 9 in the
morning to 5pm, with time for breaks
between or potentially earlier days permitting
the timetable. On Wednesday's, I engage with
students on my newspaper society (The
Institute DkIT) and on Thursday's I do fencing
with the fencing society's 7pm approx.
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:
Fencing
The Institute DkIT- Newspaper Society
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
I enjoy mainly the hustle that is part of college
life day in, day out, especially when reporting
on student matters for our college newspaper
regarding events and activities that are
occurring.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
My plans for the future are still unclear, at the
moment I am considering going into teaching
History and English to secondary school

students, although I do also like the idea of
pursuing a masters and potentially doing
something else.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
1. Have an open mind. Be ready for anything
to be discussed in a lecture
2. Tying in with my first point, be prepared to
fully engage with the discussion that will be
had with the lecturers, and don't be afraid to
speak out on something.
3. Be prepared. Read a lot. Prepare your
assignments on time. The arts course in DkIT
especially in first year is lax on exams to give
you a chance to engage with the texts and
fully engage in the assignments prepared for
you. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I have always had an interest in helping
people and when I came across this course I
found the collection of all the modules really
fascinating. It excited me that I would also get
to go out and experience placement in the
area I was interested in. It was also an added
bonus that the course was so close to home.
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
One of the things a love most about student
life is getting to know and interact with new
students in the college and in my course. I
have made friends for life in DkIT and we
enjoy spending our downtime in the canteen
and at the snack box having a laugh and of
course we look forward to all the college
nights out.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I hope that in the future I will be working in
residential child care as I did my first work
placement there and it was one of the best
experiences of my life. I hope that when I
graduate I will be able to travel with my
degree and experience the world, as social
care is a universal degree. I would also like to
do a Masters Degree but I’m not quite sure
which one I would like to do because, with
this degree there is a variety of Masters you
can complete.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Don’t be afraid to ask a question, whether it is
in class or privately with your lecture The
lecturers are more than happy to help and
answer any queries you have.

Join clubs and society’s, they are a great way
to make friends and get involved in college
life.
Finally, avail of all the amazing student
services, they are there to help and it’s a great
idea to look into these and if you ever need to
use them in the future you will know where to
go.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I was a foster parent for many years, so i was
always interested in social care. I never
believed that I would have the opportunity to
study at DKIT as a social care student. In 2018
I applied to O’Fiaich College hoping to do a
PLC course in Applied Psychology and Social
Studies. I really enjoyed that year and it gave
me the confidence to continue into third level.
I have always wanted a career in Social Care
as it is so diverse, a student in social care will
have the skills to access a career in different
directions from residential care to working
with people with addictions. My interests lie
with support and education for parents whose
children are in or may go into foster care. As a
foster parent I was overwhelmed at the
positive outcomes achieved by parents when
they are given the supports needed.
Describe a typical day at college:
We meet in one of the coffee shops and
discuss the classes timetabled for that day
and a 'catch up' with friends.
Depending on what time our first class is, we
may go to the main canteen for breakfast.
Attend all lectures timetabled, and participate
in class.
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
The lecturers really care about the students,
this is evident in the support that is received. I
enjoy meeting all of my class and discussing
lectures. The campus feels like home to me.

Student Ambassador Profile 2020
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
As I am a mature student I wanted the
remainder of my working life to be fulfilling.
As a social care worker I plan to work with
parents whose children are in or may go into
foster care as a support worker.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
If at all possible do not miss lectures, if you
miss a lecture you will miss a lot and be on
time.
Do not leave assignments and projects until
the due date. If you do not research properly
the work will not be to the required standard
and will increase the stress.
Enjoy the facilities and groups on campus and
the time spent in DKIT.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I wanted to work in an occupation where I
could help people. Social care is a broad
degree that allows you to work with a range
of people in a variety of different professional
settings.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
After completing this course, I hope to work
as a social carer in child protection. I may also
go on to complete a Masters in social work.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
My main piece of advice is to be open minded
about the career paths you might take after
the course. As I said before, social care covers
a broad range of professions so I would
advise, make good use of their placement and
make sure it is varied.
Becca Owens McGivern

Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I came to study Social Care at DkIT because I
could not see myself doing anything else. I
have always wanted to help and support
people in any way I can. I am definitely a more
active person and I am known among my
friends for being positive and smiley most of
the time.
Describe a typical day at college:
My typical college day would be arriving to
DkIT at 8.20am in order to get parking. I then
meet my friends in the canteen for breakfast.
Depending on our timetables we go to our
lectures that we have that day and on our
breaks or maybe for an hour after our last
lecture, my friends and I may go to the library
to work on assignments.
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:
Currently I am not in any sports, clubs or societies but I do plan on joining the Comedy Club and going on the Surfing Trip to Bundoran in 2nd Year.
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
I enjoy the freedom to be who you are here in
DkIT. There are lots of positive things that
make my student life enjoyable but if I had to
narrow it down to one I'd have to say the
friends I made and the staff have made my
time here as a student very worthwhile. The
social events and nights out are also a plus.
Laura Slattery

Student Ambassador Profile 2020
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
After I have completed my course I want to
work in a residential care home for children
who, for whatever reason, have experienced
trauma and need care.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
I would advise new students to use the
academic resources available. Whether it is an
extra class on how to reference, the maths
clinic or IT support in the library. Especially,
make use of the free health clinic and
counselling services.
The second piece of advice is to get involved
in student life. Yes the academic side of
college life is really important but the college
offers so much in terms of clubs and societies,
guess speakers and student union events. I
believe that 1st year is the time to explore all
of it.
Finally, the third piece of advice I would say is
focus on the year you are in. Lecturers may
mention pieces of work that 3rd or 4th years
are doing and I have noticed that this can
stress students out a little bit but DkIT's
courses are a process so you progress through
the course year by year. You may feel that you
won’t be able for all that work, because I
know I did, but what you have to remember is
that you are only in 1st year you may not have
the skills and the professional/academic
language yet but you will. Have faith in
yourself.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I heard that the DKIT social care course was
renowned for providing a strong degree and
covering many different topics. The locality of
the college and the smaller class sizes also
appealed to me.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I would love to go into either working with
individuals with intellectual disabilities, or
working with children in residential care.

Why did you choose your programme of study?
I was a young person and have come through
youth work. I started volunteering and then
got a paid position. Then, I decided that it
would be best to get my degree. I really enjoy
it and love what I’m doing.
Describe a typical day at college:
I go in, meet up with my friends. We go to the
Snackbox to chill and get food. I use the
library a lot and the facilities are great. I also
go to class.
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
There is always something happening in DKIT
that the students can get involved in and
enjoy.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I hope to gain more experience and also
travel. I want to take my job with me. I know
it would be difficult but I would love to see
how youth work is done in different countries.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
It’s ok to be scared.
You will eventually find your way around the
campus.
Keep up to date with your assignments.

Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose to do youth work because when I was
younger I was involved in local youth centres.
I strongly believe they helped me grow as a
person throughout my adolescence years.
I want to be that person and help other young
people and create pathways for them to have
a brighter future, and to have the ability to
advocate on behalf of those young people
who need someone to express their voice or
opinions.
Describe a typical day at college:
For me personally, I like to keep on top of
notes within classes. I have a willingness to
learn so I spend time in the library where I get
books on loan in the on subjects I lack
knowledge in.
Lunch time is a great social space you have
many facilities to choose from with lots of
areas to sit and have lunch etc.
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:
I am currently not involved in any sports/societies/clubs in DKIT
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
It gave me the opportunity to meet new
people and form new friendships. The campus
has an amazing gym and pool and the tutors
and staff are very helpful.

