Sales have grown rapidly in the past 2 years to all parts of Australia, the temperate as well as the tropical zones. Exports are also beginning to build as the world of agriculture comes to understand just how very important is the presence of a healthy flora of biology in soil and the need to feed it

Transfer Tuna to sea-farms
Availability of quality raw material is the essential.
The primary source is from the tuna farming in S.Australia – 5000mt of tuna quota, 5 months to fatten and grow to 9,000mt and 2000mt of tuna offal available to SAMPI. A tuna farm is also being established right now in Lankawi (Lankawi Tuna) using Australian know how and vessels.

Cannery Raw Material
Processing Fresh offal
The other major source of raw material is the tuna cannery next door. 42% of the tuna can be canned, the balance which are heads and guts are sent to SAMPI to be turned to liquid fish.It appears the Malaysian government is embarking on a path of re-establishing the tuna unloading ports and canneries that were once important to Malaysia but which got neglected so allowing Thailand to take over this commercially interesting activity. This means a source of raw material for future production in Malaysia of hydrolsyate.

This is the SAMPI factory. It is old and very basic but we don’t need much more than that. A large shed and concrete floor is enough to house the operation.
We see Peter Laughton filling 200ltr drums, the red tanks are 30,000ltrs each and we have storage for 650,000ltrs. Bottom right are 1000ltr shuttles which are the most common form of packaging

S.A.M.P.I.S.A.M.P.I.S.A.M.P.I.Production Process
The process is described in this drawing. It basically replicates our bodies own method of digesting food. Teeth mince the meat, stomach enzyme digests it and, if it is efficiently digested, it comes out within 24 hrs as a slurry.
Material is delivered fresh, it is minced, it is blended with a stabilising agent to reduce ph to 3.5, it is warmed to accelerate the digestion process, it is sieved to 100micron and the result is hydrolysate with 5-15% oil. From that base we can extract oil to produce hydrolysate NO oil which has all the nutrients of the WITH oil but is most ‘user friendly’ since it does not stratify so does not need agitating and it does not block small irrigation holes due to the oil.The omega rich oil is a health supplement for humans and animals alike. We also add back 10% to the hydrolysate 5-15% to elevate the oil to 15-20% and that becomes a highly performant animal health supplement.
We have recently stopped calling our product ‘emulsion’ because emulsion can be made from boiling fish waste or fish meal at high temperatures with added water –this is inferior. Ours is classified as ‘hydrolysate’ because it uses naturally occuringenzymes and the process never exceeds 50degC which mean nutrients are not de-natured! So, it is most important to understand there are quality differences!

Hydrolysate with OilBeneficial for Microbial and Fungal growth
The no oil product is most often used in trickle irrigation such as seen top left. The with oil is used when boom sprays or large sprinkler systems are used. Both types work well – some farmers appreciate the easy to use nature of the ‘no oil’, others insist on having the oil content for the fungal growth benefits.
The fish is very effective as a foliar spray or direct to the soil. Top right, the field will be treated at time of seeding, bottom left some healthy looking bananas given regular doses of fish.

•Improved sow lactation
•Increased health of sucklings
•Increased virility in Boars
As said, we are nearing the end of 9 month trials by chicken and pig growers using hydrolysate 15-20% oil at a rate of 6% added to their normal feed. Results are proving remarkable. Chicken mortalities reduced 10 fold, eggs contain good levels of omega 3 and selinium levels, eggs require less cleaning and egg size does not reduce during hotter periods when chickens normally stress.Sows are lactating better and palatability of their feed is improved so they return to full diets sooner after birthing. Piglets are benefiting from all this and so growing faster and heavier. All this means a lot in dollar terms and also good health of animal and human alike.

