Alec Monopoly

‘Alec Monopoly’ is the alias of an unidentified graffiti artist, originally from New York City. The artist primarily works in the urban environments of New York and Los Angeles, using varied materials (including stencils, spray paint, epoxies, varnishes and newspapers) to subversively depict the protagonist of the internationally-beloved board game, Monopoly. ‘Alec’ cites his artistic origins as learning from his mother, an artist, eventually abandoning traditional academically-driven art classes to pursue an individual methodology. ‘Alec’ and his work have been covered by Brooklyn Street Art, The Huffington Post, The Wooster Collective (New York), Juxtapoz Magazine, and The Dirt Floor.com. Recently, Paramount Pictures commissioned Alec to design the logo for their new production company, Insurge. Alec lives and works in Los Angeles and is the resident artist of the Playboy Mansion.

Carleen de Sozer

After winning several art awards, Carleen De Sözer realized that she could make a living from selling her art to the public. In the summer of 2000 Carleen landed smack bang in the heart of busy Portobello Market, with a backpack full of hand painted pictures on canvas boards. Her Afro wearing characters soon became her trademark, she put these cool characters onto T-shirts and just about anything else you could wear. She quickly became a well-known fixture to Portobello Market. In 2006 Carleen started a personal airbrushing service where she would visit shops and present her 'AIRBRUSH UR GARMS' days, airbrushing customers clothes on the spot. Carleen has built a reputation as a well-respected airbrush artist, being one of very few women in the world of airbrush artist receiving orders internationally. Making big waves with her latest collection Carleen De Sozer is widely regarded as one of London’s most skilled and diverse airbrush artists. Hailing from London this gritty artist has found a place on the London art scene with her highly appealing freehand and stenciled airbrush pieces. Over the last 12 years Carleen has been consistent in supplying art in many formats, from graphic design to airbrushing, from logos to cd covers, from canvas to walls, from t shirt design to teaching her talent to the youth...it's fair to say that Carleen loves her job. Ask her what she does for a living and she'll comfortable state "I supply art for a living".

DD$

Double D's (DD$) is a trio of artists that wildly construct the language of L.A.'s

transitional experience. Established in 2005, their work addresses sex, drugs, fame

and Hollywood idealism. They ask what it means to be iconic, fabulous, and cool –

most importantly, why it even matters. Each piece developed by DD$ is a three way

collaboration. A piece is passed from artist to artist over the course of hours, days or

weeks, before completion. DD$'s work utilizes symbols, vibrant colours, bold use of

lines, and free flow artistry – culminating in an organic style. With their interpretation

of culture through satire and pop surrealism, the collective creates a means for

society to humbly digest Los Angeles. They have been influenced by the culture,

street art, gang graffiti, and unrest that makes Los Angeles tick. Other significant

influences include artists Rene Magritte, Barry McGee, KAWS, Jeff Koons, Walt

Disney, Charles Shultz, and Bill Waterson, also, their friends and contemporaries

such as Gosha Levochkin and David Flores. Most of DD$ first series of artwork has

been lost, stolen, or, most likely -- sold for drugs. This is their second series.

Darren West

Darren West is an established Sussex based neon sign maker and contemporary artist. He is a master craftsman of the 100 year old trade of neon glass blowing and has transformed his traditional commercial work of neon signs into extraordinary and illuminating art. Starting at the age of 17 and studying at the British School of Neon, Darren has learnt this rare trade after many years of training and learning and has been supplying neon signage ever since. He is now delving deeper into the world of wall based neon art and sculptures and he is producing some of the most eye-catching, dazzling and unforgettable pieces which harmonize and compliment the modern art world.

Dom Pattinson

Born in 1969 Dom followed his passion for art through his education gaining a BA Hons at the Winchester School of Art and an MA at the Glasgow School of Art. Training as an artist after leaving college he found himself working in the craft of boat building, where he showcased his craftsman skills on the set of Casino Royale. After visiting Northern Ireland when Dom was younger he discovered the raw urban art created on the walls, telling the stories of everyday people, objects and the events that take were taking over daily life. Inspiration led to the development of mixed media pieces that form Dom’s very distinctive style of art. Each subject can relate to everyone; to look at the painting and create your own response to his views is what excites and makes his work extremely sought after. Experimenting with printmaking and painting, Dom Pattinson captures the essence of daily regimes intermingled with sparks of satire and idealistic visuals of ‘a day in the life’.