What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
When I complete my course I hope to be
working full time in either residential or in
garda youth diversion projects.
I have a strong interest and passion in working
with disadvantaged communities and young
people at risk of re-offending or ending up in
the justice system.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Be confident, try to remain open minded and
most importantly be yourself. I think it is
important to know who you are as a youth
worker. Confidence is a big thing also, when I
first started, I wasn't very confident but
coming back from work experience placement
I valued myself a lot more and became
confident in who I am as a person and on a
professional level.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I have chosen to study ‘Community Youth
Work’ as I wish to gain a formal qualification
to help fulfil my aspiration to become a
professional qualified Youth Worker. I hope
the professional training and expertise will
support me in helping vulnerable young
people cope with the challenges they face. In
2012, I helped develop my local youth group
in Killean, a rurally isolated border region of
South Armagh. Given our proximity to
services, I strive to create opportunities for
local young people who are marginalized and
disadvantaged. This is why I want to do youth
work as I want to make a change for the
better!
Describe a typical day at college:
1st, TRY to get parking, go to the Snackbox and
meet up with classmates, go to class, go for
lunch and sometimes go to the library after
and do some work.
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:

What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
The craic within the collage, love my course
and I find that it is a great college overall. I
also like the Snackbox

What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Get involved in anything and everything, enjoy
your time here, keep on top of your work.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
On completion of a PLC level 5 in Community
youthwork, I knew that I had to go further as I
loved it and I felt that being from Dundalk,
DkIT was my best option.
Describe a typical day at college:
Typical day for me is to attend classes and go
to the library to get ahead with some
assignment work and not forgetting the
Snackbox for my munch 😀
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
The engaging with other students and the
comforting of staff that everything will be ok
if you attend classes. I also get great
enjoyment from the social aspects of college
and meeting new people.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
My plans are to go into the world of
youthwork, in the lines of youth justice or
school completion to help young people
conquer hurdles in their life.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?

Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose DkIT, originally because it is close to
home. This meant no absurd rent to pay. I
emailed the head of my current course, during
his summer holidays, to ask about it. He
offered to give me a tour of the campus. The
impressive facilities, practical class times,
friendly lecturer and small class sizes were the
main reasons I decided to attend.
I am doing BA in Culinary Arts, as food is a big
passion of mine. To learn from some of the
most knowledgeable lectures in the industry
was also a big draw. The lecturers are down to
earth and very approachable.
Describe a typical day at college:

What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I plan to work in the top restaurants in
Ireland, to hone my skills, then travel and
work in some of the best/most exciting
restaurants internationally. Learning is key for
this (and every) industry. When I have
improved, I hope to open my own restaurant.
That is the dream.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Get out of your comfort zone and put yourself
out there.
If you are in a position to socialize with a
stranger, but are too shy. Do it anyway, the
only thing worse than having done/said
something silly is the regret of saying nothing.
Keep on top of the work. There is not much
extra work in the course, until it builds up.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose my program because originally I didn’t
know what I wanted to do in college or in the
future even. I always liked baking and cooking
here and there but didn’t initially consider it.
After coming to the open day, one of the
culinary students brought me and my friends
to the back kitchen and told me all about the
course, what they did and what I would do,
and then I decided that day what I wanted to
do. Kind of confused my guidance teacher in
secondary school because I was considering
beauty courses at the time.
Describe a typical day at college:
My typical day is a 9-5 day. I would come to
college on the bus, most days I would have a
practical subject in the morning so I would
change into my uniform, finish my practical
and spend some time relaxing with my
classmates. Theory classes usually follow, I
would get some handouts or take down notes.
At 5pm I would catch my bus back home and
work a bit on the portfolios that I had to
complete.
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:
I didn’t get to sign up with the societies during the sign up day but I wanted to be part of the gaming club and the basketball team but due to the long hours in kitchens and class along with work, I never got around to it.

