    1. INTRODUCTION

    This drama competition is an event organized by the SBP, Ministry of Education. This years host for the

    English Drama Competition is Sek.Men.Sains Tengku Mohd.Faris Petra, Pengkalan Cepa. The primary

    aim of the competition is to encourage and motivate students to learn English through the work of art.

    2. OBJECTIVES

    o motivate and improves students command of English through drama.

    2.2 To encourage students to appreciate drama as a local art.

    o inculcate moral values among the students to be more sensitive

    2.4To incorporate responsibility and leadership quality among the students

    2.5To promote integration and inculcates self-discipline and teamwork.

    2.6To provide the opportunity for students to show their talents and creativity in the art

    of dramatization.

    2.7 For the students to express themselves in a positive and intellectual way.

    3. TARGET STUDENTS

    15 Form 4 students.

    5. COMPETITION RULES

    General Rules:

    * Each team comprises of a maximum of 15 participants: including the technical crew,

    stage manager, technical coordinator, set and prop assistant.

    Duration of stage performance is limited to 20 mins for each team

    The drama should incorporate at least one of the following themes:

    # Patriotism

    # Love

    # Socio-culture

    # Dynamism

    # Harmony

    # Historical events# Myths/Legends

    Guidelines

    Language:

    It is compulsory to use English language throughout the drama competition. Nevertheless,

    limited use of certain Malay registers is allowed.

    Use of vulgar words is strictly prohibited

    Scripts must not touch on sensitive issues such as race, religion, politics, colour

    personalities.

    Theme:* The drama must portray the selected theme(s)

    * Themes must not touch on sensitive issues

    Costume:

    * Participants should wear appropriate and decent clothes that suit the characters

    Sets and Props:

    * Minimise use of sets and props

    * Sets and props should not hinder the movement of the player

    on stage

    * Use of sharp objects, fire, inflammable and dangerous chemical substances is

    prohibited* Each team is responsible for the setting up (5 mins) and clearing

    of sets and props (5 mins)

    Music:

    * Each team should have technical assistant(s) to coordinate music

    Duration of Time:

    * Time allocated for each presentation is 20 mins.

    * Timing of the presentation starts with the first movement, first word uttered or any

    sound effects.

    7.CONCLUSION

    As the primary aim of this drama competition is to inculcate the love for the English

    language, the support and encouragement from the teachers, advisors and

    administrators hopefully will further motivate students to use English effectively in their

    everyday life thus upgrading their fluency and command of English.
