• Same process as in picture books where meaning resides in the interactions or transactions between illustration and text.
• Reader constructs a richer representation and interpretation of the story.
Results of Supporting Manga
• Students characterized themselves as avid readers.

• GNC student initiative was to give Book Talks – Students were instructed to select a
favourite series, but not a popular one everyone already knew e.g. not Naruto
– Take turns presenting their book– Students were to stand while

• Even though students were shown this site, they were very reluctant to enter a review
• Also, Shonen Jump stopped including a puzzle: what to do with
the “hot” Yu-Gi-Oh! Card?• Created a paper version of Read It!

• Number of reviews submitted increased with the value of the current card available
• Best review wins the card and first read of Shonen Jump issue
• Worthy reviews edited/corrected by Dr. Mac– entered by another student to the site in
exchange for Community Hours
