FALL REGISTRATION AND CLASS SCHEDULES 2015

A Message From Our Dean

The dog days of summer are drawing to a close and a new academic year is on the immediate horizon. With this in mind, we hope this snapshot of Continuing Educa-tion offerings for Fall Semester will whet your interests to an extent that you will find a class that you just can’t wait to take.

We are excited to be able to offer a diversity of classes geared for lifelong learners of all ages, among them being Industrial Mainte-nance, Truck Driver Training, Automotive Maintenance and Basic Repairs, CPR, and Effective Teacher Training. Beginner Shagging is a new class offering that we will introduce in August. Digital photography classes have become wildly popular and Gloria Edwards is scheduled to return this fall to teach beginner, intermediate and advanced level classes. Having taken all three classes, I encourage anyone who aspires to become a better photog-rapher and better capture the beauty of the world around us to join the fun.

If you’ve not explored ed2go and the wide range of online courses provided through this great resource then you owe it to yourself to do so. More than 300 courses are available, most of which are affordably priced at $70. The great thing about ed2go is that it gives you the flexibility to learn whenever and wherever you choose. If you’re a morning person then doing your online lessons at 6:00am in your pajamas with a cup of coffee may be the perfect fit for you. Or, if you’re a busy parent, you can focus on your class assignments in peace and quiet after 10pm once the children are tucked in bed for the night. With ed2go, you are in the driver’s seat!

If you don’t find the class you’re looking for, please let us know. The great thing about Continuing Education classes is that we have the flexibility to offer all kinds of courses in all sorts of places as long as we have significant interest. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve your educational needs and we hope to see you this fall.

Ann Butler Dean of Continuing Education

EFFECTIVE SUBSTITUTE TEACHING

Substitute teaching is an important educational component in our schools. It is a rare teacher who never needs a substitute for either personal or professional reasons. Principals, teach-ers, parents, and students value a good substitute teacher. Research has shown that a student spends over one full year with a substitute teacher by the time they graduates from high school. Skilled substitute teachers can have a significant, positive impact on the quality of education while the perma-nent teacher is away.

Regardless of whether or not you are a certified teacher, you can still become an expert in substitute teaching. Successful teachers are those who have either consciously, or subconsciously, developed the skills that make them effective in the classroom. In other words, by learning certain skills, tech-niques, and methods, you can be a successful substitute teacher.
