St Maximillian Kolbe was born in Poland in a
small town called Zdunska Wola. When he was 12, he saw
Mary in a vision holding 2 crowns, one was white
representing purity and the other was red for martyrdom.
When Mary asked Maximillian to choose between the two
destines, he told Mary he wanted both. After his encounter
with Mary, he became a Franciscan. Later, he founded the
Immaculata Movement devoted to Mary and helped the
friers publish pamphlets, books, newspapers, and magazines about their views on religion
and Mother Mary. Maximillian also created the immaculate prayer and went for missions
around the world including Japan where he founded a monastery. When Maximilian
returned to Poland he was imprisoned by the Nazis. While in the camp ten men were chosen
to die because a prisoner escaped, and it was a form of punishment. Maximilian offered
himself in place for a young husband and father. He was the last of ten to die after
enduring two weeks of starvation, thirst, and neglect. However, through the pain and
suffering he experienced, he offered it up to Mary and prayed every day. The guards that
watched him said he never complained and always looked cheerful when praying and talking
to God. Maximilian died August 14th, which is also the vigil of the Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. St Maximillian Kolbe devoted his life for Mary and teaches us to
always sacrifice and help others when they need it most.

Mary - our heavenly Mom
How come we can name the Mother of God our Mom? Do we have the right to do this? Are we entitled to do this? Mary was so amazing, that she agreed to be Mother of Jesus, but what about us? Are we Mary’s kids too?
Yes, truly we are, because it is God’s holy will. When Jesus was hanging on the cross He looked down and saw His mother, Mary, standing with His Disciple John. Although Jesus was suffering so much for us and every move was very painful already He rose His head and said to His mother “Here is your son”. And to John He said “Here is your mother “. We were not standing under Jesus' cross, but Disciple John was there instead of everyone of us. At this time God gave us Mary to be our Mom. Why is Mother Mary so important? She is always leading us throughout the best and shortest way to Her son Jesus Christ. Mary has so many attributes, as we sing in the Loreto Litany but in the centre of the prayer is always Her Son- Jesus.
How can we ever express our gratitude to God for giving us His Mom to be our Mother too?
We can join Mary devotions during the month of Mai to thank Mary for being our heavenly Mother.
Month of May was devoted to the Virgin Mary from the early Middle Ages in Europe. We can find poetry written by the Spanish King Alfons the Tenth (+1284) where he is praising Mai for being blessed for having Mary as a patron.
The tradition of organizing these services is quite common in Europe. In Poland May devotions started in the second half of the 19th century .
We are praying in front of the Most Blessed Sacrament by singing The Loreto Litany, Hail Holy Queen, listening to the preaching and at the end the Most blessed sacrament is getting hidden. We are singing a song about Mother Mary. Mai devotions may take place in church or outside in front of the chapel devoted to Our Lady. It can be the best memory for the whole life, when the children will attend Mass and then May devotion in their first week after their First Communion.
The white colour of the costumes and purity of kids’ hearts attending Mai devotion is something unforgettable. Asia.
