Dear Parishioners,
You know, most of the time, I actually do review and
rehearse my Sunday sermons/homilies. It’s only when I
don’t, that I realize, halfway through, that I made a big mistake. The
good news, though, is that, when I finally delivered last Sunday’s
meditation at Ss. Peter and Paul, I did get it right – pretty much.
Sometimes, ya got it, sometimes ya don’t. I regret handling the
Saturday 6PM Mass-goers and even the Sunday 8AM Mass-goers as,
well, guinea pigs. Please forgive me. I won’t make that mistake again.
Whew! OK, now let’s get on to less embarrassing matters. I’d like to
call your attention to our website where I had our web-master put up
two documents, one about insipient communism in the USA and the
other about the topic “du jour,” BLM or Black Lives Matter. You might
find them interesting. There’s very little material of my own, I pretty
much just took existing – and very public – documentation and put it on
the website for you.
You know, it’s amazing how much some people know and how little
some other people know. Remember “Pacha Mama” and the picture I
taped to the main door of the church? I happened to ask the opinion of a
parishioner on it who attends the Saturday 4:15 PM Mass and then,
subsequently, the opinion of a diocesan official on it. The official was
here on an inspection tour. I was quite taken aback when both of those
two people said that they’d never heard of Pacha Mama. Now, this is
not a moral judgment on those two individuals. So many in today’s
world are quite content leading ordinary, normal lives, not seeing the
need to look into this or that. This is especially true in the Church. But
this also shows that so many in the Church have absolutely no idea
what’s going on in the world. I believe that, if there’s any time that one
should bestir him-/her- self to investigate what’s happening out there, it
is most certainly now. Our very salvation, both as citizens of the US and
members of the Mystical Body of Christ may depend greatly on our
knowledge of current events. It could be that we may all be called upon
to defend our beautiful little church from vandals bent on destruction.
AND, we might be called upon to defend the bigger Church from
enemies both external and internal. Forewarned is forearmed, my
beloved children and friends, my parish family. God bless you.

Dressing for Church
Yes, it’s quite hot. Yes, it’s summer. Still, there is a certain amount
of decorum that should be observed when entering God’s House and
worshipping Him at Mass. These are not the times to sport your
favorite beach-wear, regardless of how cool and fashionable it is.
Nor should shorts and flip-flops rule the day. Our church is very
nicely air-conditioned so, it’s not too much to dress modestly and,
yes, tastefully, for God. Gents should make every effort to wear
dress slacks and, at least, a sport shirt. Ladies are always at their
most beautiful in a tasteful dress or skirt and blouse. Should ladies
choose slacks, remember looser is always more comfortable than
tighter. Think Betty White rather than Kim Kardashian.
