WELCOMEto our 2019 fleckvieh Bull offering

We would like to say THANK YOU to our customers and visitors for thinking of us in your Fleckvieh needs. It’s your input and conversations about your operations that assist us in building Fleckviehs to generate profit for you. This marks our 29th year of breeding Full Fleckvieh Simmentals. Our 100 head cow herd is of German and Austria Fleckvieh breeding.

Fleckvieh demand continues to surge here at Brink Genetics and the big advantages it brings to the table of everyday beef production is very unique in its ability to generate profit in more than one characteristic. Maternal power, efficient performance power, carcass power, and longevity power are what we set our goals around.

This crop well exemplifies our breeding program with their sound and lean muscular confirmation and uniformity in kind. We have used the Stauffer Ultra sound program which has given us much accuracy for generations. All but only a few bulls of this year’s offering are grade choice and the majority of the group has excellent scan data.

Our unique line breeding program is based around our dominant females, and tying them together through their sons. We keep a young herd bull battery by retaining sons out of our lead females each generation. Our selection criteria is based around fertility, structural soundness, body size, muscling, marbling, direct and maternal calving ease, performance, udder and milk quality, disposition, fleshing ability, and longevity. We cannot stress enough the importance of developing a strong cow herd.

With our line breeding program, you as the customer get the big boost in heterosis, as well as the offspring uniformity. We have customers reporting 50-125 lbs. improvement in weaning weights, as well as bringing the bottom end of their calf crop up to the middle, which calculates more profit.

Bulls listed are Diluter free which means there will be no gray calves out of black cows unless stated different. We are also offering twelve polled bull in this year’s sale.

sale procedure is as follows:

Brink fleckvieh sired offspring

data collected from the 2018 calf crop

Owner: Creative Genetics Breeder: Svatos Cattle 97 Steers 87% Choice 7% Prime ADG: 4lbs No yield grade 4’s Yield: 67.1%, the HIGHEST EVER reported at JBS

Owner/Breeder: Lovejoy Cattle 87 Steers 12 Months Old 1351lb Avg. Weight 87% Choice 3.05 Yield Grade

The Maternal Calving Ease index score we find

very important as our customers breed and select

for strong maternal performance. The cow should

have the ability to give birth to a calf that is 6-7%

of her body weight. As we push for accelerated

lean performance, choice marbling at less than

14 months old, and no yield grade discounts, the

female that can birth offspring 6-7% of her body

weight, with no complications, helps reach your

production goal. The ability of generating 100lbs

per month enables having the slaughter animals

off the feed bill sooner, meaning less feed and time

of ownership thus creating more profit. If you are

selling weaners, set your goal, seven months of age

weights at 700lbs. These Fleckvieh sired calves

have less external body fat with more muscle and

still achieve choice marbling, which makes them an

excellent choice for the English bred females.

A Word From Your Producer

Feedback from Our CustomersOn January 20, 2016 we sold a load of fall born steers that were born October 1st through November 1st. They were 14 ½ to 15 ½ months old and weighing 1490lbs – 1585lbs. These steers were ½ - ¾ Fleckvieh influenced. Knife cut at two weeks of age and never given an implant. We fed them a TMR ration of snaplage, high moisture corn, DDGS, hay and mineral.

Jason & Adam KreidermacherAltura, Minnesota

Been using Brink Fleckvieh bulls since 2004

We run moderate framed angus cows. The Fleckvieh bulls from Brink Fleckvieh have proven to be a great cross. By only changing the bull in our program, our first calf crop averaged 87lbs more than the previous two years. Other than the growth, the major thing that caught my eye was the bottom end of the calves disappeared and seemed to be placed in the middle. The heifers we have kept have been very fertile and docile mothers with plenty of milk. I will continue to use Brink Fleckvieh bulls in our program.

Jon Baker / Baker Livestock Harper, Iowa

Been using Brink Fleckvieh since 2010 We run 1050 Angus cows. Since using Brink Fleckvieh bulls we’ve added 60lbs – 80lbs to our weaning weights, with no increased calving problems. The extra weight and accelerated performance has improved our profitability by selling more pounds per cow exposed to Brink Fleckvieh bulls. Our half-blood Fleckvieh females are outperforming their Angus dams. Chris LoveJoy Winner, South Dakota

Been using Brink Fleckvieh since 2010

My trailer load of steers, sired by Brink Z245, averaged 1380lbs at 13 months of age with no implants. They topped the market at auction in Kalona, Iowa.

