St. Francis & St. Clare of Assisi Parish 2020 Calendars available at the back of the Church. Parish Council Leaders of St. There-sa’s, St. Patrick’s, St. Catherine’s and St. Moth-er Teresa of Kolkata are pleased to present a beautiful calendar for 2020 that contains pic-tures of each of the four churches. This was a wonderful shared project that helped the four churches comes together and work on a com-mon project that would benefit everyone. A big thank you to students from NSCC who de-signed and copied the calendars as a part of a class project. Special thanks to Adora Fernan-do, a student at Citadel High and parishioner of St. Theresa’s, who came to our church and took the beautiful photographs. Calendars are at the back of the church and are $10 each. The calendars would make a wonderful Christ-mas gift and support our community of St. Mother Teresa of Kolkata.
The Parish office will be closed from December 24 and will reopen on January 2 to normal hours.
Parish Envelopes for the next few months please print your name and address on the 2020 envelopes. Thank you.
Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph, De-cember 29th this year. Devotion to the Holy Family flourished in the Renaissance. The leading artists of the time Michelangelo, Raph-ael, El Greco, Rembrandt, Rubens, to name a few—often portrayed the Holy Family in their work. When this feast day was instituted in 1921, it was originally assigned to the third Sunday after Christmas. It is now observed on the first Sunday following Christmas, unless Christmas itself falls on a Sunday, in which case Holy Family is celebrated on Dec. 30.
Church Trivia: Holy Days of Obligation One of the things that makes the Roman Catholic Church distinct from other Christian denomi-nations is that we have days throughout the year– in addition to Sundays– when we’re obligat-ed to attend Mass. Holy days are important feast days in the life of the Catholic community on which, in addition to Sundays, Catholics (who are above the age of reason and who are not sick) are obligated to participate in Mass according to the precepts of the Church. They cele-brate an important mystery of the Catholic faith. In Canada we have 2 and they are: Decem-ber 25th, Christmas and January 1st, Mary, the Holy Mother of God.
Religious Education—Christmas is a time of sharing and love for all of us and a time to re-member all who have filled our lives. We would like to thank all of our Catechists for the love and dedication they share with our chil-dren here at Saint Mother Teresa and the pa-rishioners who continue to support us with their prayers and good will. We hope all have a blessed Christmas filled with friends, family and some fun and a bit of rest. May the New Year bring us all happiness good health and many more blessings.
