Samaritan’s Purse Volunteer Teams Bring Relief and Comfort to Sandy Victims in New York and New Jersey BOONE, N.C., Nov. 5, 2012—As residents along the East Coast struggle to recover from the fury of Hurricane Sandy, disaster response teams from the international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan's Purse are on the ground offering assistance and encouragement to devastated communities. The organization is working closely with local churches in the New Jersey counties of Atlantic, Ocean and Bergen, and Nassau County in New York. Hundreds of volunteers are putting tarps on roofs, cutting fallen trees, cleaning debris and removing mud and water from flooded homes. Relief efforts are focused on those who are least able to help themselves - including the poor, elderly and uninsured. "We are here offering our prayers and our helping hands for the victims of this ferocious storm," said Samaritan's Purse President Franklin Graham, who visited storm survivors in Ocean County, New Jersey, on Saturday. "The destruction is overwhelming, and the people desperately need our help. They need our prayers, and they need our support." Each unit serves as a base of operations for Samaritan's Purse staff and volunteers.