Organically Certified Hydrolysate (fish Emulsion) * Is an organic fertiliser and soil revitaliser produced from fresh tuna * Is 100% pure liquid fish & contains a wide spectrum of major nutrients and trace elements in organic plant available form * Retains all the nutrients, trace elements, vitamins etc. that were present in the raw fish and is very effective as a livestock feed additive
* Can be used as a foliar spray and also for ground application * Has a non-offensive smell, is easy to handle and simple to apply by spray equipment & fertigation * Is suitable for MOST soils, pastures, crops, ornamentals and vegetables * Is environmentally friendly and safe to plants
Pasture Apply spring and autumn in moist conditions morning OR afternoon 10-20L/ha diluted 10:1. Dairy and beef: rotational grazing, apply 7 days after grazing at 5-7L/ha – additional nitrogen may be added, 5-10kg/ha dissolved in 200ltrs water. Field Crops + Vegetables 20-40L/ha at pre-planting diluted min 10:1. Foliar spray 5-7L/ha at 10-21 day intervals at 50:1 dilution. Apply in moist conditions. Orchards and Vines Apply inter row to soil or grass/clover cover in spring and autumn through field jet 10-20L/ha diluted min 10:1. Foliar sprays: apply through high volume sprayers morning or afternoon in moist conditions at 5-10L/ha diluted 100:1. Up to 5 applications through growing period – may be added to nutrient sprays. Nurseries Apply every 10-21 days at 5-10mls/ltr of water to foliage up till point of run-off. Higher rates 10-20ml/ltr applied to soil pre-plant
Livestock Feed additive with 15-25% tuna oil Approx 6% added and mixed with usual feed. Improves general health, increases palatability and weight gain, improves coat condition. 98.5% digestibility, introduces omega oils and selenium to eggs and meat. Not to be fed to ruminants at present
READ BEFORE USING -Stir well before using -Use filter socks where applicable -Field or flood jets may be used to apply to pasture etc -Do not apply undiluted or in the heat of the day -May be mixed with water in bucket prior to pouring through filter in top of tank -Wash equipment soon after use -Do not store in diluted form -may be used with herbicides and pesticides, however, biological balance may be affected. -May be applied with other biological stimulants to enhance results; do not mix concentrates; add to tank solution separately. If in doubt check the ph compatibility -Lesser amounts applied more frequently will give best results -when applied with other products always check compatibility by jar testing a small amount at equivalent concentrations -fish oil component may become waxy at cold temperatures -fish hydrolysate is a natural product. Each batch may vary slightly. Its structure may change over time or under varying storage conditions. Every care is taken during manufacture. The manufacturer and its agents accept no responsibility for injury, damage or consequent loss arising from its use or misuse once product leaves the factory.

This is the basic information sheet we offer. Important to note the analysis – not huge in any of the elements but the full range is there in plant available form and that’s what plants need to grow well. The basic premise is to dilute well and use a little bit often. Simply put, we can’t eat 10 steak at one sitting and the bacteria can’t either so it is most effective when given regularly in smaller doses. The read before using is most important and so it is to talk with your sales representative before commencing to use it.

Price vs. Other fertilisers
• Chemical fertilisers becoming very expensive; larger quantities required for same result
• Sustainable, reduced applications over time
• Beneficial to soil health
• Beneficial to human health !!
• Non – contaminating, natural and organic
• Protects waterways from contamination, de-oxygenation, pollution
Cost savings, Environmental Protection, Better Health
All these points are so true and important to our lives and our world but the last point is often overlooked. So many of our waterways – rives, lakes, drinking water, sea ways are being damaged by chemical fertilisers polluting the waterways and inhibiting or preventing the health existence and growth of fish life which is also such an important food source for us – both naturally occuring and aquacultured. We need a healthy soil to grow health food and we need healthy water to grow health seafood!

Our plan is to supply the Malaysian market from Australia with the basic fish hydrolsyate. In the second phase there will be a need to provide value added variations and eventually we would expect to produce in Malaysia utilising what we believe is abundant fish waste material.

Hydrolysate Inoculated with Soil-beneficial Microbes
Vermiculture
Composting
Value added may mean supplementing fish with kelp or phosphate rock powder or as shown above, innoculating fish with soil bacterias to add back or enhance biological life to the soil. Or, expansion of vermiculture in Malaysia where the fish is a useful food source to the worms and bacteris or expanding composting where the fish addition accelerates composting.

“The power of population is so superior to the power of the earth to produce subsistence for man, that premature death must in some shape or other visit the human race. The vices of mankind are active and able ministers of depopulation.
They are the precursors in the great army of destruction, and often finish the dreadful work themselves. But should they fail in this war of extermination, sickly seasons, epidemics, pestilence, and plague advance in terrific array, and sweep off their thousands and tens of thousands. Should success be still incomplete,
gigantic inevitable famine stalks in the rear, and with one mighty blow levels the population with the food of the world.”
This "Principle of Population" depended on the idea that population if unchecked increases at a geometric rate (i.e. 2, 4, 8, 16, etc.), whereas the food supply grows
at an arithmetic rate (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.).
Thomas Malthus,
1766-1834
Finally and without wishing to be a ‘profit of doom’, it is worth remembering that Sir Thomas Malthus, economist of almost 200 years ago did the statistical survey and correctly concluded that whilst population was growing at a geometric rate, food production was only growing at an arithmetic rate. The result would have been famine, wars, ill health and more. What he could not foresee was the advancements in science and technology that allowed far greater efficiencies in farming to create far greater yields and allow less productive lands to be cropped. That has been very true but, at what cost and where have chemical fertilisers, herbicides, pesicides and gmo’s lead us?Possibly down the garden path to the destruction of mother earth’s soil life. Not just in Malaysia but everywhere in the world, more chemical fertilisers must be used at a much higher cost and more pesticides and herbicides must be used at greater cost. The collapse of the soil may occur very suddenly and then Sir Thomas’s predictions will come true.
Science and technology now can tell us how soil works and lives and we must translate that into a more productive return to ‘non toxic’ farming for the sake of the good health of mother earth and ourselves.
Now let’s look forward to the interesting part of this seminar which Mr Amor will present.