What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
Being able to connect with students on a daily
basis, over a coffee and such.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
My plans are to get a few years experience in
a high end or well known restaurant or hotel.
Stay if it's a good place but I would like to
travel and gain more experience in the
industry from other people and other places,
get a feel of what a countries cuisine is really
all about. I would come back with the newly
gained experience or go somewhere else and
set up my own place hopefully, and be able to
create what I want.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
The tutors and lecturers are always there to
talk to when needed so keep on track with
your work and assignments. As a class, work
together as a team because it's the same
people that you're going to work with for the
next 3 years.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
Because I was in college before and the
hundreds of students in a lecture hall and no
interaction with lecturers didn't suit my
learning style. I also enjoy writing and
video/photo editing software, and did a part-
time course in digital marketing last year. I
then decided to do it as a full time course.
Describe a typical day at college:
Check email, go to classes, eat food, hang out
with friends, go to the library, work on some
projects and then head to the gym
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:

What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
The people, because we all get on really well
as a class.
The lecturers, because they interact with the
class which is rare in colleges these days.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
I'll go for the add-on level 8 Global Marketing.
For a job, I'd like to work in a modern and
contemporary setting - maybe Google or a
pharmaceutical company. I'd also like to use
my language elective in a job role if possible,
and ideally to work for a company that would
offer 1 or 2 remote working days.

What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
1. Don't go too hard on yourself or put
yourself under pressure. Find time to relax

2. Ask for help if you need it - lecturers are
helpful and there are support services
available.

Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose Sport, Exercise and Enterprise as it
gave me so many potential options for after
college whether I want to be a PT in a gym or
work with Sport Ireland and be a Sports
Development Officer as well as giving me the
option to run my own business with all the
business qualifications we walk away with.
Describe a typical day at college:
I walk to college and get there about 8.40am. I
meet my friends by the main entrance. We
normally all get tea straight away because we
are always tired, we then ask each other
which class we have and what room because
normally only one of us remember. Any free
classes or breaks we have, we spend in the
MPC if its free, whether it’s a game of
basketball or squeezing in the corner kicking
about the ball we are always there. If it’s not
free we end up in the Snackbox.
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
I enjoy how there is always consistent
opportunities socially within or outside the
college organised by the student union. As
well as so many sporting opportunities/clubs
available for everyone creating great
friendships outside your course.

My plan when I`ve completed the course is to
work with Sport Ireland as well as Global

sport participation, no matter what

someone’s abilities or disabilities are.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
1) Keep on top of Logbooks (you`ll thank
yourself later).
2) As hard as it can be just go to class, it can
make the difference in your overall grade in
the long run.
3) Join a club/society it gives you so many new
opportunities and friendships outside your
course.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose sports, exercise and enterprise in DkIT
because it sounded like an amazing course
and I previously did a 2 years course in a PLC
at DIFE and got my Fitness Instructor award
there. DkIT gave me access to more
qualifications in sports and it also gave me
more experience in the fitness and sport
world through work experience. I grew up
loving everything about sport and being
involved in sports such as boxing and football.
So, this course gave me a chance to do
something I loved everyday and still learn
more about sport. It also gives me a
opportunity to open my own gym. I knew
some people that did this course before so
that was a plus and I had an idea of what to
expect from the course.
Describe a typical day at college:
It’s different for everyone.
For me, I meet up with friends before 9
o’clock, walk to class with them, then maybe
depending on what day, you might have an
hour break so you can go get food with
friends or go to the library and do
assignments.
Sometime we might have to leave the college
for class and go down to DkIT sport which is
about 15 minutes walk.
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:
None at the minute as I’m injured but hoping to join some sports in September.

socialising with my class and friends around
the campus as we have the freedom to

What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
To be honest, I don’t really know my future
after this course. All I know is it will probably
involve sport and fitness. I would like to get
into coaching more. I’m a boxing coach at my
boxing club at the minute but I would love to
get involved in soccer or Gaelic football. In the
future I just want to have a good job that I can
enjoy.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Plan out assignment don’t leave them to the
last minute.
Make sure they have a open mind and like to
try out new things.
Be prepared to meet new people.

Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose this programme because I am very
interested in sport and training. I also chose
this programme as there are many career
options and progressions. I also get the
opportunity to get GAA coaching awards and
different gym qualifications each year.
Describe a typical day at college:
Classes usually start at 9am each day with
breaks around 11 or 12 o’clock for an hour
where you can go to the canteen or Snackbox
for food, the library to do college work or to
the MPC to have a kick about or play
basketball with your mates. Most day’s classes
go on until 3/4pm but some days you could be
in until 5 and most Fridays you’ll only be in
until 12 and sometimes not in at all.

GAA Club, Class Rep.

What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Firstly, I would advise students to get involved
in clubs/societies and go on nights out as it
will really help them get the most out of
student life in DkIT. Secondly, get to know
your classmates as soon as possible as you will
be spending the next 3-4 years with each
other. The last piece of advice I would give to
students is to keep on top of assignments and
other college work because in this programme
you won’t be able to bluff your work or do any
work last minute.
Student Ambassador Profile 2020
Why did you choose your programme of study?
I chose sports, exercise and enterprise
because I can’t see myself doing anything else
in life apart from sport, health and fitness. It
was a very easy decision for me to make to go
to DkIT, as when I read what the course
involved it was just for me and I knew how
much I was going to like it. When I read the
opportunities and jobs I could get after
college it made me very excited and I knew
this was the right course for me.
Describe a typical day at college:
A typical day in college is, first thing in the
morning go meet your friends and head to
your first class or wait around for your first
class by going to the snack box or library.
After the morning classes we go for our lunch,
there is always something going on in college,
so there is always things to do. Having
practical classes is my favourite part of the
day. It’s when the class gels the best and
everyone has the best craic. A typical day in
college is always meeting people you know or
new faces. Also having many different classes
in the one day is a typical day at college.
What Sports / Clubs and Societies do you belong to:
GAA team and soccer team
What do you enjoy most about Student Life in DkIT:
I enjoy being able to come in every day and do
what I love best which is learning about health

the things I enjoy most about student life.
Joining the soccer team and Gaelic team was
one of the best things I could have done as I
got to meet so many different girls from all
different years who I have actually become
very good friends with. DkIT is a very friendly
and positive place and when you like making
new friends, getting involved in events or
activities and want to excel in life DkIT is so
enjoyable because it’s exactly what I was
looking for.
What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
My plans are to move abroad and bring my
knowledge of health and fitness with me and
be able to help people where ever I go. I
would love to be able to have my own
business whether it’s in training people or
owning my own gym. I would love to be able
to travel the world and doing live training
sessions.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
1. Make sure to read and know exactly what
the course involves as it is very academic as
well as practical as a lot of people didn’t
realise that in my course.
2. Get involved in as many events and
activities that the course will offer you.
3. Be open minded to all the modules that you
will do as in the moment you might feel like
you don’t need it but it will open other
opportunities for you and you never know
when you might need to know it in the future.

brilliant time and all the supports are
available to help make it a good time.

I would also encourage them to try out as
many different things as they can fit into their
schedule without over extending themselves

as there is always someone who can help.

together when needed. I sometimes stay back
and use the library to study before I head
home.

What are your plans for the future when you have completed your programme?
My plan after I graduate is to go start off
somewhere small in administration and work
and gain experience for the first few years
then later go into human resources and then
maybe go back and study and do my Masters
and try go into a manger role somewhere.
What three pieces of advice would you give to students coming to do your programme?
Advice I would give incoming first years would
be, to try their best to attend every class as
going to class will help your learning and
always keep you on top of your work. Also
keep up to date with all your assignments and
never miss deadlines as that will affect your
studies. As for leisure, there are always many
things to do within the college like join a
society or club and get to meet new people or
attend different events.
