main product and ancillary texts?

How have the two ancillary tasks impacted each other?

• The key way that the two ancillary tasks have had an influence towards the construction of the other is through the use of key information which is found familiarly in other media products, such as the inclusion of the date and channel that the documentary will air on. This adds a consistent and professional feel to the ancillary tasks, which develop an association between them as the topic, title and channel are the same.

Another way is by using the same star vehicle across both of the pieces, with a picture of Eddie Mitchell used in the poster and an audio clip from an interview with him on BBC 5Live in the radio trailer. This ensures the association between the two is maintained.

• A further way is the way in which my poster effectively deindividuates my target audience to see themselves as ‘one of the club’, therefore making them more likely to watch something that they feel connected to. As this was done in my poster I also opted to use this in my radio trailer to ensure connectivity.

• The use of aural signifiers is also due to this, using the ‘We Love You Bournemouth’ chant in my radio trailer is effective as my target audience are likely to have heard these chants before and therefore identify well with them.

What influence did the ancillary tasks make to my final piece?

• An influence that my poster made to my final piece was that the use of iconography was maintained in both after it was effective on the poster, therefore keeping the attachment between the documentary and the target audience.

• The radio trailer influenced my final piece by highlighting the importance of background music, which was poor and generic in my radio trailer. It is used more effectively in the documentary and connotes mood.

• The inclusion of my target audience across all three of my pieces (image of fans in poster, fans chanting in radio trailer, both of these in final piece) is a useful way of increasing interest in the documentary as the target audience feel like they are apart of the project.

I used a similar a colour scheme to that of the club that the documentary is based on, in order to obtain colour consistency throughout the piece. This use of red is consistent throughout both my poster and my documentary, and was used in aspects such as the legends that were used to introduced inteviewees.

What influence did the ancillary tasks make to my final piece?

A feature of my newspaper advert that was particularly effective was the inclusion of the AFC Bournemouth badge in the centre of the poster; a motif that is also used frequently throughout my documentary. This was chosen due to the large audience that the football club has, and I attempted in order to attract a majority of that audience in hope that their love of the football club would cause interest in watching the documentary.I opted to choose a southern accent for the voice-over in the trailer for a similar reason; the target audience are more likely to identify with accents similar to their own.