EPD - Expected Progeny Difference – The expected difference in performance of a bull’s progeny compared to the performance of another sire’s progeny. In other words, EPDs for one animal are meaningless until they are compared to EPDs of another animal.

% Rank- Based on percentages, this indicates where a bull’s EPD ranks him in the entire population of the respective Fullblood Simmentals. (Note, Purebred Simmentals and Fullblood Simmentals each have their own specific data bank.)

CED or CE - Calving Ease Direct is the difference in percentage of unassisted births when a sire is bred to first-calf heifers. A higher number is desirable.

BW - Birth Weight EPD predicts the difference in average birth weight of a bull’s calves compared to calves of another bull. Reported in pounds, a lower number is desirable.

WW - Weaning Weight EPD predicts the difference in average 205-day weight of a bull’s progeny compared to calves of another bull. Reported in pounds, a higher number is desirable.

YW - Yearling Weight EPD predicts the difference in average 365-day weight of a bull’s progeny compared to progeny of another bull. Reported in pounds, a higher number is generally desirable.

MCE - Maternal Calving Ease is expressed as a difference in percentages of unassisted births of a sire’s daughters as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires. Reported as a percentage, a high value is desirable.

Milk - The milk EPD predicts the difference in average 205-day weight of a bull’s daughters’ calves compared to the calves from daughters of another bull. Reported in pounds, ideal milk values depend heavily upon the nutritional environment of the herd.

MWW - Maternal Weaning Weight This EPD predicts the Weaning Weight of a bull’s daughters’ progeny and reflects both the milking ability of a bull’s daughters and the growth potential of their calves. Reported in pounds, higher numbers are generally desirable.

All-Purpose Index (API) - expressed in net dollars returned per cow exposed, evaluates Simmental sires being used on the entire cowherd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with a portion of the daughters retained for breeding and the steers and remaining heifers fed and sold a carcass grade and yield basis. With the exception of shear force (tenderness), all EPDs are considered in this index.

Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.

F800 - 800 is a concentrated version of the 648 cow which shows up three times in his lineage. We flushed his dam 657 after calving 800. This guy is the result of our youngest generation of parents. 800 ranks in top the 25% in 10 categories in his epd profile. 800 has good confirmation and ultra sound data.

F808 ET - 808 is a result of 22 year old frozen embryo from the great Anita 152X cow, which was one of our foundation females and a granddaughter of the famous German bull Haxl. Anita was the foundation cow in Brink Romeo N338, a past herd sire. Romeo’s influence is in most of our females today. 808 represents some of the long standing proven individuals of Fleckvieh in North America. 808 is stout and full of muscle with very strong maternal characteristics. Even though 808 is light in color he is diluter free. We are retaining a full sister.

F809 ET - Diluter. 809 is another 20 year old plus embryo. His dam Great Guns Anja is the daughter of Romulus and Great Guns Adria 99S, a full sister to C&B Western 2nd, which is noted for performance, carcass strength and maternal calving ease. Sired by Faust, which is an old proven sire noted for lower birth weights, maternal calving ease and excellent marbling. 809 has that extra length with muscle and performance. Not recommend for angus cows as there is a possibility of grey calves.

This year we are bringing you a group of Polled bulls bred by Jerry Robinson from Louisiana. Jerry has been a longtime friend and Fleckvieh breeder specializing in polled Fleckviehs for 10 years and has built his program around two top polled bulls, Outlaw and Stein, along with strong cow families. Jerry runs a very practical breeding program and focuses on the basic traits important to the commercial man. This group of bulls are polled or scurred. No dehorning has been done. Some are double bred polled. This group arrived October 10th and have had the same vaccinations as our bulls. Prior to their arrival they had a very hot summer which affected some of their early performance. They have acclimated to our weather very well with zero sickness through our odd fall weather. They have been on the same diets as our bulls with ADG average 4.3lbs. Please feel free to call Jerry at 504-723-9305 with any questions on pedigrees or ancestral questions.