Dotmasters

Dotmaster is the offspring of C6.org - a subversive digital art group formed in the

90´s. The work has been an anonymous art practice which spans over a decade and

a half, producing a steady stream of propaganda. Less about the reclaiming of

space, but the belief that each of us have their own place within it. Known for his

meticulous craft and detailed stenci l cutting, the multi-coloured work appears photo-

realistic and tackles subjects as diverse as bin bags and burlesque girls in his own

brand of social commentary. Works in alleyways in Bethnal Green stand in stark

contrast with the paintings in the multi-million pound houses of Majorca or London.

These large-scale commissions have featured in numerous magazines such as Elle

Decoration, Architectural Digest, Forbes and Paris Match. The Dotmasters were

included in both Banksy's Cans Festival and recently "Exit through the gift shop" and

continue to co-produce the Nuart festival in Norway.

Elmo Hood

Elmo Hood is an artist who rooted from the streets of South London. Born in 1989 in Southampton he lived and studied before going to Bath University in 2007 pursuing a career in basketball which. Elmo always had a passion for art and drawing from a young age. It wasn't until Elmo moved to London in 2010 that he discovered his artistic skills drawing inspiration from street art and galleries of Notting Hill and East London. As a new artist Elmo's work is still developing. The sole aim of his work is to evoke emotion; often combining dark humour with powerful political and philosophical messages. Blessed with a skilled eye for colour Elmo uses both dark greyscale effects along with his trademark bright backgrounds. His favoured technique is stencils created from free hand drawings and original photography.

Eyesaw

Eyesaw has an underlying passion for subvertising advertising and reclaiming public space. He views all advertising in public space as his enemy… Poor design, lack of imagination and the lies that we are force fed by greedy advertisers is what inspires his work. Eyesaw’s ability to think outside the box has enabled him to push the boundaries and explore new ways of engaging with audiences in the streets. His bus top si lhouettes have gained a lot of attention around the world and Eyesaw shows no signs of slowing down and is still at large. His gallery work often combines reclaimed advertisements juxtaposed with amusing anecdotes…It is also reassuring to know that all funds raised from his gallery work are used to fight against ‘advertising terror’.

Gregory Siff

Gregory Siff is an American artist whose work blurs the boundaries between Pop Art

and abstract-expressionism, with a little bit of street art thrown in for good measure.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Gregory has been bi-coastal for the past ten

years, but officially made Los Angeles home in 2009 where he has since established

himself as ‘one to watch’ in the LA art scene. He has garnered a strong following

among the Hollywood community as well as holding his own in the street art scene.

In 2011, he was commissioned to paint some of LA’s most notorious walls, including

The Standard Hotel in Downtown LA and De La Barracuda on Melrose, with his

simplest, yet deeply emotional work. In addition to exhibiting in LA and NY, he has

shown his work in London, Dublin, Italy and Vancouver. Siff’s work has also

appeared in Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine, Paper Mag, The LA Times, Complex

and Glamour.

In addition to being an artist, Gregory is an actor and writer currently in pre-

production on his first feature film paint, which explores the life of a modern day van

Gogh set against the backdrop of the New York and L.A. art scene. “I make paintings to hang on your wall, play characters you meet in your dreams, and write stories you heard when you were falling asleep as a kid. I am a force in the world like my father.”

Mengyu Chen

Menghu Chen was born and raised in Taiwan. Being herself is to be creative. She was a reclusive and dreamy kid. Her dad is an inventor and her mom is a school teacher. Both of her parents had great impact on me today. She was growing up surrounded by pictures of Catholic images and dolls. She has been practicing thinking creatively since she was a child. She has been creating and making art the whole time through her college years. She was into graffiti art, comic books, and Surrealism. She has had a solo show- The Stage before attending school in America. Not until she went to America and got her MFA in illustration, she discovered her true passion is to create the whimsical images that involved psychological minds and issues in this world.

