Below is the complete transliteration and translation of what we Muslims utter in salah, the prayers. Hope it will help all

especially the reverts and those interested to know about Islam.

Takbir: At the beginning of prayers and on almost every change of posture

Allahu Akbar

Allah is Great!

THANAA: (While standing in first rakaa only):

Subhanaka Allahumma Wa Bi Hamdika Wata Baaraka-smuka Wa Taala Jadduka Wa La ilaha Ghairuk

O Allah! All glory is due to You, I praise You, Your name is the Most Blessed, Your Majesty is highly exalted and there is

none worthy of worship You.

TAAWUZ: Seeking Allahs refuge from Satan before reciting Quran

Aouzu Billahee Min ash-Shaitaan ar-Rajeem

I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed devil.

TASMIYAH: Invoking Allahs name before reciting Quran

Bimillahi ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem

Allah, in whose name I begin, the Most Affectionate, the Most Merciful.

SURAH FATEHA: Opening Chapter of the Quran that must be read in prayers

Alhamdu Lillahi Rabbil Aalameen Ar Rahamaanir Raheem Maaliki Yaomid Deen iyyaaka Nabudu Wa iyyaaka Nastaeen.

Ihdina as-Siraat al-Mustaqeem Siraat al-Lazeena An-Amta Alaihim Ghairil Maghdhoobi Alaihim Walaa adh-Dhaalleen

All praise is due to Allah, the Sovereign Lord of all the universes. The Most Affectionate, the Most Merciful. The Owner of

the Day of Retribution. O Allah! You alone do we worship and You alone do we beseech for help. Guide us to the straight

path. The path of those whom You have Favoured. Not of those who earned Your wrath and nor of those who went astray.

SURAH IKHLAAS: A brief chapter of the Quran giving basic Islamic belief about Allah. One can read any portion of the

Quran in its stead.

Qul Huwal-Laahu Ahad. Allaa-hus Samad Lam Yalid Walam Yoolad Walam Yakul Lahoo Kufuwan Ahad.

Say, He is Allah, the One. Allah is All Independent. Neither He begot anyone nor He was begotten. And none is equal to Him

in any way.

RUKOO:Tasbih (i.e. Glorification of Allah) while bending

Subhaana Rabbi al-Azeem

Glory be to my Nourisher, the Most Great

TASMEE: After raising ones head afterRuku (the bending)

Sami Allahu Li-man Hamidah

Allah listens to him who praises Him.

TAHMEED: Adoration of the Almighty while standing straight afterRuku (the bending)

Rabbana Lakal Hamd

O our Sustainer! All praise is due to You alone.

SAJDAH: Tasbih (i.e. Glorifying Allah) during prostration.

Subhaana Rabbi al-Alaa

Glory be to my Nourisher, the Most High.

TASHAH-HUD:Making Testimonies while sitting in the second and fourth rakaa (third inMaghrib and Witrtoo)

Attahiyyatu Lillahi Wassalawatu Wat Tayyibaatu Assalamu Alaika Ayyuhan Nabiyyu Wa Rehmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Assalamu Alaina Wa Alaa Ibadillahis Saalaiheen. Ash-hadu An-Laa ilaaha illa-Allahu Wa Ash-hadu Anna Muhammadan

Abduhu Wa Rasuluh

O Allah! You alone deserve all veneration, worship and glory. OProphet! Peace be on you and the mercy of Allah and His

blessings. Peace be upon us and on virtuous servants of Allah. I bear witness that none is worthy of worship save Allah and I

bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His chosen servant and His Messenger.

DUROOD: Salutations on the Prophet

Allah Humma Salle Alaa Muhammadiyon Wa Ala Aale Muhammadin Kama Sallaita Aala Ibraheema Wa Alaa Aale

Ibraheema Innaka Hameedum Majeed. Allah Humma Baarik Alaa Muhammadiyon Wa Ala Aale Muhammadin Kama

Barakta Alaa Ibraheema Wa ala Aale Ibraheema Innaka Hameedum Majeed.

O Allah! Send blessings on our master Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad as You did send on our master Ibrahim

and the progeny of Ibrahim. You are, indeed, Praised, Glorified. O Allah! Bless our master Muhammad and the progeny ofMuhammad as You did bless our master Ibrahim and his progeny. Undoubtedly, You are Praised, Glorified.

DUAA: Supplication towards the end of prayers

Allaa-humma Innee Zalamtu Nafsee Zulman Kaseeran wa Innahu Laa Yaghfiruz-Zunooba Illaa Anta Faghfirlee

Maghfiratam Min Indika Warhamnee Innaka Antal Ghafoorur Raheem.

O Allah! I have oppressed my soul and undoubtedly there is no forgiver of sins but You alone. O Allah! Forgive me and

have mercy on me. Undoubtedly, You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

Indeed Allah knows the best!

Could you please write a continuation to this article, where you include the tasbih-part, because there are also

something you recite before the starting of tasbih. You can just write it as a comment to my reply would be a great

help.

Im so confused. I said Shahada and desperately want to pray. However, I dont understand what im reading. I just

want to know the transliteration and translation of the 5 prayers and hopefully pictures of the positions for each. Every

article I read has some arabic words in the explainations that i dont understand. Please help as I wanted to do this by

the time i have to fast. I cant find any books at the library either.