Matthew Knight

Belfast‘s Matthew Knight, is starting to make a name for himself lately with shows in Amsterdam and Dublin. His work can be found on an array of surfaces from the streets to abandoned buildings. The Ballygowan native paints characters and designs filled with crazy amounts of detai l and patterns. Knight grew up in Pakistan and this had a huge impact on him, ‘ I experienced one hell of a crazy and wonderful upbringing. The influence that country had on me has never diminished.’ He explains how the troubles also were a real eye opener when he returned to Belfast. ‘The first I learned of the Troubles or any religious background that I had was on the flight over 2 hours before my plane landed. I was so used to Eastern culture that Western culture has always felt quite alien to me. So I draw from all those experiences putting that into each and every character I create.’ ‘I like my grey backgrounds as it reflects how dull the backgrounds can be compared to the characters in them where I concentrate all the colour. As my style develops you can expect alot more detail to come. Dots, patterns, collections, collage 2D and 3D elements will continue to feature more and more as I go.’

Milo

Although working across a broad range of media, Milo is currently best known for his

intricate collages of skulls, pistols and machine guns constructed from children’s

stickers. On initial viewing these pieces deliver an instant visual hit. However on

closer inspection and further reflection they reveal a take on Pop Art that’s

subversive, childlike and irreverent. A Cleethorpes lad by birth (don’t hold that against

him) Milo is an adopted Londoner having spent the last 20 years in the capital,

originally studying fashion illustration and promotion at Epsom School of Art.

Influences include early Hip Hop, eighties club culture, surrealism, Jeff Koons,

Damien Hirst.

Arts in Oporto University.

Performs individual and collective exhibitions since 1999in various galleries, won

many awards and honorable mentions and it’s represented in many private and

combination of different visual languages.

In this fusion of styles, the artist reinterprets the preexisting comics language

watching a resurgence of colors and characters.

His paintings are materialized in a clear and proper personal horizon, a bit like a

montage, featuring a world of creation and change, a graphic symbol to combine

comics and painting.

Phil Bedford

Phil Bedford has been designing for the music, fashion and advertising industries for nearly two decades – everything from album cover art to T shirt designs, to award winning advertising campaigns. His lifelong obsession with typography is evident in his work which started with a teenage passion for graffiti and street art. Along with strong typography, his work often uses montages to create effects; layering, sampled art and imagery, drawn from his collection of vintage ephemera. Phil’s designs have featured in many publications including Los Logos, Rethink and Destroy: Rankin. This year sees him combining his interest of typography and montage with his love of music in a series of canvases and prints that focus on song lyrics and the imagery they project. Phil is currently working on collaborations with notorious street artist Inkie.

Tee Wat

Graffik Gallery’s bestselling resident street artist Tee Wat's work is composed of

equal undertones of controversy and humour. With his acutely trained media eye and

incisive irony Tee Wat's murals and canvases confront our indulging consumer

society with spray-can painted satire. In his unique brand of Pop, Pap and Pulp Tee

Wat has captured the hearts of many and those are all eagerly awaiting to see what’s

next. Within his repertoire are portrayals of gangsters, multi-nationals, evolution,

politics, religion, the class system and general Mickey taking in a stenciled bow of

wry subversion. What perhaps is most understated is that he does not require a

production team. All his ideas are original and he cuts his own stenci ls. Tee Wat is a

modern master craftsman who shuns the limelight and instead lets his work do the

talking. He specialises in stencils but also wheat pastes and many other forms of

street art including road signs and billboards along with mock adverts. Despite his

modesty, Tee Wat's work has shone through with a piercing edge, which means his

stenciling onslaught can be considered some of the most interesting and

sociologically lively work on the streets of London today. He can guarantee to

brighten up the ever grim days with a smile, striking at the very heart of our consumer

society. Utilising the streets and gallery walls as his canvas, this master of the stencil

with his first solo exhibition, will find appeal from the most seasoned street arts

connoisseur to the street art novice whose only experience with aerosols is a

deodorant.
